For me, it was my mobile phone and apps.

I felt like I couldn't get away from notifications, the beeping, bopping and hopping of my phone drove me mad.

Putting the clocks back in winter.

AnnunciataCoquetti · 18/06/2022 21:02

@balalake I love this idea. I wish everyone would (not) do it.

lightisnotwhite · 18/06/2022 21:03

I don’t have a mobile because I don’t want to spend an extra £10 a month for something I don’t need. I have an iPad that does email, apps and social media.

Fucked off that any banking/ credit cards require me to have one. Just use my sodding email. Even if you can get an app they need you to have a mobile number. So annoying and pointless.

AnnunciataCoquetti · 18/06/2022 21:04

@thelastshadowpuppet I have now giving up saying I have a mobile, as "mobile" now means "smartphone". I tried to collect a parcel using mine. The young man behind the counter tried to swipe it when I showed him the collection code. He was completely perplexed by the whole experience.

XenoBitch · 18/06/2022 21:05

Apps here too. I refuse to have every single aspect of my life in app form on my phone. I use my phone as a phone, a camera and as a way to look something up online without firing up a computer. I don't want or need a Tesco app, a Lidl app, banking, NHS, Costa, Whatsapp etc. It does not sit well with me to have so much information about yourself on one device that you could easily lose or have stolen.

Also, fit bit type gadgets. I see no end of health anxiety from a lot of people that use them.

bellamountain · 18/06/2022 21:05

Coffee shops everywhere. I love coffee but I think the shops are excessive now, we didn't used to have so many and it's pretty unhealthy when you factor in all the cakes and biscuits they sell.

@TheWayoftheLeaf it was everything not just notifications, passwords for this and that and just being contactable every minute of the day.

People thought I was bonkers when I said I didn't have a mobile. It was bliss.

You know you can just ignore your phone right?
You don't HAVE to pick it up if it rings, or reply to texts straightaway... you can even set different ringtones so you know who's calling!

ElenaSt · 18/06/2022 21:17

I refuse to use metric measurements and have steadfastly stuck with feet and inches etc!

PlanetNormal · 18/06/2022 21:20

Definitely social media.

I am not, and have never been, a user of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, MySpace, Snapchat or any similar social network. I have a Twitter account not linked to my real identity which I use to follow people connected to my interests, eg politics, sport, aviation, but I don’t tweet myself or have any followers. I do use anonymous forums, obviously, but again my accounts are not linked to my real identity.

BalloonsAndWhistles · 18/06/2022 21:21

I absolutely loathe people who use the phrase ‘Karen’. It seems to be used by fairly unintelligent people who can’t hold a discussion and prefer to use an insult when things aren’t going their way. I hate the way that everything is so PC all the time. You basically can’t call a spade a spade without being racist/transphobic/sexist/xenophobic or any other sort of phobic there is.

Momicrone · 18/06/2022 21:22

To be fair, banking apps are really useful, anything that saves you time is useful

Burgoo, each to their own, I just hope my kids don't do it

Is that a typo? Mr Google tells me you're hoping your kids don't do a type of stew...

Momicrone · 18/06/2022 21:34

Haha no burgoo is a posters name

thelastshadowpuppet · 18/06/2022 21:35

@ComputerQueen yep, I realise that but it didn't get rid of the problem.

Oh! Blush

In my defence, there had been several posts in the interim...

(I once started a discussion with S1 over what to do if his friends started sending him unsuitable photos. He said "mum, these are girls who won't take their jumpers off because the school blouse isn't opaque...")

ThisisMax · 18/06/2022 21:39

Being an employee of a boss that was stupid. Leaving instagram was brilliant too.

Crocsandshocks · 18/06/2022 21:40

That the school system is 5 days a week. Feels like the poor mutes spend most of their time there. I'd like to opt out by I work full time too. Humans have come so far but still spend most of our lives working. I'd like to go back in time ans live in a roundhouse!

Crocsandshocks · 18/06/2022 21:42

Land-line. I haven't bothered with one in my new house. I don't want someone ringing me at will and the ringtone filling tbe house. Feels intrusive!

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 18/06/2022 21:43

Social media.

Any kind of online help function. No thanks, I'll ring!

Eyebrow shaping. They are already shaped...like eyebrows.

declutteringmymind · 18/06/2022 21:43

The blurring of life between work and home. Emails pinging off everywhere, people thinking they can ask you a work question on WhatsApp on your day off.

Wish these could be scheduled.

Having to do other peoples jobs. - fill out your childrens vaccine forms to save them inputting the details themselves. Print your own boarding passes, take your X-ray disc to the dentist so they don't have to post it. Get your no claims cert from your previous insurers and hand it to the new one. Download an app and pay for parking online so no one has to empty a meter. All stuff that was done as part of a service previously.

Remember when your tickets were sent to you in the post and they had matching luggage tags?
Remember when you sat at the doctors and they asked to you the questions personally?

Whopbamboom · 18/06/2022 21:43

The lack of consistency with things like parking meters.
You'll go to one and it'll be card payment only.
Others, pay via their app only (and have to pay an extra 20p for the privilege)
Go to another and it's cash only, no card or app option.
Go to another and it's app only, except it's a different app to the first one.

If it's going to be app based with no other payment option, there should be one bloody app and we sure as shit shouldn't have to pay to use it.

FrancescaContini · 18/06/2022 21:43

Alexa - “Alexa, put the lights on” / “Alexa, is it going to rain today” WTAF???

All reality TV shows
Those slider shoes - unbelievably ugly
Insta etc
Needing an app for everything
Booking an airline ticket and wading through pages of: do you want to pay £3 for us to send you a text message to remind you of your flight number? Etc

Most hated: ordering food or drinks in a restaurant or pub via an app. I won’t eat or drink in those places
