Are the unions being unreasonable to reject 5% pay offer for nhs staff?

NHS staff in Scotland have been offered a 5% pay rise (excluding doctors and dentists who have a different pay scale)

Most health care worker unions have said its an insulting offer and should he rejected.

They are looking for a 6 - 14% patristic

Yabu - nhs staff have relatively secure jobs with good benefits and should be grateful they are getting any pay rise

Yanbu - nhs staff are extremely under paid and over worked and given the last 2 years absolutely deserve more than 5%

Looks like they are going for divide and conquer aswell with the offer a new spine for nurses away from other HCP!

I was wondering if this may happen!

Yolanda524 · 17/03/2023 07:37

i will be voting no and in addition to continuing strikes we all need to leave work on time and take our breaks and in addition to this refuse to take on any bank shifts.

jamimmi · 17/03/2023 19:01

Be interesting to see how a separate pay spine works in teams with AHPs and nurses doing the same job ( yes in advance practice that happens alot). I forsee alot of unrest and equal pay legal challenges. As an AHP its a no from me untill they match Scotland

justteanbiscuits · 17/03/2023 19:15

Can someone explain the good benefits to me? I keep hearing this..

TeenLifeMum · 17/03/2023 19:17

I’m sad it’ll drag on and I won’t benefit as I’m looking to move jobs to a different nhs arm and will probably lose out in any one off payment despite 9 years dedicated service.

I have been a nurse for many years and have just started with a new trust. I am constantly being asked to do overtime, despite already working FT. I don't want to do any, I cherish my days off, it is staff doing OT / bank that keeps the NHS afloat and of course in these times most of us need the extra cash. It also affects my 2 dc Uni funding so can't anyway and have explained this but they keep asking....it is incredibly guilt inducing!!

IfIhearmumagaintoday · 18/03/2023 12:27

@Fedupofdiets I absolutely agree. There's no mercy for the workers. I did an early shift and I said no to the OT as I had to get back home to my child...plus it was a Sunday. The audacity of the B6 was asking me how old my Son was. It's a shit show.

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 18/03/2023 12:42

Is it actually 5% or is it like the one in England, where it's 6% but not really because actually 4% of that is a bonus and we'll take it off you again next year?

Is it funded?

It's very easy to say "oh look at this pay offer" (and I agree 5% is low given current inflation) but a lot of the offers being given have catches to them as well!

Yes, my aph colleagues do the same work in the discharge team. If there is unfair pay between staff despite the same role, there will be people leaving

jamimmi · 21/03/2023 23:56

Exactly @bowzen I do the same role as my nursing colleagues. Infact I'm quite sure.alot of my patients don't realise we are nurse ,physio and OT backgrounds each with our.own special superpower but generally the same..My Nurse colleague has just resigned from.the RCN and moved to unison in part over this she told.us.today.

Inflation is running at over 10%, inflation on food is higher. So a 5% rise means a 5% cut in wages.

workers didn't cause this inflation. Putin's war (energy prices) and The Truss budget (mortgage prices) did.

so why should workers pay?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/03/2023 08:20

And the one off payment is subject to tax and national insurance, but won't count towards the pension.

Feefee9 · 22/03/2023 11:36

What do people think of the deal that's been accepted in Scotland? Top band 5 nurse will be on £37,664 in Scotland. Tbh I wish it was a little more. 39k or there about seems more reasonable to me. England and Wales should get same as Scotland imo also. I realise Scotland is a devolved nation but it's madness to have a difference of thousands between them.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/03/2023 12:54

Not everyone can just up sticks and move north, but if the salary difference is in the thousands there are plenty who will.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/03/2023 13:01

And I agree with £39k being about right. That would bring it up to where it should be after inflation since 2008. mobile.twitter.com/Heccles94/status/1637891922411790365?
