Why are you being so eggy?

AIBU to hate this term? Whenever I'm angry at something DH says this (eggy meaning on my period). He seems to think the only excuse for being angry or stressed is that I am on my period. It is so condescending.

Ew.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 14/06/2022 23:44

WTAF? I have PMDD and find that massively offensive. Have my first LTB.

ToastedWaffle · 14/06/2022 23:44

Thought this was going to be about farts or something.

What a grim thing to say.

YouCouldBeAnAirHostessInThe60s · 14/06/2022 23:45

Why…

PurpleButterflyWings · 14/06/2022 23:46

Don't you mean AGGY? (Like aggravated?) Never heard of EGGY.

That's what I thought!

scrivette · 14/06/2022 23:49

My friends and I used to say that about 30 years ago... I never realised what it meant. YANBU

NLondondiva · 14/06/2022 23:49

We used to say this when I was a teen…30+ years ago! But it had no relation to being on your period!! It just mean “aggy" as is aggressive.

Your DH sounds like he needs a basic lesson in menstrual biology apart from anything else!

In any case, yep, LTB.

ofwarren · 14/06/2022 23:50

Surely hes saying aggy, as in aggravated?

TheWayoftheLeaf · 14/06/2022 23:51

Surely it's aggy not eggy. Good god

NLondondiva · 14/06/2022 23:51

Cross-posted with the last 2 posters!

yes, it was probably short for aggravated rather than aggressive.

Certainly NOTHING to do with human eggs!

Doyoumind · 14/06/2022 23:51

Is it his hormones that make him act like a total dick?

FlissyPaps · 14/06/2022 23:53

I’d throw a tampon at him. Show him how eggy it makes you.

YouCouldBeAnAirHostessInThe60s · 14/06/2022 23:57

God to be fair I can be a total dick around that time of the month. I am fully aware of it. I try to reign it in but sometimes it just…slips out.

and yeah my husband will roll his eyes and put it down to my pre-menstrual self. Which I’m glad about because he could also just deduce that I’m an irrational, moody pain the arse.

But he can tell the difference between that and when I’m genuinely upset about something (mainly because he is fully aware when he’s in the wrong…)

RunNolaRun · 14/06/2022 23:59

'Eggy' is what we say in the West Country. Never thought of its origins.

RainBow725 · 15/06/2022 00:00

I think it may be a regional word for grumpy. Possibly south west England? I have heard it used by a friend but hadn't thought it in the hormonal context! Friend was female and used it for men and women.

ventreàterre · 15/06/2022 00:01

He's explained what it means? I'd come up with something disgusting related to his foul body to whip back at him. Or just tell him to stop unless he wants me to ignore him or find a better boyfriend.

twoandcooplease · 15/06/2022 00:02

One of you has it wrong

Either he's saying aggy (aggressive) and you think he's saying eggy which is weird and why would he be saying that? Or he's saying eggy and that makes no sense at all

DelurkingAJ · 15/06/2022 00:04

I haven’t heard that phrase for 25 years. It was slang when I was at Primary (in East Anglia) for being in a mood. Nothing to do with PMT as used for boys or girls.

Disneydatknee88 · 15/06/2022 00:07

No he really means eggy as in the egg has released itself. It is an old school derogatory term. I don't have to be on my period to be riled up by him. He is annoying and he prides himself on being annoying like he finds it funny to do it and then says I'm "eggy" when I react. I don't know if this is relevant but he is the youngest brother of sisters and he has never stopped being the little annoying brother!!!

OP posts:
thelittlefox · 15/06/2022 00:07

Used to say this at primary school, SE England. Everyone would shout "Eggy eggy eggy! Oi oi oi!"? when a scuffle kicked off in the playground. I can't see how it would be related to periods in that context?

(Honestly, it was a nice village school. Home counties)

YouCouldBeAnAirHostessInThe60s · 15/06/2022 00:19

Surely the fuck not

SusieSimpleman · 15/06/2022 00:20

DH uses the term 'eggy', to mean grumpy, aggravated (definitely says eggy not aggy though) . He's from S E England and I've always assumed it was a regional thing as never heared it said round here (Wales).

However it has no link to periods to my knowledge...he's said it to ds's in the past. And about a male TV character... 'ah 'es getting awl eggy now innit' 😂

I thought that until she said he's the annoying little brother, he needs to grow up more than being a bully. Sounds like he just wants a reaction 😐
