Accidentally created an account via a Google account pop-up.

Use this site to look up odds & ends.

Am I welcome as a dad or would this be inappropriate?

Lastly, welcome to jumanji, it's basically a jungle here.

What I don't understand is people who aren't parents using this site...

I find your comment a bit hurtful Lalo. I spend a couple of hours every single day on Mumsnet and have done for many years. I spend 99% of my time on AIBU, Relationships and occasionally on Baby Names. Mumsnet is an important part of my life. I don't have children. I find your comment a bit hurtful because this is my home too.

Perhaps they just want to be on a forum? Lots of aibu/other posts aren't related to parenting
And you just shot Howard, so I am v cross with you! 😄😄

OneTC · 13/06/2022 22:51

Just dont announce all your posts with 'man here', 'just a mans opinion' etc and you'll be fine.

just start a thread stating that instead Grin

@Lalosalamanca So only parents have disputes with their neighbours? Only parents can discuss their favourite television programmes or films? Only parents have fall outs with friends and family? Need I go on? I knew it wouldn't be long before some idiot came out with that crap, you're ridiculous!

I got the humour.

Op I don't give af, I could be a man, I might be a man but no one gives af. Just be a poster. If willy waving is your thing Reddit is that way --->

Yep, surprised they don't already know the answer unless it was asked with intention to derail the thread

I wouldn't say that on any of the infertility boards if I were you.

In any case, wtf has being a parent got to do with legal matters, elderly relatives with dementia, moving house, gardening, plumbing, keeping chickens, or any other of the innumerable other boards on here.

Oh, and welcome to @Dewix

Of course you are. However, lots of women hating on men on here. So beware!

Lots of men being rightly called on their shit.

It’s an anonymous forum on the internet and you’re calling it your home? What if MN got shut down tomorrow and never returned lol

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/06/2022 23:07

Why would it be inappropriate?
You’ll be fine. We don’t bite

DeanStockwelll · 13/06/2022 23:07

Welcome @Dewix as pp ( previous post/poster ) say try to avoid pointing out with your a man whenever you posted as it does tend to annoy some women for some reason ( I have never really understood why )

@Lalosalamanca , I don't have DCs , does that mean my opinion on pets , cooking , books , health, divorce, money, housing, decorating , camping , bereavement ( why I joined) doesn't matter ? I have posted on them and many more topics .

Besides I discovered mumsnet due to some posters and the infamous penis beaker, that was in the daily mail.

Anyone who admits to reading the daily fail needs shooting.

yaNbu: I'll stay

Yeah you're not new. But it's a parenting site anyroad.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/06/2022 23:19

It's an anonymous forum on the internet, anyone can join.🤷‍♀️ Even my teenage DS has an account. He didn't need to announce himself though.

HappypusSadpus · 13/06/2022 23:24

Research what mansplaining is and keyboard manspreading, then take a seat and get comfy.

Just don't be a dick 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can't you/they just go to digitalspy though?

I mean, the clue is in the website address. I wouldn't go and join a gasket/pistonheads forum without a car.

But maybe that's just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

FOJN · 13/06/2022 23:33

There are lots of dads on this site. Most of them don't feel the need to create a whole new thread to announce their manly presence though.

Well quite so I couldn't resist.😁

I'm a Dad on this site.

Its irritating in some circumstances because the poster seems to think its relevant when it isnt

Dont get me wrong i get it if someones having relationship issues and a poster wants to put forward a male point if view but 90% of the time its things like

Op: aibu to buy plastic pegs because they are prettier than wooden ones

Reply: man here, just so you know plastic is made from oil and therefore not environmentally friendly....

Unless you are pegging out your washing with your penis the fact that you are a man is entirely irrelevant to the conversation (although does tend to signal the type of male poster who expects it to add extra weight to their argument, the fact that they are a man)

Strokethefurrywall · 13/06/2022 23:37

Eh. I'm only here for the bun fights, although I started out on bereavement (no bun fights there, only supportive posters).

I'm a parent but don't give a shit about other peoples' opinions on parenting or anything relating to it, so I don't start threads.

DarkShade · 13/06/2022 23:39

Yeah, it's fine. Until you respond to a thread with "As a man,...." or "Man here, " then your account automatically gets banned. I don't make the rules.

What I don't understand is people who aren't parents using this site...

Because there's way more than parenting in this site.

Loads boards are nothing to do with being a parent

Lalosalamanca · 14/06/2022 07:07

@HappypusSadpus exactly! Not just you at all.

I guess for me the clue is in the title.... "mumsnet"

There may be various topics on here that aren't related to parenting but personally I wouldn't join if I wasn't a mum. I find it curious that despite this being a forum for parents, non parents still feel compelled to join. Perhaps these are the same people who post on black mumsnetters when they aren't black, for example. It baffles me but I suppose it can't be controlled given its an anonymous forum so all types of people join, even though it's not specifically aimed at them.
Guess it's very idealist of me to imagine using a forum aimed exclusively at mothers and actually used solely by mothers.
