Daughter wants to meet online boyfriend

My 16 year old daughter has been communicating with a 17 year old boy from Holland for about a year.
she now wants me to book them a hotel and take her there to meet him and then she wants me to leave.
I haven’t seen, spoken to him or his parents.
I don’t even know if this is legal.
I have refused on the grounds of her safety.

@Annatracey

You are not the worst mum, you are sensible!

I think the biggest risk is not trafficking or pedophilia, but that your DD arrives and finds she’s not physically attracted to him in person and then feels awkward leaving/under pressure to stay.

Ok. So about 15 years ago, I was chatting to a guy online for nearly a year. We finally agreed to meet up in Cambridge. He arrived and I literally shit myself. He looked nothing like his photographs - and even though I had chatted to him on a webcam, he looked totally different. He was witty and we had a really connection on line - in real life, my god, he was a total dick.

Luckily I was in my 20's and could drive. I'd met in a public place and felt fairly safe and able to get away. I was an adult.

No way on God's EARTH would I let my daughter go. I've been telling my kids this story since they were about 5 - it's been drummed into them!
