Elsa and Anna's parents were shockingly awful...

Any others?

You won't have enjoyed The Royle Family much, then

I recall the RF xmas special where it showed the poo stain pn Jim's pants got badly criticized by the media for being not funny and inappropriate and vulgar for Christmas day and I agreed. I'm no prude and sex etc on tv doesn't bother me but nobody needs to see that on a prime tv show. If I wanted that style of humour I'd watch Jackass.

The RF was funnier in its prime years when the humour was subtle and endearing but in the end like in the Xmas special they strayed too far from that and in the example I mentioned.

the difference is that a man can defend himself agains a woman if necessary

and when he does he gets attacked by society as you see in the video. I recall being at a college night out years ago. 2 of the group(male and female) got into a verbal row and girl starts crying. The rest of us didn't have a clue who was at fault or what was said but 1 of the gang (a male) goes straight over and punched the man without knowing the facts.

I was so angry by this as for all we knew she could have being at fault herself yet men love to play the knight in shining armor as if all women are harmless and vulnerable saints. The same knight in shining armor himself was a complete narcissist shit who used and abused people but wanted to take the moral high ground and put on a display of his 'chivalry' in front of his audience.

Well that was the issue, wasn't it? The girl didn't tell him to; by your account, all she did was cry.

I absolutely agree that it's unacceptable for a woman to hit a man. It's not ok just because he's stronger. Still, I'd be wary of assuming that all the resulting problems of this assumption are somehow women's fault.

I didn't say the girl asked him to, I put the blame on him here for just taking action and jumping in like the knight in shining armor he was trying to look like when it had bugger all to do with him. It's what society does and it pisses me off.

‘I dread reading scripts that have no women involved in their creation because inevitably I get to that part where the girl turns to the guy, and she says, "What do we do now?!" Do you know any woman in any crisis situation who has absolutely no idea what to do?’
Reese Witherspoon winning Woman of the Year award 2015
Its a good speech and relevant to this thread.

If you are a woman about to marry a good looking, wealthy, stable man with a great career, who loves you, you will abandon him for some layabout, good for nothing annoying bloke who has several kids.

I didn't see that episode (and am thankful for it), but I hated when the dad would say "I'm off for a Tom Tit".

Like you, I thought that was too much information.

SurfBox · 23/06/2022 21:46

Yep there is a line between humour and outright vulgarity.Vulgarity generally isn't funny.

That everyone in films and tv has the same mobile ringtone.

SurfBox · 25/06/2022 15:29

Also that women with the looks of Meg Ryan is unlucky in love or has bother finding a man in a city so has to become a stalker and travel across America looking for a man. If she has trouble finding a man what hope do the rest of us have?

adorablecat · 25/06/2022 18:48

What I learned from Dudley Moore's Arthur: if you are cute and winsome and happen to catch the eye of a very rich man, not only is shoplifting OK but it's also fine to bully and humiliate the store detective.

Coffeenoww · 28/06/2022 23:03

If you are fat you are there for comic value.
If you are less than a 10 in looks or a bit quirky looking you are the villan.
Nobody makes bodily noises unless it's for comic affect, no farting, sneezing, gurgling tummy, nose whistle.
Drinks are already chilled to go and you always have the "correct" type of glass to drink from.

CounsellorTroi · 29/06/2022 07:08

Wearing a pair of glasses is enough to make you unrecognisable to anyone. Or to hide the fact that you are in fact stunningly beautiful.

No one gets stuck in traffic unless it’s for comedic effect.

The female attractive star of the movie will usually have a less attractive friend she use as a counsel. Think Clueless, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry met Sally, What Lies Beneath...

CruCru · 30/06/2022 18:43

If you are a teen in high school, you will look well over 25. You will have great skin and a phenomenal wardrobe (I’m thinking of Dangerous Minds where some of the boys had designer stubble).

VimFuego101 · 30/06/2022 20:08

New Jurassic Park movie - don't share your toast with dinosaurs. It won't end well.

ClemenceD · 30/06/2022 20:15

And she's not even cute or winsome imho.

ClemenceD · 30/06/2022 20:19

If a parent/caregiver walks to the open door of a sleeping child's room, the bedclothes will always be off of the child so that the parent/caregiver can walk in and pull them up over the child to demonstrate to the audience that s/he loves the child.

YellowSticker · 30/06/2022 23:43

Everyone needs a ‘Nanny McPhee’
A ‘Mary Poppins’
A friend that can wobble her nose to create
miracles ‘Bewitched’
Even a Mrs Doubtfire.
I listen and watch PM’s question time and wonder if that’s a comedy film saying they will create miracles.

YellowSticker · 30/06/2022 23:53

Old films telling us we keep the doors unlocked. Never happened in my parents or grandparents time.

YellowSticker · 01/07/2022 00:06

Innocent enough message. Why do you ask the question?

GoodJanetBadJanet · 01/07/2022 01:48

Old films telling us we keep the doors unlocked. Never happened in my parents or grandparents time.
That depends on where you live, surely.
Definitely could leave unlocked when I was little!
Still could now, it's that kind of place

GoodJanetBadJanet · 01/07/2022 01:56

I have never woken up and put dh 's shirt on, why would I?
I have, his great big t-shirts are well comfy to slack around in

I hear people of my generation saying this-I am 36. They say shit like kids would never have had so little respect in our day etc....such bloody garbage. As if the 90s was some golden era.

In fairness alot of Americans can look much more adult at high school than UKs.
