Elsa and Anna's parents were shockingly awful...

Any others?

A sweet and nice woman can slap, punch or throw things. But it's fine because it's the other person (male or female) who is "the bad one

this is often the case though in reality in that society thinks any woman hitting a man is fine and he must be ''the bad one''.

CounsellorTroi · 20/06/2022 10:58

A woman slapping someone, even her own adult child, in the heat of the moment always seems to be seen as fine in soaps.

GettingStuffed · 20/06/2022 10:58

That the earth will be saved by a discredited scientist and/or shooting it with nuclear weapons. Any disaster movie.

SurfBox · 20/06/2022 10:59

Why not just report the flatmate dead but keep the money? The police would likely assume whoever murdered him also nicked the money. No need to hack up a dead body at all

He wasn't murdered though, it was either a suicide or od.

And secondly, the three were a doctor, accountant and journalist. The journalist might not have been raking it in, but the other two can’t have been so poor that however much money you can fit in a suitcase (probably <£100k, split three ways) would be worth risking your whole career for

I think it was more in the region of a million or so but I don't think it's a stretch they'd have committed the crime regardless of careers; they were still all renting so weren't as rich as you think. That and many high paid jobs such as accountants, celebrities etc have being done with tax evasion, robbing clients, fraud etc.

There was a time then where every top British celeb was being pulled before the courts for tax evasion remember from the Beckhams to Gary Barlow.

When it comes to greed the lengths people go to never surprises me.

meh soap logic is always laughable, you can knife somebody yet as long as they ''drop the charges'' or ''change their statement'' you will be fine and the police will just accept that.
So much of the law in soaps and film is highly inaccurate and it scares me how many people go around thinking ''you can't be charged with the same crime twice'' or ''divorce means 50/50 split assets every time'' because they saw it on tv scares me.

Oh and don't get me started on double jeopardy law, so highly misrepresented in that movie yet everybody thinks they know what it means.

SmudgeButt · 20/06/2022 11:47

any post apocalypse movie 50 years on, surviving on scraps and drinking recycled urine...but every woman has brand new bras and matching panties and full slap.

WalkingOnTheCracks · 20/06/2022 20:28

If you're trapped in a small space, or trekking across the Arctic, or navigating the Amazon in a canoe that you can't ever take to the shore, you will not at any point need to have a crap.

Exception to prove the rule; streaming series rather than film, but "All of Us Are Dead" covered this nicely. South Korean zombie series, decent watch. Could NOT understand why nobody made him toss the poo out of the window once done.

SurfBox · 20/06/2022 22:27

You the netflix show dealt with this too when the characters had to poo locked in the glass prison. There is the issue too that they can have no food, I have done long fasts, water only, and after a few days you don't need to poo. Having said that I think it's best to avoid poo, flatulence, pee and other bodily functions on tv and film really. Nothing worse than when I am eating and something like that pops up on the telly, it can put me right off.

JemimaPuddlegoose · 21/06/2022 05:24

One of my favourite childhood shows Sunset Beach (late 90s US soap opera) had a character who was kidnapped and handcuffed to a chair for months without apparently ever needing to use a toilet or shave.

That was probably the most plausible plot that programme ever had!

I remember Sunset Beach!

It was my guilty pleasure when I was supposed to be studying.

ellebelli · 21/06/2022 12:14

Didn't one of the characters use shaving foam(or perhaps it was squirty cream) to create a bikini!

JemimaPuddlegoose · 21/06/2022 19:23

Might start a Sunset Beach thread.

The whipped cream bikini and even the evil twin thing was pretty normal compared to the cursed jewels that turned people into mummies (as in Ancient Egypt, not mothers), cameos set in hell, and a mother and daughter shagging the same bloke, getting pregnant, faking pregnancies, and trying to nick each other's baby.

ClemenceD · 22/06/2022 02:44

There was an urban legend going around when I was a child that thieves hid under cars in car parks at night and when you went to open your car door the thief would reach out and cut your achilles tendons before grabbing your handbag and running off. I've never been able to walk up to a car without checking underneath it.

HandShoe · 22/06/2022 07:44

Oh yes I think the world according to Sunset Beach is worthy of a new thread - gotta love an evil twin story line!

The big huge catering tubs of ice cream.
Where the hell do they find it.
And how does it fit in their freezer.😂

I don't condone violence in either direction, but the difference is that a man can defend himself agains a woman if necessary.

They don't need to go in the freezer because heartbroken women eat them all in one sitting, straight out of the tub, while wearing pyjamas.

and it's this sort of attitude as to why dm against men is not taken seriously. A slap/punch across the face is sore whether from a child or a woman. Any adult that does it to another deserves it back regardless of size or strength.

SurfBox · 23/06/2022 10:22

yep and the woman are always skinny young Meg Ryan/Jennifer Aniston types who always seem to play characters who eat and drink etc yet have amazing bods.

You won't have enjoyed The Royle Family much, then. 😁
