To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?

The Depp/Heard trial was troubling to me.

On the one hand, people do sometimes make false allegations, especially after relationship breakups.

On the other hand, dragging someone to court for alleging domestic violence might deter some women from reporting it.

Assuming the court got it right and Depp was not a perpetrator, how could he have handled the situation so that it would not put domestic violence victims off coming forward for fear of being sued?

Me too. I don't think she's done herself any favours with the interview but I guess she needs the money. Johnny, her lawyers and the two charities and her appeal need paying.

The aftermath of the trial was always going to be difficult for Amber. She has an expensive lifestyle and going forward will need income for her own security. She was OK in aquaman but she’s not the best actress. I cannot see Depp letting her off the 8 million without conditions. But Ambers best source of income is the Depp saga. So not only, if Elaine is being honest can she not afford to pay Depp to pay him and support herself she needs to be in the public eye talking about Depp.

Tough tits, she will have to curb her expensive lifestyle and get a job like everyone else. I imagine Elaine is also expecting to be paid. I doubt she will starve and be left out on the streets.

I suppose we don't know what Johnny was doing with others at this time, this is just going to keep on happening, new revelations on both sides I should imagine.

I don't think the vast majority of people think that he has come out of this smelling like roses. Just that he smells a lot better now than he did before the court case.
A jury member said that they thought they were both abusive but that her assertions did not reach the threshold of finding against Depp. The fact that she lied over different things undermined her credibility with them all. However some jury members had some sympathy towards her which is why they found in her favour on one charge. They had to have a unanimous decision so I guess there was some horse trading for a decision they could all live with.

I’m assuming the elevator videos are after the TRO so technically still an affair but not in most peoples eyes. It only looks bad for me as a lot was made of Depps jealousy including these three elevator people. He probably was right to see that there was attraction. Cara was known about from josh Drew’s deposition that’s on line but this just confirms it. With Josh I think he implied late 2016. Amber has definitely lied, the photographs alone are a lie, I do think she has told some truths but she lost her own truths by exaggeration and misleading.

It's not timed stamped but A portion of Josh Drew’s deposition was cut where he was explaining Heard having many visitors including Cara Delivigne during the marriage, taken out due to hearsay.

Does it even matter? She cheated on him, he cheated on her. He hit her, she hit him. She lied, he lied. Her reputation is in tatters now, he's been vilified for 6 years.

She is displaying that you can commit perjury, defamation (continually) abuse, assault and then get paid and platformed. It's disgusting.

It wouldn’t of mattered at all if they both had walked away and got the help they both needed. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case and instead it became a battle of who could destroy the other using Metoo, the media, social media and ultimately the courts. That was down to Amber and the TRO and TMZ, it started a battle that has not been good for women, victims of domestic violence both past and future and ultimately not been good for Amber Heard or Johnny Depp. It matters a great deal. She wanted to remove power from the wealthy and she’s actually achieved the opposite.

I think it matters. People shouldn’t make allegations of a very serious nature that turn out to be lies regardless if the other person is far from a decent person in many areas of their life.

I too thought she may have exaggerated the incidents but there was possibly some truth to some of them. However, the more I read the more I question even this. Yesterday I read an article that included a video clip from her 2016 deposition about an incident which also included an audio recording of Heard and Depp discussing the incident shortly after and for this incident she outright lied. In her video deposition she said she was trying to escape from Depp and the room he was in whilst trying to close the door behind her. Yet the audio in which they are discussing the incident shortly after Depp says ‘I opened the bathroom door when you were knocking on it. After a few times I opened and you know, you just kept coming, you just kept going, you just kept going, kept going. I tried to close the door’.

Some on this thread who support Heard accuse those of us who from the evidence conclude she has made false allegations of severe physical abuse and sexual abuse as also claiming Depp is a saint. He clearly isn’t, some of his behaviour is grim, but the more details I read (I watched the trial too) the more examples of her poor credibility appear.

There is no time stamp apparently. We do know Depp cheated. The woman mentioned in the trial he cheated with was 22 when he was 49. I don’t think he is a physical or sexual abuser but I am unimpressed with an older man dating such young women. 22 is so young.

Maybe you don't hate her, but you post these things in outrage without any concern for their accuracy or fairness. You keep dunking on 'MSM' while citing supposedly independent sources that are anything but. It's not even that they don't fact check; they're actively engaged in a smear campaign.

Unlike mainstream journalism, they don't have to bother with things like ethics and facts and accountability. And people fall for it, with serious societal consequences.
