To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?

PetraBP · 09/06/2022 09:23

The Depp/Heard trial was troubling to me.

On the one hand, people do sometimes make false allegations, especially after relationship breakups.

On the other hand, dragging someone to court for alleging domestic violence might deter some women from reporting it.

Assuming the court got it right and Depp was not a perpetrator, how could he have handled the situation so that it would not put domestic violence victims off coming forward for fear of being sued?

Worrying all round.

To add to my comment above I realise the video I was referring to was not by That Umbrella Guy, one of whose videos Tiddlytidtwo posted today, but someone on YouTube with the moniker ‘Incredibly Average Guy’.

TiddyTidTwo · 14/06/2022 17:58

This is getting weird. The woman who is interviewing Amber is married to JD's PR guy (or one of them)

I expect she had multiple offers, why this one?

Make it make sense!?!

Friars23 · 14/06/2022 17:59

Sorry I posted before seeing your replies AspiringMatriarch and Tiddlytidtwo. Yes, the video was not by That Umbrella Guy.

Tiddlytidtwo, I have watched Emily D Baker, she’s good and being a lawyer sticks to the facts.

minou123 · 14/06/2022 18:07

I thought Amber's team bringing up ThatUmbrellaGuy was really silly.

Bearing in mind the jury could not look at SM or any media, it would have made zero sense to them.

Especially as Elaine kept changing the name to "umbrella man" " The Umbrella man" "The Umbrella guy".

I immediately looked up who this guy is, and it made sense what Amber's team were trying to say. But from the perspective of the jury, I would have been totally confused.

Aspiringmatriarch · 14/06/2022 18:17

TiddyTidTwo · 14/06/2022 17:54

Yes it is umbrella guy. The one Elaine mentioned in the trial!

Emily Baker is good though.

Can't stand her either. 😩

Yes that's the one, sorry! They're both awful though.

Yes, apparently her husband runs a PR firm that has offered consultancy advice to Johnny Depp’s team. I just view it as they are all people at the top of their tree in the US showbiz community and so not surprising if sometimes connections overlap and to be utterly transparent the Today show had Guthrie share her husband’s consultancy work with JD. I don’t know anything about US tv but presume AH’s team thought Guthrie and the Today show was a good fit for doing her ill advised interview.

Aspiringmatriarch

Do you mean that that umbrella guy is awful or his channel is?

This is a man that writes comics with his daughter.

Aspiringmatriarch · 14/06/2022 21:08

I don't know much about him personally. He's made hundreds of videos about Amber Heard though. People like that are just bottom feeders.

TiddyTidTwo · 14/06/2022 22:04

Thanks @Friars23 yeah I guess so with the overlap.

I tend to avoid the umbrella guy as it's too tabloidish and focus more on the lawyers on YouTube.

Law and lumber is good as well.

And yet if it wasn't for these "bottom feeders" we would just have had the MSM which has mainly supported Heard and we would only have had their bias in this.

@TiddyTidTwo, I am the same and focused on the lawyers on YouTube whilst following the case.

TiddyTidTwo · 14/06/2022 23:10

God, more interview clips being dropped out. It's not good.

One lawyer who was present in the court gallery taking notes and a big Depp supporter has now tweeted out to try and get Amber some help, genuinely, and it's gaining traction. Good.

I think this interview is tipping people to think, yes ok what she's done is awful but bloody hell! I'm thinking the same. The picture is getting bigger and bigger.

I was so angry with her but she's being thrown to the wolves now imo. Her PR guy is a shithead.

StormzyinaTCup · 14/06/2022 23:18

I believe that she has now been completely removed from Aquaman so that may explain the timing of the interview. I haven’t seen the interview yet but I would imagine she is angry about everything and venting. Not sure it’s a good idea.

Aspiringmatriarch · 14/06/2022 23:35

Maybe, but at least they should in theory have some journalistic ethics. Social media can be very corrosive and appeals to a mob mentality IMO. There's no reason 'we' wouldn't have had access to the information presented in the trial regardless of all the commentary telling us what to think about it.
And I think tbh the pro-Depp coverage probably seems more neutral to you if you support him. Not saying MSM doesn't have its biases but there's usually an attempt at being even-handed. I don't see that online at all, it's very tribal.

TiddyTidTwo · 14/06/2022 23:39

@StormzyinaTCup

She's doubling down and still telling lies, when she's been held liable already. Insulting the jury and the public. It's crazy! Shit, they haven't even put the whole thing out there yet.

I doubt Depp will sue again. He could though. Maybe a cease and desist type thing would work?

Prime example. The jury had the full audios, not just the bits played in the televised trial. The full audios are available online for anyone.

She knows this. The interviewer knows this too.

TiddyTidTwo · 15/06/2022 00:01

I guess one thing it's doing is educating people on what a narcissist is and how relentless they can be. Only those that have endured them in life, know. It's unbelievably horrible living with one.

But they are ill. It's a personality disorder. To be honest, I'm getting more angry with her enablers, than her now

To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?
Onthedunes · 15/06/2022 00:12

I suppose that's the thing with narcs, they give you no option.

Johnny is stating believe me or don't believe me.

Amber has the formidible task of making everyone believe her, she will not allow others to decide.

Her narrative must be the only one and the true one.

She is currently gaslighting on a global scale.

Onthedunes · 15/06/2022 00:16

I do know if these types do not get their own way or are called out on their lies, then the wrath and rage come.

They very rarely turn anger in on themselves, they direct outwards and I worry what she will be capable of if she is cornered further.

TiddyTidTwo · 15/06/2022 00:50

"I do know if these types do not get their own way or are called out on their lies, then the wrath and rage come.

That's why I'm angry I think. She is being pushed further and further. She has a very young child amongst all this.

Through my anger and my posts, I'll be honest, I wouldn't be in the same room as her. She scares me!

Onthedunes · 15/06/2022 01:09

I think her child will be fine.

If the rumours about who the father is, the child is Amber's insurance policy.

I do wonder in later years what rights her daughter will have concerning wanting to know who her father is.

Onthedunes · 15/06/2022 01:12

I should imagine there are some very nervous people who know Amber and will be hoping she doesn't take them down with her.

TiddyTidTwo · 15/06/2022 01:15

I hope so @Onthedunes

My DH is also a survivor from a NPD relationship. His daughter still has to endure her mother and has told me so much about growing up in that environment and how it's affecting her mental health to this day. It's horrific.

That's why it gets to me so much

Onthedunes · 15/06/2022 01:53

@TiddyTidTwo

I know it's craziness, arguing the right or wrong is pointless when a narc is involved, they have a completely different set of rules.

The rule is they must win at all costs.

I really understand why some are defending Amber, there are 'always' two sides to a story but many people will not have had experience of how calculating these types can be.

You would not believe what they are capable of.

I find Amber fascinating and also very triggering.
