I am coming up to 30 and really worried about this

Well, personally I can pinpoint it to exactly 7 months ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer…the combination of stress and chemo means I’m barely recognisable 😕 no idea if I’ll look like ‘me’ ever again.

Moonface123 · 08/06/2022 22:28

l am 53 and happy with the way l look and feel, it is insulting to all those who cruelly lost their lives young to be so shallow about ageing.
There is a lovely poem "Let me age" by Donna Ashworth,

Mid 40s for me, up until that point people used to regularly think I was 10 years younger than I was. Just tipping 50 now, peri-menopausal and that doesn't happen any more. I'm probably a couple of stone over what I should be which I don't think helps, and my face has definitely dropped a bit, no major wrinkles on my face but my marionette lines are much more pronounced than they used to be, my chin is less defined and so is my top lip. I am also getting the start of old lady neck. Gawd help me.

youkiddingme · 08/06/2022 22:37

By whose standards? Who says people in their 90s aren't beautiful? oh yeah, the companies that want your money.

Baggyeye · 08/06/2022 22:37

44 I'd say telltale ageing signs appeared -lines on forehead & tired looking eyes. I think I still look quite good until I go to the hairdresser & directly compare myself to a 30 year old in the mirror! It's the worst game of 'spot the difference'.

I think grief was the thing that made the difference for me. That & the stress of homeschooling plus working!

Eyesight is going at the same time so soon I won't be able to see how old I look through my new blurry vision!

Baggyeye · 08/06/2022 22:39

@TwoBigNoisyBoys wishing you a good recovery and I hope you will be back to feeling & looking radiant soon Flowers

JaninaDuszejko · 08/06/2022 22:40

My Mum is 76 and still hasn't 'faded' although obviously she looks older than she did at 60, 0, 40, or 30. When she went for her fourth Covid jab the nurse said 'are you sure you should be here?'

I think all women think that whatever age they personally are at is when looks fade but really we all age all the time but what we gain in experience is more important than what we lose.

Thejoyfulstar · 08/06/2022 22:41

I'm 39 and feel better than ever! I don't smoke, nor drink alcohol and try to eat healthily, drink lots of water, take my vitamins and exercise a little. Adult acne has finally cleared up , myteeth are whiter as I no longer smoke, my bone structure has sharpened as my face has lost a little fat and I just generally tend to scrub up quite easily.

Most crucially is that I am really, really happy. Life is really good. When I was younger I was, looking back, miserable, and treated my body like a bin. Now I have great respect and reverence for my body, my health, my life. Finally, but most importantly, I have an amazing Christian faith that brings me unbelievable spiritual satisfaction which I feel shines out of me without trying.

Focus on the inside and the outside will naturally follow!

My friend finished her year of treatment for breast cancer around 6 months ago and month by month she just started looking more and more like her old self, she’s looking and feeling truly good now 😊I wish the same for you

My neighbour had what you are going through, she is backed to her beautiful self and thriving. Get well soon.x

Delatron · 08/06/2022 22:45

@TwoBigNoisyBoys Sorry to hear you’re in the thick of the awful effects of treatment. I had breast cancer 10 years ago at 35. I thought I’d never look the same again, losing my hair and all the stress.

I feel as fit as I’ve ever done now at 46 and I’m happy with how I look. Hair grew back very quickly. You’ll get there.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/06/2022 22:47

When you're 50 your 20 year old look has gone and is replaced with something different which I rather like

This exactly. I developed a fondness for Edna Everidge type 50’s glasses. I kind of like the eccentricity.

TwoBigNoisyBoys Hope you are doing OK 💐

shivermetimbers77 · 08/06/2022 22:47

If you equate beauty with youth then yes it’s going to fade after the mid 20s or so.. but personally I have always thought older women were more beautiful than younger ones, even when I was young myself.

Missillusioned · 08/06/2022 22:48

Menopause. You've a while to go yet.

Testina · 08/06/2022 22:49

My looks literally faded at 45. On my birthday. I looked in the mirror and could barely make out my nose. Faded clean away.

🙄

Upsidedownagain · 08/06/2022 22:52

Ridiculous question. Depends on all sorts. I inherited my father's youthful looks so have always looked younger than my age. I have the same figure more or less that I had in my late teens (plumper round the middle than then, but still petite). I only started getting ansty about lines on my face and drier, more papery skin (on upper arms) in my mid 50s. Also dislike that my hair isn't as thick as it was, but it started off thick so it's not thin as such.

Many people look better in their 30s and 40s than their 20s, in my view. More character in their faces.

ThreeonaHill · 08/06/2022 22:54

I was out with a woman in her 60s tonight who is stunning to look at. Always so elegant and with an amazing smile.

I do think as you get older you get the face you deserve and positive kind people somehow become more attractive while the people who have always relied on their looks get less so.

Ropesdope · 08/06/2022 22:56

Around 43 for me. I always looked younger but don’t now. I very much look my age/older.

Caminante · 08/06/2022 22:59

I started to really notice it at about 53. Happened to coincide with all the lockdowns...I definitely feel that i aged a lot during that time.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 08/06/2022 23:00

@Baggyeye, @Darcy101, @Katya213, @Delatron, @FabFitFifties …you’ve all made me cry. Thank you so much for all your lovely words xxx

Bayleaf25 · 08/06/2022 23:02

Finding it fairly depressing to judge people by their looks. My friends are all of a similar age (older than you) and some of them look fabulous. I suppose it depends on what you think looks good (people at any age can look great or bloody awful- it’s a matter of opinion depending on what you think looks attractive).??

Craftycorvid · 08/06/2022 23:05

Well, I can honestly say that I’m more comfortable with how I look now I’m older. Sadly, my ‘youthful glow’ consisted of acne and being overweight and awkward. It took until my 40s to lose weight and get some confidence. In some ways, the early messages I got about myself have stuck around somewhat; in other ways I care a lot less!
