To HATE going to the hairdressers

Hairdyeoutofabox · 08/06/2022 11:10

Due to go this afternoon, feel like cancelling
Like the feeling after hair is done, but hate the process, mainly sitting in the chair and looking at my fat head in the mirror 🙈I just will them to get on with it, feel so self conscious!

Anyone else a weirdo like me?

It's an absolute chore. What's funny is that, having to stare at myself in the mirror, my face always starts off a bit grouchy and gets gradually happier! It must be the realisation and relief at approaching the end of the haircut.

Minster2012 · 08/06/2022 13:01

I hate going to the hairdressers cos it's so tedious

I have long thick frizzy hair so it takes 3 hours & yet I don't feel amazing when I come out so I sit there thinking what better things I could be doing with my 3 child free hours 😂
So boring

DreamCatcher08 · 08/06/2022 13:07

I love threads like this makes me feel ‘normal’ I’m not the only one 😂

I get myself in to a cycle of keep putting it off then boom 6 years later I have long thick split ends and I’m too embarrassed to go. I did put my big girl pants on and finally had it cut a weeks ago. Hated every second…will give it 7 years next time 😅

romany4 · 08/06/2022 13:08

I hate going. I have social anxiety and I always feel like it's an ordeal going..

Dalekjastninerels · 08/06/2022 13:08

Mine took hours ; in at midday out after three.

Albgo · 08/06/2022 13:11

I used to really hate it and still don't love it, but I've finally found a hairdresser I really get on with and actually enjoy chatting to her, so I focus on that now!

Sassifrass · 08/06/2022 13:14

@Irishfarmer. Good plan. She will think I’m weird of course but don’t suppose that matters. Actually, a dry cut would be good but I know hairdressers hate that.

Divebar2021 · 08/06/2022 13:16

Some of you must have some terrible hairdressers knocking about judging by these comments

Dalekjastninerels · 08/06/2022 13:17

Mine (I have two) are really good.

RaisinGhost · 08/06/2022 13:18

Yes, I'm the same. It's boring and awkward. It takes sooo long and half the time the style isn't what I asked for anyway. Last time the dye stained halfway down my forehead on one side, and she just went ahead and blow dried it, pretending she didn't see it. I will never go back ever again after that. I'd rather just do something simple myself at home.

Hdpsbfb · 08/06/2022 13:47

I haven't been to one in over 20 years. Don't feel you have to do anything you don't wish to.

AffIt · 08/06/2022 13:50

I often wish I could just drop my hair off, like a dog at the groomers, then pick it up a few hours later. Grin

ZigZagZen · 08/06/2022 13:56

Of course it's not rude to go on your phone. I think it's a bit unusual to sit there just looking at your face in the mirror the whole time. Go on your phone, read a magazine, people watch, chat to the hair dresser...whatever you feel most comfortable with.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 08/06/2022 14:00

I love it. I've been going to my hairdresser for years and she is so lovely.

Take comfort that even the most beautiful people don't look great in hairdressing salon mirrors!

Lily2075 · 08/06/2022 14:02

Yes, hate it. Hate making small talk, being asked what I'm doing at the weekend/where I'm going on holiday. Hate having to look at myself in the mirror for so long. Hate sitting for hours when I'm getting my colour done. Back aches and it's SO boring.

I wish I had a switch on my neck so I could just do my hair with it - longer twist to the right, shorter twist to the left. Press once to add colours etc Grin

SaltandPepper22 · 08/06/2022 14:16

Yep. Hate it too.

Not so much the looking at myself in the mirror but having my hair washed, all the faffing with various serums and sprays, being touched and adjusted, how long it
all takes…

Squills · 08/06/2022 14:33

If I could find a good hairdresser I would go but I can't so I cut my own.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/06/2022 14:41

My hairdresser does a quiet/silent morning twice a month. It's AMAZING and anyways books up so it's clearly popular

Foil removal so painful Sad

Dalekjastninerels · 08/06/2022 14:45

P.S

Very sensitive scalp so feels like they are pulling my hair.

Wilkolampshade · 08/06/2022 14:57

Haven't been since 1984, when I was 14/15. Never felt comfortable there.
I used to just shave the straggly bits on the back of my neck off (hmm, attractive 😂) but was an art student and it was kind of compulsory to look alternative. Later, bought clippers and have never looked back. These days DH whacks it up the back with them and I chop it around at the front if it starts annoying me.
So no, YANBU.

Bananarama21 · 08/06/2022 15:15

I detest the hairdryers for all the reasons pp mentioned I go to my dh cousins St her house or mine much easier and I feel more comfortable.

balalake · 08/06/2022 15:18

I don't like it but the alternative is worse.

RampantIvy · 08/06/2022 15:25

I am extremely short sighted so I can't see a clear image of myself in the mirror.

I don't understand why the hairdresser haters don't do more to mitigate the experience - take a book, tell the hairdresser you don't feel like chatting, wear a face mask if you can't bear to look at yourself, ask for a dry cut, get a mobile hairdresser to come to you, have a hairstyle that doesn't require a visit to the hairdresser etc.

I don't mind going. I don't love it or hate it. I'm in desperate need of a cut and colour now and will feel better afterwards. I have the sort of hair I can't cut myself, and I can't make a good job of colouring it either. I would rather have it professionally done.
