To think it's unfair to the royal children

Seeing their little faces all over the media, especially louis who is being made the subject of thousands of memes and being shared by loads of businesses - all because he was acting like a 4 year old?

His parents choose to be in the public eye, the children didn't. Making them sit through hours of boredom with the country gawping at them and judging them for their behaviour.

I can't help but think they're being exploited, and people have lost sight of what's in the children's best interests. Especially large corporations using louis to hawk their products and raise their own profile. He's just a little boy. If he was any non royal child it wouldn't be acceptable. Haven't they learnt anything from harry and william being damaged by growing up in the public eye?

@Roussette

Most people's lives are mapped put really aren't they?

The Royal kids are as free to step off the map as anyone.

They have more chance of going their own way than a kid in poverty.

keeprunningupthathill · 07/06/2022 20:49

I thought about my seven and nearly four year old after the pictures of Louis and thought there is no way I'd swap places. I imagine Kate worries about them, I'd be terrified about knowing my children would be exposed to the criticism of public and media from when they were little. I don't think any amount of money or privilege can make up for that.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/06/2022 21:07

YABU - we won’t see them again for months (possibly when Louis starts school?) - they can’t win though, if the wains had been kept away last weekend then there would be masses of people ‘complaining’ about that too.
They mostly all looked to have had a great time, I for one enjoyed seeing them, but I’m an old gimmer and remember the day William was born (I got my first car).

Of course it's better than being in poverty, but many people from humble beginnings have made it.
Their lives are mapped out and they have very little chance of 'going their own way'.
Harry is the only one I know. Who else in direct lineage to the Monarchy has?

Many people's lives aren't mapped out at all. I left school at 15 and made it in my own way. How are they free to 'step off the map'? No idea. The only ones who have done it are Duke of Windsor for marriage (and more) and Harry. These little kids' lives are decided, end of. `

Topgub · 07/06/2022 21:17

@Roussette

And how many kids get off the poverty map?

Very very few.

The royals choosing not to doesn't mean they couldn't.

Even if you believe their lives are mapped out, so what?

No different to anyone else

(And really it's only the oldest)

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/06/2022 21:19

Another good reason to abolish the monarchy then.

Talking about kids in poverty is a totally different issue. (#Johnsonout) but to say they could leave anytime is really not true. They are brought up to conform.

How many have done it? Only 2 in a century. It's hardly a go-to option is it? It creates a constitutional crisis. Those three kids have no choice whatsoever.

What do you mean 'no difference to anyone else?'
No one's life is mapped out until death. You can make your life choices and hopefully act on them. Have you ever watched 7up? That tells you all you need to know about the general public.

How you can say, they can just leave, I do not know. Look at the fallout from Harry.

Topgub · 07/06/2022 21:39

@Roussette

If no one's life is mapped out neither is there's

I dont even care if it is.

Oh poor them a life mapped out in complete luxury and wealth. Poor them.

Their mother could leave their cheating father and change the map 🤷‍♀️

I dont know what 7 up is but most people don't really ever change a huge amount from the social circumstances they're born into.

All stats back that up.

A child born into poverty will most likely stay in poverty

Their life is mapped out, poorer education, mw job. If they get one. SH.

Family. Repeat.

Middle classes also mapped out. Better education, better job. Better housing. Family. Repeat

Who cares if 3 wee very wealthy kids stay in their very wealthy lane?

stepuporshutup · 07/06/2022 21:43

Maybe their parents thought it would be nice to pay respect to their grandmother after all the years she has been on the throne. It is a historical time and to not have the dcs there for the memories would be odd. But if companies are taking the advantage that I do not agree with

Roussette · 07/06/2022 21:45

Really really not true. Here is a link. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_(film_series)

They are my age. Your life is not necessarily mapped out. I have followed every episode and know it from experience.

If no one's life is mapped out neither is there's

No idea how you can say that. But there you go. Let's agree to disagree.

Tania64 · 07/06/2022 21:46

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ..is this a joke?? Why don't you report William & Kate to social services for cruelty to their children??? Or better still use your time to help poor abused & starving children instead of putting your efforts into worrying about the pampered offspring of millionaires.

CthulhuInDisguise · 07/06/2022 21:47

It was a moment of history for the nation, but a family occasion for the Royals as well as a public one. It's the sort of thing they are for - the pageantry and spectacle - so I can't get concerned that the young family members were there to witness events that for any youngster will have been exciting to be involved in. Even if they got tired and a bit bored, it's better than them being at home with Nanny, wondering why they weren't allowed to be at Granny's party. And as others have said, they don't get exposed to much media stuff. And it's quite refreshing to see the personalities of the little ones while they are still going enough to not be media trained.

Nutellaspoon · 07/06/2022 21:47

No different from Instagram influencers using their DC to increase followers. The grandchildren are a huge part of the royal brand.

Topgub · 07/06/2022 21:48

Thar link is for a TV series about 14 people?

How on earth do you think that disproves all the stats about social immobility and wealth inequality?

(Which is getting much worse, not better?)

I can say it because it's true. Their life is as mapped out as anyone's.

FictionalCharacter · 07/06/2022 21:52

Louis isn’t going to be damaged by a few photos of him pulling faces.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/06/2022 21:54

Im sure George isn't complaining about getting the decent tickets to the England football games!

I'm also sure there is a Nanny standing by to remove the children if it becomes too much.

peachescariad · 07/06/2022 21:59

I'd much rather see the adorable royal children than some of the obscene tiktoks where parents think it's funny cos their very young brat has said 'fuck' or 'shit' ...ignorant parents raising even more ignorant kids...give me royal kids pulling funny kid faces any day

But they can't walk away just like that. Impossible for them.
As I said let's agree to disagree. Unless you'd watched the series I mentioned every 7 years for 56 years you wouldn't understand

Liorae · 07/06/2022 22:18

Topgub · 07/06/2022 18:17

I dont feel any sympathy for them

Their families could easily choose a different life

But I think they genuinely think they deserve all the wealth and adoration/deference

Fuck knows why

Not quite so easily when you consider the backlash Harry faced. Just imagine the hysterical outrage if William chose to do the same.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 07/06/2022 22:21

No more than Justin Trudeaus youngest a few years ago when taken on tour by his parents.
I think the RF are pretty clear that the future depends on them being likeable. The children will be part of that and as a one off for the jubilee it seems OK to me.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/06/2022 22:24

It’s a rare occasion though. They are going to have public lives so it would seem to make sense that they gradually get used to that. But the vast majority of their lives are lived in private as they should be at this age

No, no one should be exploiting Louis, but it will all be forgotten long before he’s old enough to have any awareness of it. I am sure if his parents had known he was going to get quite so excitable, he might not have be present for so much of it, but it’s a massive family moment and they probably didn’t want him to miss it. It all seems fine to me.

Diverseopinions · 07/06/2022 22:34

I think once you unpick the Royal code and practices, it starts to not make sense, but that is true of many of the institutions and traditions which we have. Christmas; the judiciary; parliament. Our whole constitution is founded on a mish mash of some precedent- based powers and some very modern ones which are based on an international protocol.

I think anything obviously harmful to the royal children would stop and be stopped.

vera99 · 07/06/2022 22:41

My heart bleeds. Normally Russell brand annoys the fuck out of me but he got this just right.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 07/06/2022 23:28

Nah, what gets up my nose when it comes to the royal kids & the jubilee (and other similar royal anniversary occasions) is the way they underline the line of succession by making sure we see HMQ, Charles, William and George together. It’s a big ol’ calculated ‘We Ain’t Going Nowhere’* message.

*Vive le republic

StoneofDestiny · 07/06/2022 23:48

Vive La republique indeed
