To be annoyed that DH eats his food as if he’s in a TV advert.

An El Paso advert.

All exaggerated movements. Eyebrows raised and eyes rolled. Fork pulled from mouth with a smack and with gusto.

I know he’s trying to show his appreciation.

But we’re not on TV.

Is it just for the first few mouthfuls or during the entirety?

I sometime catch myself doing a little jiggle when I'm eating something nice. Like a little dance. I have being trying to stop but I'm such a fat, greedy bastard.

Tothemoonandbackx · 05/06/2022 23:40

My ex MIL is the sweetest, but oh my God, I hated going round to have meals every week as she eats with her mouth open and makes lip smacking sounds, every now and then, her tongue would poke out before she took a bite!!!! Rage inducing. And my mum always makes a weird exhale through nose but chew sound at the same time, hard to explain, but irritating non the less.

iklboo · 05/06/2022 23:52

BIL3 sounds like Mr Snufflupagus snorting out a sump tank when he eats. We all rush not to sit near or - gods forbid - opposite him at family meals.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 05/06/2022 22:34

Oh eww. This would be a relationship deal breaker for me, and I'm not exaggerating or being funny. I really find it intolerable.

My ex MIL couldn't eat without moaning "mmmmm" into her first bite of food. Every time. There's something very gross about someone needing to communicate non-verbally that they're having a pleasurable sensory experience that I find, I don't know, overly intimate, I think? It makes me want to run.

This is worrying.

BrylcreamBeret · 06/06/2022 00:11

ARGHH yep. My lovely BIL makes small grunts like a guinea pig and holds slices of pizza in the air to pick off invisible flecks, eat the invisible flecks and then continue grunting. He also has long long nails which doesn't help 🤨🤔

Nuke him from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

😂 yup

Thethuthinang · 06/06/2022 03:27

My DH does sex this way. It's not something I enjoy.

Dalekjastninerels · 06/06/2022 03:31

Who are all these lip smacking, mouth open eaters?

I'm so happy not to have seen this in real life with an adult.

Seeing someone's chewed up food 😝

IDreamOfTheMoors · 06/06/2022 04:23

Give him that sharp, staccato “”STOP* it.” Then, tell him if he does it again you’ll eat in the other room. Then eat in the other room if he continues.
Do this every single time.

ImustLearn2Cook · 06/06/2022 05:47

This could be a new reality tv show: funniest performance eaters. Don’t LTB, FTB (film not fuck).

My mother in law does this, alongside appreciative "mmmmmmm" noises. Throughout the whole meal.

My SIL does this. In fact there is no point at which she isn't vocalising. I see her on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday and on those days I can't get away fast enough.

We went on holiday with them years ago and other people in the restaurant of the hotel moved their tables away from ours.

It's as if she is auditioning for a children's TV program. How DBro lives with it is a mystery.

I have another relative that eats like a man dying in the desert. I've had dogs with severe resource guarding issues with better table manners than him.

Sex learned from porn. I've encountered this once. Couldn't stop laughing.

crochetmonkey74 · 06/06/2022 06:39

This is grim. I also know someone who eats everything like they are in a movie but the type where they tilt their head to the side and take a massive bite of sandwich/burger leaving lots on their face, and then voraciously nod whilst chewing it too much.
Gives the air of Brad Pitt at a diner counter in a Tarantino film while he's actually at a Wetherspoons with real people who all look horrified but it never stops him.

WooNoodle · 06/06/2022 06:41

Make him eat in the bathroom by himself

StooOrangeyForCrows · 06/06/2022 06:42

This thread needs a trigger warning 😆😆

Gufo · 06/06/2022 06:49

I have a relative who has to make mini orgasm sounds as she eats. It's grim.

Inthesameboatatmo · 06/06/2022 06:54

This would put me off . What a twat.

anotherbrewplease · 06/06/2022 06:56

My dh always add salt and pepper like he’s a TV chef- with a flourish and from a height. I thought that was bad enough

I have a DH who pours water from the kettle into a cafetiere from a great height - thus slopping water all over the fecking countertop. Every.Single.Time.

Yes! Why do they do this? I can imagine a few times in a lifetime you might taste something so nice it makes you give an appreciation noise but some people do it over every meal. It cannot taste that good

PinkSyCo · 06/06/2022 07:06

Aww I think it’s cute. As long as he doesn’t do it all through the meal. If he gets orgasmic over every single mouthful that would be seriously weird.

I do that too,if someone else has cooked for me. I call it the happy food dance and it shows my appreciation Grin

I wouldn't do it in a group meal or restaurant though, and the orgasmic noises and lip smacking is a bit much.

Oh. 😄 DD does the "mmmmmm....yumyumyum..." noises when she's eating, but she's only six, so it's kind of cute and funny. Must make a note to knock it out of her before she gets much older. 😄

stuntbubbles · 06/06/2022 07:46

Ha, yes it’s cute when they’re little: 3yo DD was eating spaghetti yesterday with her eyes closed in appreciation of it. Adorable. Adults not so much.

Feeling grateful for a DP who merely eats like a hunchback bear, at least it’s not performative. Though he does cook with the 9,000 little bowls of ingredients and uses a chopping knife the size of a planet to do performance dicing.

cakewitch · 06/06/2022 07:53

Uuurgh... the lip-smacking, the low groaning, the breathing through food, the wet washing machine-like noises of saliva mixing with food. As I keep being told, it's because he's a 'mouth breather' and it's my problem not his.. funny how it all started over lockdown, when he didn't need to show manners while earing in public. No, DH, it's just a vile habit!!
