I thought the cameo by Her Majesty was fantastic! And yes, it was her - she loves stuff like this and from what I understand has a cracking sense of humour. She did the cameo for the Olympics... and did the one with Harry as well (I think it was for the Invictus Games?) - why wouldn't she do this? If anything it looked like she bloody loved it!
I'm not a Paddington fan (nothing against him, I just find the whole Paddington Bear story/concept generally very boring - never got into it even as a child - just not my thing) - but even at that, I was blown away by the intro with Paddington & the Queen! I don't care if you're into the Monarchy or not... I don't recall any other heads of state/presidents or whatever (never mind one that's 96 years old!) doing anything remotely as cool! The Olympics cameo was awesome - but she surpassed herself with this.
And as for tapping out the intro to We Will Rock You on a teacup... that is so far beyond cool - it's sub-zero! Just superb! And if the family didn't know about it and it was a surprise for them, then even better! How wonderful! I wish we got to see their faces when they saw it.
She may not be very mobile these days (I mean think about it - her walking up the steps at St Paul's... her climbing in and out of carriages... her climbing up the steps to the Royal box at the concert - plus she's 96 and probably gets very tired easily - so you can understand why she has not been present for much of it) - but that doesn't mean her wit, sense of humour and desire to embrace the event is diminished. I'm sure she very much wanted to be more involved. A little skit like this was a brilliant way to do something herself which surprised everyone and actually - stole the show! Good on Her Majesty! What a wonderful moment!
As for the concert itself, I thought it was actually really good! Not everything was my cup of tea but it seems to have been pitched so there was something for everyone - including artists that the royal family themselves enjoy. I thought Queen were epic (but they always are)... I thought the light show was utterly spectacular and I found myself feeling a real surge of pride. Finally - I'm actually really loving Sam Ryder! Hadn't ever heard of him before Eurovision - but what a lovely bloke - amazing singer, incredible performer and I love his positive energy.
