to be devastated re: hold baggage gone missing

It's my sister's wedding at the end of the month. She and our parents went back to Thailand to visit family and do a lot of wedding shopping. They've just flown back to the UK but their baggage has mostly not come with them. I am beyond devastated and don't know how to help. The baggage mostly consisted of traditional attire for the wedding (for the bride, groom, close family and friends who'd requested traditional outfits - all custom tailored) as well as other Thai decorations and items for the wedding. Things we can't buy here. Things that took a lot of time and effort to source and then tailored for each person.

Our luggage went missing on the way to our destination wedding, that was pretty stressful but the clothing doesn't really matter of you are marrying the right person. You should get it back.

Update: the first bag has been received. The second has been flown back to London by the airline shortly after the first but no sign or update re: delivery. We’re almost a week on and this is getting increasingly uncomfortable.

Great news. The other one will most likely turn up, try to look on the bright side!

calmlakes · 09/06/2022 15:06

Great update OP, I'm sure the second bag will get to you also as it has been located.

PlanetNormal · 09/06/2022 18:03

If they know where the bag is, it WILL get to you in the end.

Awakened22 · 10/06/2022 18:58

I feel your pain - it’s the not knowing that makes it tough. My bag didn’t turn up on a flight into Gatwick once…took 2 days for the tracer website to say it had been “located”, then radio silence until it turned up 5 days later on a Thursday evening. The courier tracing link I’d initially been sent was still saying they didn’t have it! When I looked at the luggage tags, it had missed my initial flight and put on one the following morning which would have been really nice to know. I’ve since got an AirTag to keep track of where my checked luggage is.

molka · 10/06/2022 20:13

The airline have supposedly handed it over to the courier service, Eagle Aviation, who are truly dreadful. The Google reviews rating is 1.7*. We are unable to contact them - it rings for 20 minutes before cutting off. They don’t reply to emails or call back when you fill their call back service. This is worse than knowing we can go to London to collect. The airlines do answer but have wiped their hands off it. It’s now day 7. The wedding is fast approaching.

Has the received suitcase got at least some of the important things? Fingers crossed the second will arrive very soon.

molka · 10/06/2022 22:22

@Latenightreader yes it had a few important bits so very glad to have what’s rightfully ours back but the majority of the traditional attire is in the missing case (which if returned after the wedding would defeat the point - the outfits for the bride/groom etc) things you could only use at your own wedding! The case that’s showed up does have some important bits but isn’t quite so wedding specific.

We are starting to lose hope now and trying to be realistic in the event that it wont be reunited with us in time.

Hope it turns up

molka · 16/06/2022 20:48

Update: It's day 7495 and the suitcase randomly pitched up!! Dsis was getting ready for work at 6.30am and saw a random white van man leave the case in their next door neighbours front garden!

Obviously delighted to be reunited with the wedding 9 days away! but my goodness has it all been dealt with appallingly! If anyone is ever in this position UKbound - please opt to collect your baggage from the airport! even if it is the other side of the country to you (as London is for us). The luggage repatriation company used by most airlines in I think most airports is "Eagle Aviation" - atrocious! You cannot telephone them (rings for 20+ mins at business rate then cuts out - so you're charged ~£20 each time you try). They don't reply to e-mails or their call back service. No wonder 1* on Google reviews.

Thats good news 😊

ilovesooty · 16/06/2022 21:25

I'm really pleased for you.

HandlebarLadyTash · 16/06/2022 21:43

Winner, great news

StEthelburgaRose · 16/06/2022 21:46

Yay! Glad you got it all back. Sounds stressful

Madcats · 16/06/2022 22:15

Yay!

One day you will all look back and laugh about it. Not yet, maybe in a decade?

I hope the big day goes well.

HaveringWavering · 16/06/2022 22:18

Brilliant news, but dumped in the neighbour’s front garden at 6am and charged £20 every time you call a line that doesn’t answer!? That’s appalling.

hopw you sister has a lovely wedding, that will be a story to tell on the day.

listsandbudgets · 16/06/2022 22:34

Don't panic OP it will probably turn up.

I went with my mum to Ecuador once to see my sister. Luggage got left in New York when we changed flight presumably. We were stick with no clean knickers in Quito and had to venimture to a street market where I bought huge bright red knickers. Four days later a tractor and trailer trundled up to a small mountain town carrying our bags.

DDs bag went missing a few years ago and apparently turned up in Hamburg which is odd since we went no where near the place ( Milan to Birmingham).. Sure enough a few days later a little van appeared on the driveway and the bag was ceremoniously returned

I'm sure your sisters stuff will make its way back too.

It is a horrible feeling though

listsandbudgets · 16/06/2022 22:36

Sorry just spotted your update.. Glad its home though the company sounds awful

listsandbudgets · 16/06/2022 22:39

PS Read that as Evil Aviation and thought that sounded very appropriate

calmlakes · 16/06/2022 23:05

Really glad it has turned up OP.
Enjoy the wedding.

Latenightreader · 17/06/2022 09:50

That’s fantastic news, what a relief!
