Exactly as it says in the title! My feet are extremely cracked on the soles and it's agony (yes I've tried EVERYTHING)..... I've seen superglue as a remedy on the Internet and wondered if anyone had actually tried it??..........

Superglue? FGS!! Will you learn from your experience with the corn knife and realise that home surgery is never a good idea.
My know it all BIL tried to fix a deep cut with superglue, it became infected and he ended up on an intravenous drip.

BruceAndNosh · 01/06/2022 08:47

Podiatrists who only want to see pretty feet are in the wrong profession.
I used to take my mum to see her foot guy and he looked positively gleeful when removing the hard bits off her feet.

If you are going to see a podiatrist, do it before using the flexitol as its easier for them to remove hard skin than layers of slightly softened hard skin.
If you can't face the foot guy, slather on high dose flexitol every night and wear socks over.

Honestly, even horse's hooves would be soft after a week of this stuff

Thanks to everyone! Seriously thank you! Needed to see it in writing how silly I'm being! I'm gonna put my big girl pants on and get booked in!.... Its affecting quality of life as its simply so bloody painful to walk! I'll keep you posted xx

Flexitol heel balm, night and morning and file every other day sorted by awful cracked heels.

TheBestSpoon · 01/06/2022 08:53

I'll back up PP and say the Boots own brand foot cream is fantastic. I'm so prone to cracked heels in the summer and this sorts them out super quickly.

maddy68 · 01/06/2022 08:53

You can use suoerglue. However you are best to file and heavily moisturise

Beautiful3 · 01/06/2022 08:57

Get a cheap washing up bowl and fill it halfway with sand. Put your feet in and rub sand all over them, and just move them around in the sand. I used to have badly cracked feet. I realised this only went away, after a beach holiday. I tried this and it actually worked, it leaves my feet smooth. Sand is more powerful than a file. Try it, it works.

I thought I recalled something about superglue originally being invented as wound sealant in war, so did a bit of research.

Whilst it wasn't originally invented for that purpose, Superglue was used in spray form in the Vietnam war to seal wounds. It did the job, but also often acted as a skin irritant. Apparently, they have now made less irritating formulas, and one pp is right that in some countries you can get "superglue" type products sold as Band Aid Liquid Bandage, Traumaseal and Dermabond. In the UK, Liquid Skin looks like a similar product, but I'd add that it gets a lot of quite negative reviews on Amazon.

So, yes, superglue probably works for some people but also risks being an unremoveable irritant, so don't use it.

Also get some socks like these

Soft Ventilate Gel Heel Socks Open Toe Socks for Dry Hard Cracked Skin Moisturizing Day Night Care Skin, 3 Pairs (Pink, Turquoise, Grey) amzn.eu/d/f60N9SZ

and wear them every night after putting on cream. They make such a difference.

As a nurse I absolutely love cleaning and dressing grotty wounds, the worse the better in my book. Loads of us are like this, and love starting to see them improving over time.

Podiatrists are no different!

Dunnoburt · 01/06/2022 09:04

Right, you've given me the push I needed..... Booked in for 5pm today for a consultation!

My DH uses superglue on his, he hadn't had any problems as a result but it hasn't solved the problem long-term

perimenofertility · 01/06/2022 09:13

Don’t superglue your feet!
I have O’Keefe’s foot cream, it works wonders of cracked skin. It’s was only a few pounds from Boots.

FOJN · 01/06/2022 09:15

I'm giving another shout for Flexitol. There is a heel balm and a foot cream, I use both, apply after a bath or shower and put socks on immediately. Do not over exfoliate your feet, little and often with a gentle abrasive is better than flaying the skin off your feet. Vaseline will not help at all because it cannot be absorbed into the skin to soften it, it simply helps to prevent moisture loss. Wear footwear which allows you to wear socks at all times until you get things under control. Make sure your shoes are comfortable so that your body doesn't decide you need thick skin on your heels to protect your feet. Its going to take a while to sort out but be consistent and you will get there.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 01/06/2022 09:16

As everyone else has said you need a cream with urea for dry feet.
BUT for immediate relief from the cracks/hacks you need blister plasters - they hold the hacks together so you don't get that tearing sensation every time you take a step & allow the hacks to heal from the inside to out.
(It was my Mum's podiatrist that gave this advice & it works wonders)

Onwards22 · 01/06/2022 09:28

Not sure if anyones recommended Footner socks off Amazon.

I’ve not tried them yet but apparently they’re amazing as they take all of the top layer of skin off your feet.

I don’t know if they should be used on yours if yours are sore though.

I’d also recommend if possible walking along a beach barefoot as the combination of salt water and sand are amazing.

Meraas · 01/06/2022 09:32

Just googled cures for cracked feet and urea cream is the top suggestion.

How did you get to superglue without ever googling a remedy first? Bizarre.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 01/06/2022 09:32

Well done for getting booked in OP. Hope they sort you out and you feel better soon.
I remember seeing an article about gel socks - some good advice Here (hope the link worked).

TheChosenTwo · 01/06/2022 09:37

I have some flexitol in my drawer for days where my feet feel dry, it honestly has them looking and feeling soft the next morning.
glad you’re getting them looked at, it won’t be as terrible as you’re imagining!

Woolandwonder · 01/06/2022 09:38

I get cracks in the corners of my thumbs which are so painful. Sometimes I can sort it with cream and plasters but if not a tiny dot of superglue totally sorts it out!

AliMonkey · 01/06/2022 09:46

Flexitol is definitely good but may take longer to sort than suggested by some PP. or maybe it’s because I don’t wear socks overnight as I can’t sleep with hot feet.

Personally I’ve found O’Keefes no better than a standard moisturiser (and it has a habit of separating so the first squeeze is often just liquid).

Also interested to understand the comments about bare feet / sandals making it worse as (see above) I go barefoot at home and wear sandals outdoors for much of the year - is this because you lose more moisture than if wearing socks? Or is it because the temptation to pick at them is greater (or is that just me?!)

Mostess · 01/06/2022 09:54

Honestly, see a podiatrist and get advice. You can be perfectly sure they will have seen worse than yours. It's what they do.

Greyarea12 · 01/06/2022 09:59

Oh god, no. Imagine how painful that will be when it dries in and you try to get it off.. it will literally rip the skin from your feet. A really good foot cream morning and night. Maybe try some Foot masks aswell...you can get them from bodycare/superdrug/boots.

axolotlfloof · 01/06/2022 10:02

I bought Liquid Protection, on amazon for cracks on my hands, which kept getting wet and sore.
I think it's basically superglue.
It worked really well.

To use superglue on cracked feet.....
MissMaple82 · 01/06/2022 10:02

Dunnoburt · 01/06/2022 08:18

Thanks! I've been filing everyday and literally slathering my feet in vaseline and covering with socks overnight (which is helping a bit), didnt know about the urea - very useful, thanks so much! (obviously thought superglue was a bit crazy that's why i posted first! Lol)

No wonder your not getting anywhere. Vaseline is a barrier cream. Soak/file/proper foot cream for cracked heals. Even a luxury pedicure with mask will benefit massively
