"AIBU that my husband is drunk again?" does not make sense

nor does

"AIBU that my MIL ate my hamster"

etc etc etc

you have to put "AIBU to be or do something

I wholeheartedly agree and I also tut and roll my eyes!

FrannyandZooey · 13/01/2008 10:09

ROFL This has been annoying me for months, but I thought it too pedantic even for Mumsnet to bring it up

Blossomhill · 13/01/2008 10:13

I never think that deeply about things tbh

colditz · 13/01/2008 10:15

"Am I being unreasonable my hubby puts a cosytoes on the buggy that doesn't match."

SheikYerbouti · 13/01/2008 10:16

It annoys me too.

I am pedantic about this sort of stuff, even though I type liek an ape on pills.

I am a pedant for a living, it's unbelievable how much of this sort of stuff goes into real, printed publications.

pointydog · 13/01/2008 10:17

franny, you need another topic of your own for this question called

Am I Being Unbearable

Yes

FrannyandZooey · 13/01/2008 10:18

LOL pointy

oh dear

OP posts:
TrinityRhinosDhWonHerAnIPOD · 13/01/2008 10:20

this annoys the hell out of me too lol

foofi · 13/01/2008 10:24

Franny, I personally prefer not to the use the infinitive, eg 'AIBU doing this' instead of 'AIBU to do this' as you recommend.

pointydog · 13/01/2008 10:25

get thee to pedants' corner

JackieNo · 13/01/2008 10:33

Annoys me too. Glad it's not just me.

WanderingTrolley · 13/01/2008 10:41

I tut crossly at that too. In fact, I think we need a [tut]

And ooooh! SheikYerbouti, you're a pedant for a living? My dream job!

Colditz - I didn't think anything was too pedantic for mn.

Sometimes I read AIBU as 'Am I Blardy Unhinged?'

ScottishMummy · 13/01/2008 10:51

ladies no more Tutting please - its too loud, a growing crescendo of tutting, humphing and eye rolling

and besides AIBU is the funniest most hilarious read on MN....

AIBU innit rotten someone used me mooncup
AIBU DH fancies me nan
AIBU spitting in the street
AIBU kids eat Burger King daily

WanderingTrolley · 13/01/2008 10:55

If I tut, harrumph and eye-roll all at once, could someone please call an ambulance - I fear pedantry would be the least of my problems.
