To wear long sleeves to my brother’s wedding?

I’m plus size. Size 22 so the dress is from Simply Be.

He’s getting married in the autumn.

Does the dress look ok for a wedding?

With the rich purple I would keep the jewellery simple and understated - personally I like silver with purple so perhaps a collar-type necklace, tennis bracelet and simple hoop earrings.

erinaceus · 28/05/2022 19:30

Beautiful and very autumnal.

SparkyBlue · 28/05/2022 19:34

Lovely dress OP perfect for an autumn wedding. It can be easily made look very dressy with accessories but at the same time you will get great wear out of it next winter as not too dressy to wear for less formal events. It won't get left sitting in your wardrobe unworn

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/05/2022 19:55

Lovely dress, but don't just wear the long sleeves wear the whole dress, otherwise you may be a distraction in the church...

ScurryfungeMaster · 28/05/2022 19:58

I love it!! I think it would be perfect for an autumn wedding.

PinkiOcelot · 28/05/2022 19:10

I thought the opposite. The dress OP put up is much nicer than the link to the second one.

OP it’s a lovely dress. You’ll look lovely.

I agree with PinkiOcelot, plus the SimplyBe one is more forgiving

BertieQueen · 28/05/2022 20:02

Lovely dress. Prefer the one you picked to another one someone linked.

As for being too informal as some have said, I wore skinny trousers and a blouse to to my sisters wedding. It’s what ever you feel comfortable in that’s important.

hope you have a great time.

Don't think there's any issue with wearing long sleeves at all! But...(and I'm CLEARLY in the minority here) I don't think that's a very nice dress. I don't think it looks like it would be at all flattering. The dress @Shoxfordian linked to looks much nicer to me

That will be a nightmare if OP is booby with the buttons and high neck and it's quite fitted of op carries more on her waist.

Your dress is lovely @Clementinetree I just wish it were cheaper!

Blowyourowntrumpet · 28/05/2022 20:07

It's lovely. I hope you have a great time

It's all a matter of opinion isn't it.

i think on the right person (ie definitely not me) the dress in the OP could look nice, but I think the dress you & shoxfordian are suggesting is horrible & less suitable for a wedding!

both would trail the floor, be too clingy and look. Gid awful on me!

@Clementinetree what's the problem with long sleeves to a wedding??

buy the dress, if it looks good on you then it'll be perfectly fine for a wedding!

Ilovedthe70s · 28/05/2022 20:23

Dress is fine for a wedding, much too flouncy for a short arse like me but nice if you are over 5ft.

I really want to know about the long sleeve thing though.

whynotwhatknot · 28/05/2022 20:25

im interested in the long sleeve thing

im going to a reigstry wedding in a couple of months all very casual and small but im still worried about what to wear

Clementinetree · 28/05/2022 20:26

I just didn’t think I’d ever seen anyone in long sleeves at a wedding. That’s all. Was worried it might look odd.

I’m 5’7 so hoping it’ll be ok on me length wise.

Agree that the dress Shoxfordian linked is just the worst. Dress in the OP very nice and definitely dressy enough for a wedding.

VaccineSticker · 28/05/2022 20:27

Nice dress but too casual.
btw, there’s nothing wrong with wearing long sleeves to a wedding x

Clementinetree · 28/05/2022 20:34

I hope it’s not too casual, I’ve bought it now. Did manage to find a discount voucher online so got £18.00 off original price.
I thought if I wore some nice shoes and jewellery with it, it would look dressy enough.

My brother (the groom) is wearing a tweed look suit I think.

It:s a lovely dress.

Carpedimum · 28/05/2022 20:46

It’s a lovely dress @Clementinetree beautiful colour. I think you can dress it up with accessories for a wedding, and then afterwards it would look great dressed down too.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 28/05/2022 20:48

I've never heard it's not the done thing to wear long sleeves at a wedding!
I think it's perfect for a wedding.

Clementinetree · 28/05/2022 21:51

Thanks for all the nice comments. I’m glad I’ve bought it now.

What colour shoes would go best? Sorry I’m pretty stuck trying to think of the right look to go with it.

What about these?

Pinkcadillac · 28/05/2022 23:04

Re. shoes, I'd go for nude (a gold tone, rather than grey) or a pale pink.

FlissyPaps · 28/05/2022 23:04

Jewellery - Keep it simple. I’d sway more towards silver/white gold. What do you normally wear for occasions? I wouldn’t splash out on new jewellery just a for a wedding.

Shoes - Either black or silver court shoes/block heels.

Whatever bag colour you choose - match it with the shoes!

Carpedimum · 28/05/2022 23:13

Shoes: there’s actually a few colours that work well with this colour, what colour is your hair and skin tone? Navy, forest green, gold/beige, you could even match the same colour for a full colour block which can look super classy. Have a look at Ruby Shoo, also Zara have some in that could be the exact shade of purple.
