15 shirts a week

DS2 starts big school in September, meaning there will be 15 shirts in the laundry each week. DH 5, DS1 5, DS2 5.
no issue washing and drying them but it will be a cold day in hell before I stand ironing their shirts. I don't use a tumbledryer so they all definitely need ironing.

Option 1 - make them iron their own.
Option 2 - drycleaners

Curious to know what others do

Nothing to do with ironing, but.....

Am I the only one wondering how someone works 18 hours a day, continually, in a job that is clearly outside the home (if he needs a formal, ironed shirt).
Add in even a short commute, a little bit of time to go to the toilet, to shower, dry oneself and get dressed, and eat before work and then after work, (even if placed on the table and no contribution to preparing those meals) and just wind down a little / digest your food and it can't leave you with more than 4 hours sleep per day. Confused
Yes, one thing to pull off as a 'one off', but you can't live like that, surely ?

Some people do 8-10 hours in the field, home, eat, start work again

Feeling sad for all the 11 year olds out there doing their own laundry, I didn't know it was a thing until I read it on here.

And it's so obvious at school which kids don't have their uniforms cared for properly at home, grey shirts which should be white, funny shaped skirts where the pleats have either been tumble dried out or not ironed, etc.

But I never ironed school shirts, i bought m and s ultimate non iron ones. Even for my DDs' bespoke school shirts I just hung them on hangers to dry. They were so synthetic there were no creases!

I wash my grandson's shirts, as his parents don't have much white stuff and his shirts would go grey (drove me insane looking at them!)
I do their occasional white washing as well but I don't iron them.

I’m surprised they only get a day’s wear out of them! For one, I’d consider stretching to two days to cut down on ironing then definitely your DH has got to help out.

I've better things to be doing too. But rocking up to work unkempt, is not on.

Wash and spin slow, immediately hang on 15 hangers. Should dry fine.

adlitem · 31/05/2022 16:34

I wouldn't be ironing DH's shirts. He can do 5 at the weekend if he's pushed for time during the week.
for DC we have non-iron shirts. Hang up after a tumble dry, or on hangers on the line and they are fine.

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 31/05/2022 16:40

I used to iron dh work shirts when I was a sahm. He complained I didn't do it right, just the once. He didn't want to do them "properly" himself so I nicely dropped them at the dry cleaners from then on in.

Fortunately dc school had polo shirts as an option for their uniform. Washed then put on hanger. Job done. Life is too short for ironing.

Teenagehorrorbag · 31/05/2022 23:04

All supermarket polycotton shirts will dry perfectly well on a hanger. They may look a bit creased but as soon as DC put them on they look fine. Seriously - nobody irons school uniform! That includes trousers and skirts too.

DH's shirts ditto - unless he insists on pure cotton or linen shirts. If he buys stuff like M&S office shirts they'll be polycotton and can dry on a hanger. (I don't know what happens if you tumble dry as I never do). But I second the idea of getting him to iron his own - depending on who works what hours etc. and what is reasonable.

Also - preschoolers don't need a clean shirt every day, especially in winter months (unless they spill food or paint etc). Make life easy on yourself - and don't stress.

I hang them up damp out of the washing machine & they’re fine.. no need to iron

TheAsHaveIt · 17/11/2022 09:11

Do you have room for a tumble dryer? Just buy one, it's way easier.

greenacrylicpaint · 17/11/2022 09:33

shirt setting on washer.
vigorous shake and flick & hang up to dry.
if worn under a jacket that's enough.

if anyone wants an ironed shirt they can do it themselves.

I'm not sure you realise that you bumped up a thread that was last posted (before you posted on it) back at the end of May 2022.

Just passing the info along :)
