Who will win between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation case

Egtermekaar · 25/05/2022 14:49

If you were jury in this case, how would you decide?

I think Johnny Depp will win because he had strong, reliable and consistent evidence of "his" case

I hope MN will allow debate about a matter of public interest.

So, they both lost and they are both appalling, toxic human beings. Heard lost by a bit more than Depp lost, but he still lost.

And the lawyers won, in a very big way. Good for them. 💰💰💰💰

Sounds like a pretty fair result all round to me. 👏👏👏

Don't agree. Heard lost by a galactic mile.

One will find their way back to well paid employment in Hollywood. The other will become the next Lynsey Lohan. She's got a head start with her TMZ network.

Agree, she lost on every count, the most killing part for me was that the jury found her to have purposefully and maliciously gone after him in the WP op-ed or something like that the term malicious was used.

Warner Brother executives who employed her also had to appear and testify in court (to cover their backsides).

I doubt she'll work with them again.

American civil liberties union

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/06/2022 23:56

She's always said the OP Ed wasn't about him, then on the stand says it was

She's a very damaged individual, a dangerous one who needs help imo

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 02/06/2022 00:00

Come on and he doesn't?
His dream was to become a good dad and he owns endless houses and a bloody Island but there he is,face down drugged out of his mind.

Giving his dd panic attacks??

Being carried out of places smashed?

Curlykimbo · 02/06/2022 00:05

JK Rowling believed Johnny Depp when the mob were baying for his blood. JK, who has made herself public enemy number 1 for defending women on Twitter.

Yeah he does too, doesn't take away from the fact she has some serious issues though and he's not parenting a young child on his own if you want to start bringing up children.

One who she has from buying another women's womb. Although that doesn't seem to matter to the usual people on mn who hate that

TalkingCat · 01/06/2022 22:51

And this, is how men like Depp get away with abusing women. People fall for their public nice guy act.

Hes won, so please stop with the libel

@minutesturntohours He won a defamation case, that doesn't denounce the fact he lost a case in the UK that proved he abused Amber.

@TalkingCat

and your point is?

You really need to learn a little bit about civil law in the UK. You have said numerous times that he was 'found guilty' in the UK. There is no such thing as a guilty verdict in a case like that, a single judge found on the balance of probability (as low as 51%) that the Sun did not libel him. This verdict was reached at least in part because AH committed perjury. JD was refused an appeal because the judge did not err in law which is NOT proof that the judge was right.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/06/2022 02:01

So 1 all for rich , drug taking abusive people who should stay away from each other and get on with their lives now then

Let's hope that's the end of it all

LetitiaLeghorn · 02/06/2022 03:46

@TalkingCatThis is another OJ Simpson. Justice only favours the rich in the US. That's why Heard won in the UK.

Heard didn't win anything. The UK Court case was Depp vs News Group Newspapers, which is a lot richer than Johnny Depp. So maybe justice favours the rich in the UK as well?

BigFatLiar · 02/06/2022 08:00

This is another OJ Simpson.

Hardly an OJ case, He won his criminal case because the police and prosecution totally messed up.

Ithoughtsummerwascoming · 02/06/2022 08:13

I thought both her parents were drugs addicts?

Whatever issue's she had I think it's clear being with Johnny would have made them.100 times worse.
To be honest unless he said to her pretty early on in their relationship, I'm a junkie.

I am addicted to many substances and my team enables me.

I do sober up when I can but this is what you will be dealing with...

He sold her false goods didn't he.

I assume he wasn't honest about the extent of his addictions at all instead he was throwing money at her and her friends and family to "woo" her.
Once she was deep in ,the "pattern" emerged.

However I think she's foolish for marrying him.
Because by that point she had been the victim of abusive behaviour.

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 02/06/2022 10:01

This article is interesting. Republicans hated JD because he made a joke about Trump being assassinated but Reps and Trump have been falling over themselves to support him now because they hate women; they hate feminists and they hated Me Too.

The social media onslaught was about getting women to stfu and showing rich men in the US can shop around for their desired result.

AH was awarded damages too but even if every count had been found in her favour, posters wouldn't have been on here gloating. There was no gloating when the UK case upheld so many counts of abuse against him. Most women (and men with empathy tbh) don't celebrate abuse. Yet another sign that for the JD 'supporters'/bots/Republicans/MRAs/TRAs this was never about abuse. It was about certain factions consistently trying to get women to shut up and inadvertently showing how inadequate social media is at managing co-ordinated assaults. Women and many politicians have known both those things for a long time. This circus has just brought it to wider attention and given them more evidence for pushing ahead with social media reform.

Why Republicans Supported JD

DaisyQuakeJohnson · 02/06/2022 10:15

And for posters still spreading disinformation about the UK case (where - to quote The Guardian - 'Of the 14 alleged assaults heard in open court – all of which have been denied by Depp – he [the judge] found that 12 of them were proved on the balance of probability. 12 out of 14 were proven - and that judgement still stands).

This explainer from a lawyer may help posters struggling to understand why the findings were different -
'Mark Stephens, an international media lawyer familiar with both cases, said Depp’s legal team in the United States ran a strategy known as DARVO — an acronym for deny, attack, and reverse victim and offender — in which Depp became the victim and Heard the abuser.

“We find that DARVO works very well with juries but almost never works with judges, who are trained to look at evidence,” Stephens said.'

DARVO is a recognised technique used by MRAs; TRAs; misogynists and abusers. It's a lot of 'sound and fury' that they hope distracts people from facts and evidence. It's gaslighting on steroids.

There was no gloating when the UK case upheld so many counts of abuse against him.

There's a big difference between the two cases, though. In the UK trial people had to accept the judges finding was made professionally and in good faith. But the US trial was televised so people could see the demeanour of witnesses and assess evidence themselves. People could judge her overacting performance and make their own decision on pledge vs donate. It gave opportunity for Morgan Night to see evidence given and deny it. We could see Amber Heard slap her hands over her mouth as she said TMZ has been alerted. The televisation gave people the possibility to see all of the trial first hand and make their own decision.

It might be if the uk judge knew that Heard had lied over some things, that might have changed his impression of her and his belief in everything she said. And the result may have been different. We don't know.
