HotDog -
Yes I read that they looked so ridiculously masculine and would obviously never pass as women, so they had to put loads of make up on them and then shot it in black and white.

What’s the last line of the film?

Its a facial expression

SisterAgatha · 23/05/2022 22:05

I just had a quick Google. She weighed 8lbs less than me. And her waist was 8 inches smaller than mine. I wear a 12/14 on the bottom, 10 on the top.

Pootle40 · 23/05/2022 22:06

One of the best films ever made.

Yes, as I said she was miniscule

I dont know why there has been this thing over the years to make out she was bigger than she was.

You only have to look at her in comparison with Jane Russell, Jane Russell was slim and trim but her frame is much bigger than MM. MM was tiny.

EVHead · 23/05/2022 22:11

I never got the fuss about Tony Curtis. Jack Lemmon is the man!

NewbieDivergent · 23/05/2022 22:11

I've never seen it,but judging by this thread I definitely should.

JohannSebastianBach · 23/05/2022 22:12

I just want to make sure that Honey stays in the hive …. they’ll be no buzzing around tonight ..

My favourite film.

YADNBU OP and have great taste 😊

AnuSTart · 23/05/2022 22:21

I have a book somewhere of snippets of poetry she wrote and drawings. She was actually terribly bright - definitely in the league of Norman Mailer for instance, but she was female and as such just treated as a sex symbol. She was utterly gorgeous so that was an easy thing to do, but she suffered horribly and her genius made her end more inevitable.
They have shown footage of her in GPB slowed down, next to Jayne Mansfield and her moves are lithe and smooth unlike Mansfield's which, slowed down, look like clockwork in comparison. MM was the real deal.
Like Heddy Lamar who invented wifi no less, she was just a woman. Women are bloody amazing.

MintyGreenDream · 23/05/2022 22:28

I didnt know he was supposed to be impersonating Cary Grant.

One of the few films I actually bought a tape of .
I still have it - unopened and pristine condition because I also have it recorded. I havent watched it for a while but like to know its there for when I need some god entertainment.
My favourite bit is in the bunks on the train. Loved this whole section of the film.

ClaudiusTheGod · 23/05/2022 22:33

“Isn’t water polo terribly dangerous?”

“I’ll say. I had two ponies drowned under me.”

🤣🤣🤣

I love that one!

Thelikelylass · 23/05/2022 22:36

Lemmon and Curtis both dressed as women but felt they were just being parodies- they then decided that they would wear beautifully designed clothes as if they were actually woman and the whole thing clicked into place.
It is a magnificent film and my favourite bit is the look of glee on Jack Lemmon's face as he realised Tony Curtis won't get back to the hotel in time to change. Absolute wonderful comedic timing.

Miri13 · 23/05/2022 22:40

Love, love, love it! Such a great movie.

Whatup · 23/05/2022 22:41

White chicks the movie stole their plot

Lazydaisydaydream · 23/05/2022 22:45

I’m sure I saw Marilyn’s measurements in an article once and she was same measurements as I was at the time, and I was a UK 8/10. Sizing has changed a lot in the decades since her films, if you’ve ever bought a wedding dress they seem to still size them along the old sizes for some reason.

Timeandtune · 23/05/2022 22:46

An all time favourite in our house. One of the few films you can rewatch and still find hilarious.
Saw a stage version a few years back with Langside College drama students . Was equally hilarious. Chap in Jack Lemmon role went on to be a successful actor.

Such a stunningly beautiful woman with a sensational body, a great voice and so much talent... a real loss.

She did indeed have a sensational body even though back then women didn’t work out or go to the gym or have boob jobs or butt lifts.

5thHelena · 23/05/2022 22:55

@CounsellorTroi Marilyn very definitely did work out
