To think the problem with Netflix is nothing ever finishes.

Everything has to have more than one bloody season. Nothing has an ending, just so the last drop cam be eeked out of an idea.

Just watched 'Pieces of her' and it is left unfinished, cue another season with no real content.
Bates Motel, dragged on until it was unwatchable

There are loads more, why can't there just be one series (not season) and have a conclusion?

Agreed! I only watch limited series because of this

StormyWaterCloud · 24/05/2022 07:15

The ending of killing eve was AWFUL. But I think the last series was a little bit overkill

Punisher has moved to Disney plus now.

I'm really enjoying the eyecandy series. But it is not for those of a delicate disposition.

Have they made a third series?! 😮

Orpheline · 24/05/2022 08:37

A lot of extended shows end up being produced by the lead actors, i.e. Greys Anatomy.

butimjayigetaway · 24/05/2022 10:46

better call saul is about to finish.

Hobbesmanc · 24/05/2022 11:04

My Netflix/Prime aps are littered with series that overstayed their welcome. To be fair to Grey Anatomy it kept me going through lockdown- but as soon as I got to the lockdown episodes around series 17 I just stopped watching.

Homeland, Heroes, Handmaids Tale, Madmen, Walking Dead. All abandoned

newnamethanks · 24/05/2022 11:34

No more Mindhunter? Bugger. That was something I stuck with for 2 series.

The only one of those I haven’t started myself is Homeland but I did abandon each of the others.

(Tbf, I’m not sure there was anyone who didn’t abandon Heroes by season 3).

Theres loads on there with only 1 season. Search categories and choose binge in a weekend.

IcedPurple · 24/05/2022 16:45

NippyWoowoo · 23/05/2022 20:32

lol OP, this is the PERFECT example of a show that did not need a second season.

I'm not convinced it needed a first season.

IcedPurple · 24/05/2022 16:49

Also The Bridge or Broen as is it's Nordic name is one of the best shows ever and ended perfectly as left me wanting more. The Killing another one and The Chestnut.. I love Nordic drama's and the pace of them and do not go on for more than 2 seasons...Really get to know the characters and invested in them.

I thought the 3rd series of 'Borgen' was unnecessary and not up to the standard of the previous two. It was only meant to be a two series project, but they tacked on a 3rd series because it became so internationally popular, and now there's a series 4 coming to NF.

Same with 'The Killing'. First series was one of the best things ever on telly. Series 2 was very good but not quite as brilliant. Series 3 was meh.

This isn't a Netflix thing. It's a US TV thing. Basically the aim was to get your series to 100 episodes to make it marketable for syndication purposes. As American dramas are usually 22 episodes per series, you hit the magic number somewhere during season 5. Most actors are given a 6 season contract for this reason.

It's definitely been around since the 90s - they did it with Dawson's Creek. I believe it's probably been going on for longer.

The 90s?? More like the 50s.

BalloonsAndWhistles · 27/05/2022 21:02

I gave up on Pretty Little Liars for basically this reason. Whilst I wanted to find out the ending, I was just sick of being teased by it and never quite getting there. In the end, I stopped and eventually Googled it 😆

PurpleButterflyWings · 27/05/2022 21:11

Sort of agree. Some things do finish though. They are a limited series. Midnight Mass was one.

But yeah, when things drag on a bit, it gets irksome. Orange Is The New Black was one of the best shows ever (IMO) for the first 2-3 seasons, then it got a bit 'meh.' One entire season was about one prison riot. It was like one long tedious episode. Netflix have form for this with some programmes.

Also, The Walking Dead was brilliant to begin with, but just got boring and shit by season 6. Even Game of Thrones got tedious. Glee too. First 3-4 seasons .. good. Then it got shit.

Breaking Bad and Orphan Black and Cougar Town and Downton Abbey got it about right 5 seasons each. (CT and DA may have been 6.) But they all ended at the right time. And were never shit. (IMO.)

I thought Bates Motel was a good amount actually. Only 5 seasons, and all good IMO.

PurpleButterflyWings · 27/05/2022 21:13

Actually Walking Dead got boring by season 4.

Sowingbees · 27/05/2022 21:20

You tried to save me but I paid no heed. Liar is awful and a prim example of my issue. It should have ended with his arrest, not dragged onto another series with his murder. I didn't start the second series season.

The second season is absolutely dire, just one dodgy flashback after another leading to a ridiculous ending. I'm not sure why I watched it 🤔

I binged watched the OITNB riot season over a few days, so it worked for me. I think the quality dropped a little toward the end, but I still enjoyed it.

I am still half way through the last season of Breaking Bad, but in some ways the later seasons are better than the earlier ones.
