To think the problem with Netflix is nothing ever finishes.

Everything has to have more than one bloody season. Nothing has an ending, just so the last drop cam be eeked out of an idea.

Just watched 'Pieces of her' and it is left unfinished, cue another season with no real content.
Bates Motel, dragged on until it was unwatchable

There are loads more, why can't there just be one series (not season) and have a conclusion?

It's also really irritating when you really get into something on Netflix and it doesn't finish because the show got cancelled.

This is what I was thinking too. There's at least 3 Netflix series that I got really into only to find they'd been cancelled after one or two series and all I was left with was the cliff hanger series finales.

Spinning out

We need a revenge spin off, and another season of homeland

I will NEVER forgive them for fear they did to Quinn. I think it ended perfectly, no need for another season.

SkiingIsHeaven · 23/05/2022 23:47

Hold Tight finishes. That's good.

Lots of Harlan Coburn series are good and they come to an end because they are based on stand alone books.

Some are made in foreign languages but you can load them in English.

A lot of the foreign dramas are good, particularly the Scandi ones and the Spanish ones.

I find this is generally true of all American shows. Much less so with British. And this was before Netflix too.

If a British broadcaster had made Lost (for example), it would have been over in 3 seasons, the ending would have been decided before episode 1 was ever written, and it would have gone down as an amazing show iconic of its time.

Instead, as I've found with most American series, it's a ratings game. No plot is decided for a fixed period. No concern is given to declining quality or story arcs etc.

Yes, I remember reading this years ago, can’t remember who it was but an interview with a British based writer who had gone to the US. Basically, pitching in the UK, a story idea required a story arc, a beginning, middle and end at commissioning stage. Not so in the US where a big grand opening was enough, no one cared whether you knew where you were going with it, they’d decide when it ended based on viewing figures and popularity. So yes, that explains my four wasted years on Lost. 🙄

Schitt's Creek is absolutely perfect in length, it ends leaving you totally in love with all the Characters and heartbroken that it's all over.

I loved it so much I started watching it all over again from the start, and it's even better the second time around.

This is what I was thinking too. There's at least 3 Netflix series that I got really into only to find they'd been cancelled after one or two series and all I was left with was the cliff hanger series finales.

This happened with Mindhunter - it was bloody brilliant, and just stopped and was left hanging after two series because the series got cancelled. I was gutted!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 24/05/2022 02:34

Also agree with those who said wanted more of Mindhunter as an amazing show and really loved it as so interesting...one of the best..Another show that was great was Seven Seconds with Regina King and would have liked a second season as a very good show and she is excellent on screen..

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 24/05/2022 02:39

Also The Bridge or Broen as is it's Nordic name is one of the best shows ever and ended perfectly as left me wanting more. The Killing another one and The Chestnut.. I love Nordic drama's and the pace of them and do not go on for more than 2 seasons...Really get to know the characters and invested in them..Someone mentioned Lost which was one of the best shows of the time and then it just added more seasons in the middle and it truly became lost in stupidity and we were all lost and it got ridiculous and will always be remembered for that..Such a shame as really was something so different but greed got in the way and money..

It's getting another season, I literally just saw the confirmation about 20 minutes ago. I didn't watch it and I've no idea how #1 ended so can't comment further but #2 is definitely confirmed.

Where are you reading this? I can find a bunch of articles saying that it’s not happening, but nothing to confirm that it is.

Loopyloopy · 24/05/2022 02:50

Lucifer suffered from this. The last season was not only terrible, but managed to undermine and therefore ruin the previous series.

I enjoyed the last season of Brooklyn 99, although it was obviously impaired by the pandemic.

Scrubs was an odd case. What became the final season was written as the first season of a spin-off, but the network decided it was better marketed as a continuation - whoops!

CeeJay81 · 24/05/2022 04:00

I've been so disappointed in the way they end things. Me and hubby were enjoying Ozark but the last season, the ending was rubbish. Almost Wish we'd never watched it.

DrippyLongstocking · 24/05/2022 04:32

I felt like the end of Bojack Horseman was rushed (like they condensed two seasons of plot into one), which is a shame because it’s probably the best original series Netflix have done.

At least it did get an ending though, I find Netflix to be really brutal when it comes to axing shows, especially those left on cliffhangers.

DrippyLongstocking · 24/05/2022 04:33

Glow, The Santa Clarita Diet and Tuca and Bertie were both canceled before their time (although at least the latter got picked up elsewhere).

TigerLilyTail · 24/05/2022 05:19

I know what you mean. Shows don’t know if they will get renewed or not, so a lot end up in the air and other shows are dragged out with no coherent storyline.

I will always be gutted about The Society. It was so good and now we will never know what happened.

Rosehugger · 24/05/2022 05:36

That's why I tend to prefer dramas on BBC. They usually have a satisfactory ending and there are not dozens of episodes.

tttigress · 24/05/2022 05:41

I have actually gone back to watching films because you only have to invest a couple of hours to watch them.

PurplePinecone · 24/05/2022 05:45

Dark finished.

I am more annoyed about shows getting cancelled before the end of the story. Way too many of them!

SaskiaRembrandt · 24/05/2022 05:50

Chikapu · 23/05/2022 19:11

I really wish that Supernatural had ended way sooner, the last three seasons were just dire (I never thought I'd say that!) The whole Sam's dead, Dean's dead one or both of them are evil thing got really boring.

Crowley? Is that you?

Brokenseas · 24/05/2022 06:49

Just finished watching a fantastic limited series, Clark. Swedish with Bill Skarsgaard in the lead (and he is so good).

Another good limited show from a few years ago was Ava DuVernay's When They See Us. They're usually marked up as such so you know from the off I think?

newnamethanks · 24/05/2022 06:51

My problem with Netflix is I rarely finish anything I start watching. I've seen ten minutes or so of dozens of their offerings but few have held my interest.

ChilledScandi · 24/05/2022 06:58

Into the night..
