Too many holidays?

HuntyGirl · 23/05/2022 13:21

I love to holiday. DH does too but thinks we do too many abroad and staycations. I like to go abroad about 4 times a year and the same amount of staycations if not more.

AIBU to want to holiday so much?

I love going on holiday and if I could afford it I would absolutely go more than I do now.

However I probably wouldn’t go as often as you do as it seems you don’t get much time to do stuff at home?
Are you going on holiday almost every holiday you have from work?

They're only going for a week at a time, 3 out of 4 to Europe, so it's not that much really. The rest are "staycations".

Swayingpalmtrees · 23/05/2022 18:15

My motto is: enjoy everything you can whilst you can!
We take lots of holidays and long weekends too, for me living a life of travel and cultural experiences means everything to me, so instead of money spent on other things we tend to go away instead. We maximise all bank holidays and fly out after work, tag stuff onto work trips etc. It works for us.

Hellsbe · 23/05/2022 19:24

I don’t think it’s too many, but if your dh does, then why not take one with friends or go away a few days by yourself?
I love holidays and we go on as many as we can fit in, but I usually go away with a girlfriend for a few days every year, and go for a long weekend myself either uk or Europe as well and dh stays home.

AnyFucker · 23/05/2022 19:28

Surely you've got a butler or something you can moan to about this kind of trivial shit

aye

Oblomov22 · 23/05/2022 19:53

I adore going on holiday. I would go even more if I could afford it.

Sunnytwobridges · 23/05/2022 20:57

I'm more on you DH's side, I wouldn't like to holiday that often even within the country, but to each their own. I enjoy the true meaning of a staycation where you're at home and you just laze around for a few days so you can decompress from work and not feel the pressure to do something. Maybe he can stay behind sometimes (which I'd be fine with) and you go on your holiday and enjoy.

whumpthereitis · 23/05/2022 21:02

I don’t think it’s too much. That’s similar to what we do, three European and one long haul.

If you like travelling, can afford it, and prioritise wanting to do it, then go for it.

This absolutely sums up how I feel about life in general.
life is for living.

Here’s an idea. Why not not open the thread. Not difficult is it?
The op was very clear what the subject was😀

Hellsbe · 25/05/2022 18:46

I skip past anything to do with gardening or interior design cos I couldn’t give a fuck about them and have no interest!!

Blarting · 25/05/2022 18:51

@Hellsbe the title wasn't clear at all! I opened it thinking it was a post whinging about teachers holidays, but hey presto it was OP moaning about her DH wanting to curtail her eight holidays a year.

Plantstrees · 25/05/2022 18:54

I think you should fly less as it is so bad for the planet.

You could halve your carbon footprint if you went abroad twice for two weeks instead of four times for one week. Less hassle too!

Louise0701 · 25/05/2022 19:01

@Plantstrees boring.

balalake · 25/05/2022 19:06

It's not the holiday it's how you travel there that is what matters in my opinion. And also things such as flights for stag/hen weekends instead of some local celebration.

Four ferry or Eurostar journeys a lot less harmful to the environment than four flights.

Do bore off! I’ve no intention of flying less. I have lots of trips booked for this year and a couple for next.
Have been away three times already this year.

Who cares! Did we really need cheaper and verse?

Thatswhyimacat · 25/05/2022 20:46

I can't stand going away for more than a week at most and don't understand how people do it - I get so bored being in one place for that amount of time without the freedom of my home. I much prefer lots of mini breaks, but my family live abroad so trips for Christmas etc count towards my total, I would say I go abroad 2-3 times a year and then a UK trip once or twice.

Louise0701 · 26/05/2022 07:07

@Thatswhyimacat are you going to crap places where you can’t find things to do for 2 weeks? You do know you don’t have to stay in 1 place for the entire time?

ivykaty44 · 26/05/2022 07:16

8 holidays a year
if they are a week each, this would be 56 days out of 365 it’s 16% if the year on holiday and 84% doing other stuff

hardly excessive

RollOnWinter · 26/05/2022 07:22

Huntygirl Oh, you poor thing. You must need a rest after all those holidays. (yes, I'm being facetious, because you're bragging)

Roselilly36 · 26/05/2022 07:32

My husband is like this, he likes to be at home. We do go on holidays, and book villas or uk holiday cottages, don’t really like hotels. Surely you can reach a compromise and have one of the weeks at home or cut the number of the uk weekend trips.
