I find myself wishing I knew nothing about it and hadn't read the story about the winning couple!
All day I've been ruminating over that extraordinary sum of money and what it must feel like....it's left me feeling really flat especially when the imagination suddenly dissolves and I'm left mulling over my actual reality of bills and debts and whatever.

It's not even like I have a bad life in so far as I've got a roof over my head and a secure job, no posh holidays or particular luxuries but in the fortune position of not having to worry too much about the food bill and can have a meal out once in a while. And we're all healthy which £184million cannot buy.

The irony is I don't even play the bloody lottery!!

But yeh, very very flat

It’s a shocking amount of money when you think that is equivalent to more than £2million for each of the UK population (have I got that right - surely not 😳) Maths Maths maths hmm I think that’s right … surely not…how on earth .. I must have that wrong. Anyway they seem like a nice couple and they had the ticket so that’s the deal.

cigarettesNalcohol · 19/05/2022 21:22

If it's any consolation, they look a lot older than mid/late 40's... 😁 I thought they were in their 60's...
No but seriously, I thought it was quite a nice story to read in the news for once. Good for them!

I think they were mad to go public. They didn't want to particularly but didn't think they could keep it a secret.

Yeah I wouldn't go public - regardless of how much the prize money is. Certainly wouldn't go public with children in school. Easy to get caught up in the moment though.

Some win, some lose. I’ll be happy to have average luck personally. Imagine being this guy:

Oof. His Bitcoin would have been worth 200 million this time last year... so he's doubly fucked now.

Still not as much as this guy though.

showmethegin · 19/05/2022 21:24

Probably the jealousy talking but I did think it was a bit, tone deaf going public like that? People in this country are in dire straits at the moment so it did feel off to see people waving a massive cheque.

Bettyboopawoop · 19/05/2022 21:25

It's way too much money they really should perhaps have a few winners say the grand winner has 50 million and the 130 million is split between 130 who get a million each.

Eh? It’s £2 per person in the UK, not £2million!

ChuckBerrysBoots · 19/05/2022 21:26

They’re mad to go public. I’m not sure if even tell my husband 😆

Tormenteddd · 19/05/2022 21:26

Oops 😅 that’s a relief

RosesAndHellebores · 19/05/2022 21:26

Saw the headline. Though wow, that's amazing. Forgot the headline. Good luck to them and theirs.

Goosey3 · 19/05/2022 21:26

@MobLife It’s really lovely to daydream about what you’d do with that kind of money but the reality of going public with that kind of win isn’t all that glamorous.
I live local to where the last huge UK winner (over £160mil) was and they went public. The reality is having to have an assistant that opens your mail due to constant begging letters (absolutely no exaggeration!). I did not know the couple directly but a family member knew them through some friends and it certainly wasn’t all as glamorous as you’d like to think that kind of win would be!

Sammysquiz · 19/05/2022 21:26

I think they’re crazy going public. Pictures of their house, details of where it is, the names and ages of their children have all been in the press today. Madness!

Threeboysandadog · 19/05/2022 21:27

When I win the lottery (which I don’t do) I will tell everyone I came into some money from a distant relative to explain my small extravagances. I would never go public. I wouldn’t want anyone to know how much I had. I could then donate anonymously to my favourite charities.

You do have that wrong. But it's still a huge amount of money that could have been spread between a lot more people and still changed their lives. Hopefully the winners will help a lot of their own friends and family and charities.

@MobLife same, I was fantasizing on my lunch break about what I would do with the money ! I'd love to help out struggling family members.

And you would have many relatives you've hardly ever met coming out of the woodwork!

Goldpaw · 19/05/2022 21:28

Am in agreement about splitting it £1M between loads of people.

Badger1970 · 19/05/2022 21:28

They're local to us, and I can't believe that their home and her business have been splashed all over the press. I'd literally be too scared to sleep at night.........

It's an obscene amount of money, and I think there should be regulations that cap it at £5 million max per winner.

HeadNorth · 19/05/2022 21:28

It is so much money, I wonder if their marriage will survive?

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2022 21:29

I can't believe the papers have found an ex wife with a sob story so quickly. I envisage the press doing some hefty digging about for some dirt and quotes from 'friends' over the next few days.

That's some pretty bad math 🤣

Onwards22 · 19/05/2022 21:31

I feel the complete opposite - that things can get better and stories like this prove it.

I don’t play it very often as it’s not cheap but what does annoy me is that £1 million is a life changing amount of money for anyone - so why don’t they do 184 millionaires instead of one person getting it all as it’s way too much money for one person anyway.

Me neither 😂

123cupcake4 · 19/05/2022 21:34

Do any of these winners ever say they will make a donation to a charoty/charities?

User3568975431146 · 19/05/2022 21:35

What depressed me about it was that the first thing they did was look up houses with no upper limit.

The first thing I'd have done was find out who sold me it and give them a million.

The number of lives they could change with that amount of money and the first they they do is look at houses. 🙄

LocalHobo · 19/05/2022 21:20

I felt pretty cheesed off with the news. Wouldn't it be lovely if they donated £145 million to the NHS and kept £3 million for themselves? Never happens though, does it? I guess that is why I don't buy tickets.

That amount would keep the NHS running for about 8 hours.
