I find myself wishing I knew nothing about it and hadn't read the story about the winning couple!
All day I've been ruminating over that extraordinary sum of money and what it must feel like....it's left me feeling really flat especially when the imagination suddenly dissolves and I'm left mulling over my actual reality of bills and debts and whatever.

It's not even like I have a bad life in so far as I've got a roof over my head and a secure job, no posh holidays or particular luxuries but in the fortune position of not having to worry too much about the food bill and can have a meal out once in a while. And we're all healthy which £184million cannot buy.

The irony is I don't even play the bloody lottery!!

But yeh, very very flat

@SlightlyGeordieJohn I'm not suffering anything, I'm just pointing out you are wrong! You can get over 2% interest.

Is that basic enough for you?

Not on the amount stated. As for me being “just a trader”, no, I’m not, but thanks for the laugh, and off you run.

Onlyforcake · 21/05/2022 11:08

My mum and dad (in their £1m house) have been going on about this, totally oblivious to the wealth they already flaunt in a way that is repulsive. (New jag each, over the top watches). Some people are just greedy. I don't do the lottery as the it's all fake isn't it? Just another scam. Charity donations are minimal. Most winners font get the advertised jackpot etc. We just about manage our bills but we don't dream of money to stuff in our ears, I'd rather be aware of what is going on in the community around me than live a false, vaccuous life behind ornate gates.

The lottery’s fake?

I love a good conspiracy theory; what’s this one?

You are coming across as a bit resentful that your parents aren’t struggling like you; do you think they should be subsidizing you instead of getting things for themselves.

Biker47 · 21/05/2022 11:17

Don't understand all the nonsensical calls to "split it" typically being £1 million to each person, the whole purpose of the Euromillions lottery existing is to provide low chance, high reward prizes. The lottery offers multiple different draws at different odds and different reward level.

To put it another way, to win the jackpot on the Euromillions is about 1 in 140 million. Regular lottery is about 1 in 45 million, and to win the Thunderball is 1 in 8 million. If you "only" want to win a million pounds, buy 2 duplicate tickets on the Thunderball and you have a better chance of winning the jackpot in that compared to the Euromillions, it's also 50p cheaper, but the trade off is the max you will win will be £1 million.

@SlightlyGeordieJohni get you're upset I've proved you wrong, but your statement said "you can't get 2% on cash" , you're super pedantic about others, but don't like being called out.

You also said you were a trader, so I assumed you were just a trader?

2% since the recent BOE base rate rise, is easily achievable.

Now off you run and maybe brush up on the latest cash rates available?

LoopyLube · 21/05/2022 11:58

As this thread just goes to prove, telling anyone that you have money just leads to jealousy, bitterness and hatred. So yes they were ill advised to go public.

I disagree. Sudden possession of £184 million would be a bit difficult to hide unless you never spent any of it - or the return after you’d invested it.

I think there's a vast difference between friends, family and indeed the local community noticing you're suddenly loaded, and splashing the fact you've just come into £184m all over the world's press with photos and personal details. That's just crazy.

lollipoprainbow · 21/05/2022 12:59

The papers are now reporting they are eyeing up a 7.5 million property. Really wanted to know that with all the current cost of living issues. They are starting to irritate me greatly.

Don't read it then! Honestly it's not obligatory.

That’s interesting. Thanks for that @Blarting.

the80sweregreat · 21/05/2022 13:05

It's not until you visit other areas or look up online at the cost of houses in some parts of the country do you then realize how expensive it is. The area they are looking at is incredibly expensive. It is mind blowing how much money people have that haven't even won the euro millions or lottery!! Some people have seen their house rise in value triple over the years too
It is crazy.
In my day it was always ' the pools' too. You rarely hear about a pools winner anymore, but I think it's still going ??

Grantanow · 21/05/2022 13:07

It's excessive.

icelolly12 · 21/05/2022 13:18

I wouldn't feel too jealous of them...the amount of friends and family they will lose if they don't dish out money to them... I can imagine most people they know feeling entitled to a share of their luck, it might feel nice and exciting now but I really think it would also cause a lot of stress.

Blarting · 21/05/2022 13:23

@Blossomtoes isn't it interesting? You'd think a trader would be a little more informed wouldn't you?

Also the just stick your money in a Vanguard fund, what sound financial advice, nothing about emergency fund, short term, long term investments etc.

Blossomtoes · 21/05/2022 13:30

I’m saying nothing @Blarting! 😉

No you can’t get 2% on this amount. What possible use are retail rates for commercial amounts?

Blarting · 21/05/2022 14:16

@SlightlyGeordieJohn it's personal money, not retail, what is wrong with you? Argue all you like, it's there in black and white. An investment of £92m.

No one would invest that much in cash, for obvious reasons, but it is possible.

Retail amounts. I’m giving up on you now, I don’t debate with people who ignore key words to try to score points.

Blarting · 21/05/2022 14:21

@SlightlyGeordieJohn I give up on you and as for giving financial advice online, ie invest in a vanguard fund, I'm sure the FCA would be very interested in that.

Maybe I'll send them the screenshot?
