I’m a size 22, I’m 5’7.

I have zero motivation and I like food too much.

I’ve got a 3.5 year old and I’ve no energy most days as he’s very hard work.

I also have ADHD so I struggle to prioritise and plan healthy meals etc.

OP posts:
DressingGownofDoom · 15/05/2022 20:25

I struggle with my weight too, I find using hello fresh/Gousto useful because the food is there, it's portion controlled and it tastes good so it stops me ringing the chinese.

Wavygravy1 · 15/05/2022 20:30

I’m heavier, I’ve lost 12lb in 3 weeks though eating low carb. Don’t feel deprived as I can have cheese, Mayo, butter etc

Franklyfrost · 15/05/2022 20:33

Because of the adhd remove yourself from the kitchen, buy only healthy food and if you mess up, forgive yourself and get back on track. Don’t try to follow meal plans or complicated diets.

Do exercise that doesn’t involve too much executive function: for example getting off the bus one stop early so you have to walk home takes a seconds thought whereas dragging yourself out for a walk on the weekend means thinking about the weather, the route, your clothing etc.

JulyDreams · 15/05/2022 20:38

"But I like food" Sorry no sympathy. Only you can help yourself there. Good luck 🤞🏻

LostInTheColonies · 15/05/2022 20:52

Another recommendation for Michael Mosley. I was in a similar situation, and had a blood test which gave my head a massive wobble. Decided that I'd go all-out to do something about it so am currently 5 weeks in to keto fast 800. 11lb down. Amazingly, you don't feel hungry after a day or two despite the smaller meals. If you sign up to the website, you'll get meal plans & a shopping list too. Easy.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/05/2022 21:06

5 things to do this week.

  1. Change your dinner plate to a smaller one.

  2. Drink more water (especially when you might reach for something snacky)

  3. Dance to your favourite dance tune at least once a day so that it makes you slightly breathless

  4. Add an extra portion of veg to each meal and fruit to breakfast

  5. Keep a simple food diary so you can see what/when your eating.

I am 14.5 stone, 5ft 4. 6 weeks ago I was 15 stone, I’ve lost that weight doing the above, especially the water and smaller plate.

EBearhug · 15/05/2022 21:07

I was that weight a couple of years ago. I'm currently 13.5st. Mostly cutting out snacks and really reducing carbs. I suspect not being in the office and not eating in the work canteen has slso been a massive help. It's definitely helped with the emotional eating.

Cuck00soup · 15/05/2022 21:15

It took be a long time to learn this but If you are pissed off about something be honest and deal with your emotions.

Whether you are pissed off because you are clearing up someone else's shit again, upset because someone had treated your child badly, or you Internet is buggering about. The answer isn't a kit-kat. Grin

You have permission to rant here instead.

NamechangeFML · 15/05/2022 21:43

Have pasta but just have a little bit. Like literally a fistful.
would you get the " buzz" out of seeing the weight chart dropping down. Or is it an immediate fix thats needed?
why not get the buzz from hitting your hourly step target? The fitbit buzzes when youve completed whatever challenges for the day for eg. If its 9pm and im on 9000 steps, ill be stepping whilst doing the dishes to get that little digital fireworks display when i hit it!

What do you want from this thread op?

Why did I see you saying that with a patronising head tilt?
If you can't offer any support or anything useful why comment?

WouldBeGood · 15/05/2022 22:55

I get it.

Calorie counting is the way out of this. Calculate your daily calorie and protein allowance in the free James Smith Academy calculator and log food in my fitness pal. I’ve been doing this since January and it’s great, I’ve lost over a stone and a half and can eat anything. If I didn’t drink I’d have lost more

Poptart4 · 15/05/2022 23:03

Your making alot of excuses OP.

If your happy with your weight that's fine.

But if your not, stop with the excuses and do something about it.

I recommend downloading 'My fitness pal'.. you can use this app to track everything your eating. To lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit. Forget exercise, that's not going to help you lose weight. Eat less.

WouldBeGood · 15/05/2022 23:11

The book The Molecule of More about the power of dopamine has really helped me too. It’s not a diet book, but has helped me to understand my desire for that hit

Fedupmum21 · 15/05/2022 23:30

OP maybe have a look at Saxenda. I’m a nurse so first heard of it through work but have now decided to take it myself. Ordered from Boots online and waiting for it to arrive in store and to collect it. I have about 6 stone to loose to get to a healthy BMI and I hope that Saxenda will help me kick start my journey as I am an emotional eater.

ElCoh · 15/05/2022 23:45

Lose some weight if you're not happy then.

worraliberty · 15/05/2022 23:46

LadyintoGaddings · 15/05/2022 18:32

Thanks for the helpful advice

i guess I’m posting for help and encouragement.

I do walk quite a lot , I did actually start the couch to 5k last year and was doing well, although I didn’t get past week 3, I kept repeating weeks. Then my mental health got bad and I struggled to find the motivation.

I wouldn’t be able to fast or skip meals as I feel horrendous if I don’t eat.

I wouldn’t be able to fast or skip meals as I feel horrendous if I don’t eat.

Actually horrendous or just hungry and a bit irritable?

Could you maybe make it through to about 11.30am for a very early lunch, and then have an early dinner?

If you're a 3 meals a day person, it is possible to phase out one meal slowly by gradually altering eating times.

ElCoh · 16/05/2022 01:06

Forget exercise, that's not going to help you lose weight.

Tf.

Brieandcamembert · 16/05/2022 07:25

Forget exercise, that's not going to help you lose weight
**

  1. Of course exercise helps you lose weight
  2. You need to exercise for your health.

doadeer · 16/05/2022 07:34

I wasn't being remotely patronising. I lost 3.5 stone last year. People want different things when they start a thread like this. And I did offer something I thought was helpful up thread.

I'm sorry you're feeling so down. Where do your calories come from? What is your current diet and daily life? Do you eat from stress with your son? I think it's always best to make small changes rather than anything dramatic that you can't sustain.

NashvilleQueen · 16/05/2022 07:40

Try some small swaps. So fat free yoghurt rather than normal. Fry light rather than oil. Pasta/rice instead of potato. Sweetner instead of sugar. Skimmed rather than semi skimmed. And so on.

Entirely cut out:
Pastry
Butter
Chocolate/sweets
Takeaways if you have them

Eat more:
Salad
Berries
Lean meat
Fish

Onlyhuman123 · 16/05/2022 07:47

See if you can find a copy of Dr rangan chatterjee's book 'feel great, lose weight'. It's a good book and I follow 'the fitness chef' on FB/Instagram. Full of good advice about the fact that there are no 'bad' foods etc. Start by reducing portion sizes...if you get hungry, think protein first to help keep you full, drink water and get back to C25K, it doesn't matter if you repeat weeks...you'll still be moving faster than the coach potatoes!! You can do this!! Hugs.

LilythePunk · 16/05/2022 07:57

Weighing portions is crucial. If you see what a portion of cereal or spaghetti should look like it can be a shocker.
Cut out all sugar. Jam, hidden sugar, all fizzy drinks. St Dalfour jam is sugar free without artificial additives. Cut out alcohol.
Reduce carbs so no more than two pieces of bread a day. Rice should be whole grain, and weigh it. Don’t eat pasta at all if possible.
Cut out butter or spread it very thinly.
Don’t eat cheese or if you do, no more than a matchbox size portion.
Walk at least an hour a day , briskly. More if you can.
Eat lots of steamed veg, salads without mayonnaise. Use small amounts of virgin olive oil on dressings.
Don’t snack, eat three meals a day and don’t eat after 7pm.
Drink loads of water. Add cucumber, mint, lemon , ice.
Make sure every meal contains protein which isn’t factory farmed or processed.
Log everything on my fitness pal. Keep within the calorie parameters and don’t eat the exercise calories.

Onionpatch · 16/05/2022 08:04

I think exercise really helps with mental and physical health and focussing on health is more motivating than just weight.

I also felt awful when i was hungry but I found focussing on keeping blood sugar stable has helped me with that. i used to eat lots of cakes/biscuits etc as a 'pick me up' after a stress or mid morning but actually i now know I had a crash and felt awful a bit later so would have another biscuit and so on.

I'm now more careful to balance a meal with healthy fats, protein, fibre and complex carbs.

Oldnews · 16/05/2022 08:09

I'm in a similar space. Tried every diet going. Last month, I paid a deposit to have weight loss surgery in Turkey after researching it for 6 months. The chances of losing and keeping the weight off through diet and excersise at this point is something like less that 1 in 1000 and I can't bear fighting those odds any more.
