I'd let him tbh

PurassicJark · 15/05/2022 13:37

I'd let him too. But if you're concerned about the parts where people get eaten, I think there is an edited version to remove those parts?

VeryTrying22 · 15/05/2022 13:38

I’d let him watch it

i take a very similar parenting style to situations like this as my parents did, nothing out of bounds but there are consequences to decisions etc.they’ll soon regret pushing too much when get get nightmares!

Dinoboymama · 15/05/2022 13:39

My just turned 7 year old has watched all of them and loves them. She does want to see the new one coming out but we have said she will when it comes out to the public. Although me and dh are going to cinema for that one ourselves.

Tidypidy · 15/05/2022 13:39

I let my 9yo watch it recently and he said it was too scary. It's the tension and anticipation I think he really didn't like. Obviously you know your child best.

FabFitFifties · 15/05/2022 13:40

I'd let him watch it with an adult who can ff anything too scary.

Summerholidayorcovidagain · 15/05/2022 13:42

My ds grew up watching them. At 4 he saw the last one. At 7 he can't wait for the new one coming out!

Lockheart · 15/05/2022 13:44

It depends on your child. I watched it when I was quite young and I remember being freaked out about it. So much so that when I re-watched it as an adult years later I still felt that sudden dread (I'm fine with it now ofc and can't wait for the next one to come out, it was just that first moment from childhood memories!).

It didn't scar me though. If your 6 year old is fairly robust they'll be fine.

ILoveMyMonkey · 15/05/2022 14:21

My ds 9 saw them all when he was 8 and was fine with them. My top tip is to watch films you think might be a bit scary for them in the morning - they’re less scary in the daylight and then the kids have all day to stop thinking about them - always works for us.

onemouseplace · 15/05/2022 14:26

My (fairly robust) DD watched it when she was 5 or 6 (older DS). She's also happily watched Jaws around the same age. She's not the deepest thinker though, so didn't get too caught up in the atmosphere and tension.

I'd just make sure you watch it with him so you can turn off/ intervene if he's not enjoying it.

Notimeforaname · 15/05/2022 14:30

I saw it in the cinema when I was 6 with the summer project🤣. Thought it was great!

Ringmaster27 · 15/05/2022 14:32

My 5yo DS is obsessed with it.
And the newer Jurassic World movies. He’s counting down the days to when Jurassic World: Dominion comes out in June and we can go to the cinema to watch it!

Crunchymum · 15/05/2022 14:34

All mine have seen all of them (kids are aged 9, 7 and 4) and the older two went to see Fallen Kingdom at the cinema. They will also go and see Dominion when it comes out.

Obviously the 4yo doesn't understand much but loves to see the dinosaurs, even the gory bits 😬

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 15/05/2022 14:34

I'd let him, Dd loved Jaws at that age.

coffeeneeded · 15/05/2022 14:35

Thanks all. V interesting points.

I personally wouldn't.. I watched it around 9yrs old. And even now as a 33 yr old adult the only nightmares I ever have are about velociraptors 😨

Concestor · 15/05/2022 14:40

My six year old found it really scary and I regretted letting him see it. He kept talking about it for days and was obviously a bit traumatised.

Owwlie · 15/05/2022 14:41

5 year old DD started watching it recently. She was fine with the human getting eaten at the start, but refused to watch it after the dinosaur ate the cow.

transformandriseup · 15/05/2022 14:45

My little girl loves dinosaurs and has seen all of the Jurassic park films, she is only just 3. I'm probably a terrible mum.

Trinacham · 15/05/2022 14:47

My 7 year old niece watched it when she was 6 and became a fan of it, so I wouldn't say too young.

Mummyneedsacoffee · 15/05/2022 14:50

Depends on the child. You know yours better than anyone. Mine are fine with it at a young age but I know some will be scared.

my neighbours kid LOVES Jurassic park and his obsession started at 2 years old - she always screens films first to make sure. He knows it’s not real x

purplesequins · 15/05/2022 14:54

depends on the child. but possibly would wait another year or two.

the movie is very cleverly edited, the gory parts are implied rather than explicit.

BalloonSlayer · 15/05/2022 14:54

My DS was fine with the TRex eating people but couldn't cope with the scene when the dinosaur's frill suddenly comes up and it starts hissing. That was the end of that film!

But a couple of years later he was fine with it . . .

littlepeas · 15/05/2022 14:59

I was going to say I wouldn’t, but other responses have made me think I’m too cautious! I personally think the scene in the kitchen is very scary with tension/peril on a par with some horror films that we’d naturally be much more cautious about.

BlueRaincoat1 · 15/05/2022 15:04

I let my 6 yr old watch the first 3 this year. He isn't generally a fearful sort, he absolutely loved them.
