To think child benefit should be paid today!

It’s Friday, the weekend looms and I know today would be early to pay but why pay it late?? I really though it would be in today and I could take my kids out for a small treat tomorrow. Unfortunately I am totally broke at the moment due to clearing bills etc etc. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s disappointed. 😥

I get mine on a Saturday every month so you might get yours tomorrow, can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t.

Why do some people receive theirs every four weeks and others weekly?

As far as I’m aware only single parents can receive it weekly.

DeadButDelicious · 13/05/2022 12:32

I think sometimes it can depend on your bank as well. Mine used to show up in my bank account on a Saturday but would show as paid in on a Monday on my statement. When they stopped processing transactions over the weekend that stopped and it started appearing on a Monday, like it was supposed too.

WimbyAce · 13/05/2022 12:55

Must be different days as I have had mine already.

Makes sense to pay at the beginning of the week so food and necessities can be prioritised and people don’t spend on non-essential luxuries over a weekend.

How dare anyone receiving benefits of any kind spend any of it on non essential luxuries, eh. Anyway, your point doesn't make much sense as most people do their big shop for food and necessities at the weekend.

Single parents famously bad with money- it will go on gin and hair dye if they get it a lumpsum.

I'm joking of course but why is it different for single parents? Of which I am one @

DrManhattan · 13/05/2022 12:59

Planning?

So that they don't have to wait a whole month for their money. It's a throwback to when benefits were paid weekly. Single parents were allowed to request weekly rather than monthly payment.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/05/2022 13:06

I get it every 4 weeks on a Monday.

Comefromaway · 13/05/2022 13:08

Its paid 3 weeks in arrears and one week in advance.

AlistairCamel · 13/05/2022 13:09

Mine is officially every four weeks on a Monday BUT it’s always available in my bank account to spend on the Friday before. No idea why! Last month it was Thursday though due to Easter.

Bitwornout · 13/05/2022 13:09

I get mine weekly on a Tuesday. I'm not a single parent and never have been. I'm not on any other benefits either. Have no idea why I get it weekly but that's how it's always been paid to me.

Louise0701 · 13/05/2022 13:11

I’m not sure how it works but can you ask for an advance if you have no money?

MintJulia · 13/05/2022 13:12

Never mind OP, it's going to be a warm sunny weekend for most. Make a picnic from jam sandwiches, crisps & juice, take them to the park with a blanket and play football or hide&seek with them.

DockOTheBay · 13/05/2022 13:15

Did you get it on the 14th in January? Or the 17th? I think its just coincidence that it was the 14th in Feb, March and April. You should get the next one on 16th May (Monday)

canonlydoblue · 13/05/2022 13:18

If you were due to be paid on the 14th they would have paid today as its the last working day before that date. You were paid early in March because of the bank holiday. Your next three payments will be on the 16th May, 13th June and the 11th July.

Jellybott · 13/05/2022 13:23

Mine was paid early last month due to the bank holiday (14th instead of 18th), so it's not due until the 16th

IncompleteSenten · 13/05/2022 13:26

I'm sorry you were disappointed. Yes it's not late and as others have already said it is paid 4 weekly not calendar monthly but if it's come in on the 14t fo a few months I can see why you would have that date in your mind.

If you thought it would come today it's normal to feel a bit sad if you were hoping to use it for something nice for the kids.

Save it to do something nice with them next weekend.

Nightowl1989 · 13/05/2022 13:29

I get £21 every Monday unless bank holiday and I get it on the Friday

mewkins · 13/05/2022 13:32

Ispini · 13/05/2022 10:01

I usually get it on the 14th, I was just asking, some comments are unnecessarily negative. It really doesn’t affect anyone else but me today, flipping hell.

OP, mine went in on 14th last month and isn't in yet this month so understand what you're saying. Was last month's one quite early perhaps due to Easter etc?

IcedOatLatte · 13/05/2022 13:35

Comefromaway · 13/05/2022 13:08

Its paid 3 weeks in arrears and one week in advance.

Unless you've just had a baby and it's your first payment I don't understand what that has to do with the date you get paid.

Once you've had your first payment you get it every 4 weeks or every week, that bit doesn't affect the date does it? What am I missing?

Have you made a mistake on the date you get paid OP, why would you only be getting a monthly payment when the rest of us get it 4 weekly. You're missing out on money, I'd ring the DWP and ask why yours is different to everyone else, you must be owed money.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 13/05/2022 13:35

You do get it early if it falls on a BH though Confused. But the payment is the same day every 4 weeks, not monthly on a certain date.

YABU for clearly not even reading the correspondence that tells you this!

You don’t get it every month on the 14th. Nobody does.

You already sounded like you were beg-hinting. I’d get the thread taken down TBH.

Manekinek0 · 13/05/2022 10:35

Why do some people receive theirs every four weeks and others weekly?

4 weekly is the default.

If you are a single parent or on low income benefits you can ask to have it paid weekly.

butterpuffed · 13/05/2022 13:54

If you had it on the 14th of every month, that means you'd get 12 payments a year but CB is received every 4 weeks , making 13 payments a year.

I think you've got a bit muddled up with your dates somewhere.
