The adults and older children should be able to wear the same tshirts in bed as they do during the day unless you're changing the bedding every day or two, I wouldn't really want us and the kids in bed in clothes we've been out in all daly. Even if you're less clumsy than me and less likely to catch beans on your boobs, there's still all the environmental dirt from cars etc, and then you're rolling that around bed.

My kids spend time on/in their bed during the day and wearing outside clothes. They're absolutely fine!

Rediculous

That is so unhygienic
Are people actually doing that? Just going to bed in the same clothes they have been wearing all day Shock

We wear different t-shirts to bed but for a few nights.

MRex · 12/05/2022 07:24

We don't wear outside clothes in the bed, I wouldn't like the dirt from mud, train filth, other people sneezing etc all over my sheets. Pyjamas do a few days and are tiny, that isn't what's filling the machine.

Why is it unhygienic?

I mean, I get the idea that pollution and whatnot is all over your clothes - but, so what? Unless you are a brittle asthmatic, what actual difference does it make? If I’ve split something down my top, what difference does it make if I then sleep in said top? I guess it’s different if it’s visible filth from outside but genuinely can’t remember the last time that might have happened.

Most of my clothes are washed after one wear tbh if they touch the skin, but I just don’t get this mindset that something that causes literally no difference to anyone is ‘unhygienic’ and therefore bad. Mind you, I don’t tend to shower before bed I shower first thing in the morning and tend to sleep in the nude and then NOT wash the sheets everyday. I suspect I’m a disgusting person because of that.

Why are they in bed during the day fully dressed beyond toddler nap age though?

Swayingpalmtrees · 12/05/2022 10:49

Regarding your point of wearing day time tshirts to bed, your clothes are worn all day you will have spillages, cooking smells, dirt from the outside, picked up all sorts from travelling and moving around all day and pollution who wants to sleep in that?? How are you supposed to relax with a stench of onions and coffee stains all over you. It isn't clean - or pleasant so your body is festering in dirty clothes all night and day which is also unhealthy.

I enjoy a bath and fresh nightclothes in the evening, and a shower and fresh clothes for the day. I assume most people do a variation of this.

Sleeping naked wouldn't be for me, because of your body secretions going all over the bed linen every night. Cotton underwear and nightwear will absorb sweat and fluids etc. Each to their own but I would rather do a few extra washes and be clean and fresh, and enjoy a good nights sleep. Are parents putting their children to bed without PJs and in their day wear? I think that is very sad actually for the child. A warm bath and clean PJs is one of the nicest things in the world.

CaliforniaDrumming · 12/05/2022 10:55

There really is middle ground between doing 4 washes a day and 'festering' in dirty clothes. It is quite possible to have clean clothes for the night, and relatively fresh clothes for the day without running an MN version of My Beautiful Laundrette. (I don't sleep naked or wear my day clothes at night).

Caspianberg · 12/05/2022 11:31

@SleepingStandingUp I think lots of older children use there bedrooms in the day, and therefore bed to sit on and read or play.
I sit on my bed everyday and read in normal clothing whilst toddler settles for nap. I mean no shoes/ coat or anything

The question here is why isn't everybody?

Its such a comfy place for a rest. Comfier than the couch.

Because my two are toddler nap age and they won't go down at the same time
