a guy I have been dating poured me a glass of wine.
I said to him ‘that glass of wine is small’ - he said
’Well I do not want you to get any fatter’. Smirked. And handed it to me.
I was so shocked I did not say anything.

I have a normal BMI (not that it matters) and I go yoga and gym. He also asked me during our 2nd date ‘How many times do you go to the gym’ - whilst looking me up and down, smirking. I was a bit surprised but I just said 3/4 times per week… I missed a massive red flag there didn’t I. 😔

I totally know my own worth. I'm successful, happily married, have loads of great mates and wouldn't allow myself or those I love to be treated like shit.

I still think I'd have reacted like you, because my default is to presume people are decent. I think I'd have been gob smacked and only angry later, like you. So don't beat yourself up for not chucking the wine on him (waste of wine 🤷‍♀️). I'd have also wished to be quicker thinking and responded like @lancsgirl85 though 🙌🙌🙌

Gosh, now I have actually typed it out and seen the responses I realise how horrific a thing it was for him to say. This guy is nearly 40; I think he is a very bad man. Do you think he tries this on everyone he dates?

Don't respond at all. Don't tip the wine over his head (tempting as it may be). This is one of the few occasions where ghosting someone is absolutely acceptable. Block him if you want, but for gods sake do not respond to the sad inadequate little twat ever again!

I think he is that type. My friend dumped one of this type by text and he made her out to be the villian ‘by dumping him by text’ - as if that out did the months of this sort of behaviour he put her through.

Learn, shake it off, and move on. It’s really easy to second guess yourself when caught on the spot with someone new. You sound fabulous and deserve better x

Don't beat yourself up about the reaction you had @Meowykitten it's completely natural to feel shocked under circumstances like that. You don't expect your date to suddenly start behaving like an abusive twat.

I'm sure he does know that you're too good for him, that's why he tried to lower you self esteem, he probably does shit like that to women regularly as he knows he doesn't deserve a woman and can't keep one without destroying her confidence 🤷🏽‍♀️
