Do you have any simple effective tricks/products you do that you think really work or can't live without?

I've never really given much thought to my make up (i have a very simple routine, hasnt changed for 20 years!) and I'm lucky enough to have good skin but I'm nearing 40 and starting to feel like I need to maybe make a bit more effort, in the subtlest non permanent (ie non surgical!) way ideally 😂

For example:
Starting to lose definitely in my face shape, are those jade things really effective?

Starting to think about eye lash extensions or treatments etc.

Any miracle products?

Basically guys, any simple non invasive tricks or routines to make me feel more beautiful?!?!?! LOL!

Body tips welcome too... summer is coming.

Fake tan done well, makes you look permanently healthy in my opinion.
Drink more water and less wine (I don't stick to this one!)
Body hair, personally I keep it all in check, especially eyebrows and facial fluff.
Neat nails with clear varnish.
Hair trimmed and professionally coloured, can't get away with box dyes anymore.
Exfoliate and moisturise body daily (or as often as I can be bothered but my skin looks best done daily)
Personally I'm not bothering with lash extensions or fillers etc as I find the people that have had them done in their late 30's/early 40's just look their age but with fake lashes etc. Obviously it's possible they just haven't been done well!!
I've toned my makeup down a lot. Rarely wear eyeshadow anymore but when I do it's from my pallet of muted bronzes and golds. I aim for a naturally healthy look (rather than the totally knackered I feel on the inside 😆)
Hope this is what you where after OP otherwise I've rabbited on for quite a while for no reason haha!

Nice nails. They always look nice.

good skin. Mine used to be dry and sensitive but i know what to use and stick to it. Coconut oil at night with night cream and hyaluronic acid. Day is Clinique dramatically different. Good skin gives you a base for lovely even makeup

i love makeup. Primer which gives me a glow, foundation etc. and then glow drops and blusher. Look healthy

and remove facial hair, and tidy brows.

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 07/05/2022 14:47

Great thread, I could do with a few myself! At the moment I look like I've fallen out a wheelie bin lol 😆

Mojitomogul · 07/05/2022 14:57

Mix your daily moisturiser with a blob of highlighter, m and s do a good one from their own make up range. Gives a nice pearly glow. Lots of veggies and water to feel good from inside out. Hairwise- kerastase ultimate elixir oil is amazing and lasts for ages, one pump on dry hair then a quick refresh with the straighteners keeps hair looking tidy and shiny. Shaped eyebrows and then filled in with a pencil or powder gives good definition to the face. Also love my gua sha stone, massage most nights with a facial oil (rosehip) helps brighten skin.

Notimeforaname · 07/05/2022 14:57

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Filter.

Can be used alone or as a primer or just as a highlighter.

I recently got a lash lift and tint done. I look more awake and less dead in the eyes 😂

lovelyweathertoday · 07/05/2022 17:42

😂 sorry the teeth don't help!

It's the only beauty tip I have though.

MAC Ruby Woo (it's a blue red, it's very glam and you need to be confident to wear this one but it tbh it gives quite a self-confidence boost by itself) - instantly makes your teeth look whiter and you can buy a mini (needs a primer and a liner but you can get those at the supermarket).
MAC Pink Plaid (it's a dirty rose, good if you want sth subtle) - makes teeth look super white too (feels more comfortable with primer or chapstick underneath, I loooove the colour so I don't mind the extra step).
MAC Flat Out Fabulous (bright but very wearable fuchsia) - whiter teeth and you can get a mini. This one brightens the whole face up. When I feel like cr*ap this makes me feel better.
Rosehip Oil - works wonders but it must be the "right one". Price does not equal quality, you have to keep trying different ones and when you've found the right one, you'll know.
Avene Thermal water spray - for burns, itchy skin, etc, etc. Good for hair too. Other brands do zilch for me.
Bobbi Brown eye cream (can't remember the name) - I use it as a primer under my concealer and corrector. It makes everything look smoother. It was pricey but I've had mine for a looong time.
MAC Fix+ - I powder under the eyes and this takes away the cakiness and the "powdery" look. also use over eyeshadow when it looks a bit too powdery.
Cover yous dark circles! It takes years off. I might "skip makeup" BUT never this. I've tried loads over the years but going back to BB. Tips: 1) stick the concealer/corrector in your bra to warm up a bit before putting it on. It looks less cakey. I didn't need to do this before but now it makes a world of difference otherwise it all gets caught up is my wrinkles. 2) Go to a pro to get colour-matched! I've bought "similar" ones because I couldn't find my colour and once on it just doesn't work the same.
Shiseido Self-Refreshing Foundation (not the radiant one). It's very very comfortable on the skin and it makes you look "healthier". It doesn't need primer underneath.
Blush, blush, blush, always! Try different colours though and if you're super busy a cream one is easier to (re)apply. Avoid shimmery ones if you have large pores.
Eyebrow pencil - L'oreal does good ones that don't break the bank.
Eyelash curler and I like using MAC Brulé on the browbone (or sth else more suitable to your colouring) sometimes I just can't be bothered to have my eyebrows done and this hides a multitude of sins!
My eyes are small and deep-set, with age I've found there's more "darkness" to them so I've taken to wear more eyeshadow. It lightens/ lifts the eyes a bit.

You people not happy with their teeth I had braces at 47!! Took less than a year and cost £1500.

Nivea blue tub

I'll second the Nivea blue tub! I had a breast reduction and the surgeon recommended it.
I'll add stop eating fried food.

Braces won't fix my missing teeth.

DownTownAbbey2 · 07/05/2022 19:19

Regular hair cuts
eyebrow tint, I do this myself and it makes a big difference to my face.
I also get Botox twice a year and fillers once a year but didn’t start until late 40’s.
low alcohol intake.

BanjoVio · 07/05/2022 19:27

I have Invisalign braces now and they’ve come in at less than £1,000. I’m so happy I’ve done it (wedding in July)!

Also have just discovered make up setting spray that you use before and after putting make up on. Miracle. No more cake face! My make up looks just as good when I get home at 6pm as it did when I applied it at 6am 😍

Braces won't fix my missing teeth.

I had a coworker 10ish years ago and I remember him telling me he had a lot of work done throught the NHS, including implants if memory serves me right. He had leukemia though so it was extra important for him to have healthy teeth/gums.
Missing teeth impair the way one chews, so it might make you choke and have quite a detrimental impact on the way you eat, so it affects "nutrition". Maybe this is cheeky but why not talk to your GP and ask to for a referral so you can be assessed by an expert?
In the future you might need drugs like some for ostheoporosis that rotten the teeth. It also has a terrible impact on mental health. Maybe it's turning you into a recluse? Maybe you feel sick around others because you don't want to be seen because of your teeth..?
Missing teeth might also make the jaw not move properly, this causes headaches and stress (because the teeth don't have a resting position) that makes you grind your teeth and rmight result in fissures or fractures.
Talk to your GP. Even if you have to wait, maybe something can be done.

legoouch · 07/05/2022 19:36

Just bought a tube of Dr Jart ceramidin cream from SpaceNK - moisturiser for face/under eyes, it’s amazing at plumping/ hydrating skin, I’m already hooked! Mini tube is only about £12

Also can’t beat water, exercise and fruit/veg for feeling great.

declutteringmymind · 07/05/2022 19:46

SPF 30+ everyday
Retinol - look at skin and me or dermatica
Vitamin C and AHAs if your skin isn't too dry.

SingingSands · 07/05/2022 19:50

SPF every day, good sleep, good diet and plenty of water.

I probably only hit 2 out of these at any one time Blush

KylieCharlene · 07/05/2022 19:55

I love the Nivea blue tub. Slather it on my face before bed. I don't use a day cream as don't feel I need it due to my nighttime ritual!
Eyelash curlers
Brown/Black mascara and eyeliner looks much better and more youthful that a harsh black.
Personally I also find a pop of colour eyeshadow looks much more youthful than browns/neutrals.

LongLive89 · 07/05/2022 19:59

I second CT hollywood filter. Dab all over your face, blend with fingers. Sweep of bronzer and mascara (and shade brows if needed) and you’re good to go. If you don’t want a tinted highlighter like CT get Glossier Futuredew. I like to layer them both on.

Plenty of water and movement - fresh air walks are the best form of exercise - my dad and his dad (60’s and 90’s respectively swear by this and I agree).

Thenthatsthatthen · 07/05/2022 20:06

Cerave under eye cream, spf 30 every day, lots of water, I use coconut oil on my face every night followed by a night cream.

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/05/2022 20:12

Eyelash curlers and tubing mascara. Primer under foundation.

Oh and I use a cotton bud to remove any excess concealer, etc from the crease under my lower eyelashes.

As you get older, you may find that you need to apply blusher in a different place, i.e. not on the apples of your cheeks.
