Do you have any simple effective tricks/products you do that you think really work or can't live without?

I've never really given much thought to my make up (i have a very simple routine, hasnt changed for 20 years!) and I'm lucky enough to have good skin but I'm nearing 40 and starting to feel like I need to maybe make a bit more effort, in the subtlest non permanent (ie non surgical!) way ideally 😂

For example:
Starting to lose definitely in my face shape, are those jade things really effective?

Starting to think about eye lash extensions or treatments etc.

Any miracle products?

Basically guys, any simple non invasive tricks or routines to make me feel more beautiful?!?!?! LOL!

Body tips welcome too... summer is coming.

@crj123 - regular blue tub Nivea

Lovinglife45 · 08/05/2022 00:08

Lighter foundation or use concealer to cover blemishes

Drink water daily

At least 7 hours sleep

Bunty55 · 08/05/2022 00:18

I am over 60, and my hair is now silver/white. I have found that getting eyelash extensions and dyeing my eyebrows gives my face more definition.

Since a very young age I have always moisturised my neck and decolletage, sweeping the moisturiser upwards. My skin does benefit from this. No turkey neck here.

ThinWomansBrain · 08/05/2022 00:42

I've been using Connock London body oil on my face daily for about four years now - it's brilliant, my skin is better than it's ever been. A bottle lasts for ages (2 years+).
I used to cleanse with Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser - now 'downgraded" to Superdrug Vitamin E version - both are excellent, but Superdrug about a tenth of the price.

My go to beauty and body tip is to love what you have and not give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

Catkitkat · 08/05/2022 00:53

glossier futuredew
retinol 2-4 nights per week
microblading eyebrows (I have. Very uneven eyebrows so need this)
look after your nails and hair

Following! Lots of sleep and walking when and as you can.

Disneydatknee88 · 08/05/2022 02:17

The least effort look is a decent haircut, tidy eyebrows and giant sunglasses. Lazy chique

doadeer · 08/05/2022 03:48

For me...

Lots of water
Lots of healthy food
Orgasms ☺️

Skincare wise
Tretinoin makes an enormous difference. I then use La Roche-Posay Circaplast Baume and The Ordinary Squalene.
I use Dermatica

www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/Y2K0NE

Vitamin C in the morning and lots of Spf.

I also enjoy the massage tools like Gua Sha.

I feel like my skin is really glowing.

Erborian CC cream is my holy grail make up product, I wear that and a lip mask by Laniege in the day.

Hey @Yamyam13

There are a few thing's which I find work wonders:

  1. Drinking copious amounts of water. Think a litre every couple of hours. My skin is constantly hydrated, looks fresh and dewy.
  1. I use coconut oil to remove make-up and to moisturise the skin on my face and rest of my body. I moisturise every time I wash my face and body. Any brand from a place like Planet Organic. Ensuring that the oil is: Raw, Virgin, cold-pressed You'll find it in a glass or plastic tub amongst other cooking oils. Its usually packaged as 750/800g at a time. Again this keeps my skin always soft and supple.
  1. I use my Clarisonic face brush multiple times a day. I have various different brush heads which all do different things. So each day I use it 2x for cleansing (morning and evening), 2x for massaging (under eye, face and decolletage) and 1x for applying make-up, (foundation and blusher)

Using my Clarisonic as a make-up applicator has been a game changer, my make-up is always flawless, it looks like it's been airbrushed on.

  1. Discovering colour corrector - high impact for relatively low cost.

I was contemplating travelling to Scotland for tear trough fillers! However since discovering Nars colour corrector all of those thoughts have disappeared.

Now, I always look bright- eyed and bushy tailed! Only a tiny and I mean infinitesimal amount is needed, to achieve a big effect. I use an eye liner brush to apply a thin line of product to a very specific area of my face.

These two videos explain very well how and where to apply:

Hope something in here proves useful!

@1000yellowdaisies @GlamorousHeifer

any recommendations for fake tan?

sjxoxo · 08/05/2022 06:08

Led light mask instantly makes me look 5 years younger

AliceAbsolum · 08/05/2022 08:05

Shoulders back, chin up.

I know it's not a make up tip, but if you want to feel and look healthy/confident, then posture is key.

MayBeee · 08/05/2022 08:10

For those of you contemplating trying Retinol / Tretonin , if in the UK it's only available via prescription from a few places , Dermatica being one of them.
if you fancy a look / trial here's my code www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/V3WPNY
It gives you first month for postage only and then 25% off for 2nd month , gives me 25% off as well. I'm on it due to being given code off a mumsnetter as so far ( month 2 ) is going ok.

Yamyam13 · 08/05/2022 08:48

This great, i'm glad I started this thread 😊

I like the tip about posture, it is SO overlooked.

One little wierd tip I once got from somewhere online, was to wet your eyelashes before you curl them... I now do it everytime I swear it helps and I have super straight stubborn lashes that dont stay curled for very long but this does help.

Summersdreaming · 08/05/2022 08:51

I used to warm eyelash curlers with a hairdryer before using them, 10 x better results! Be very careful though, warm not hot!!

Yamyam13 · 08/05/2022 08:51

Also, what is everyone's experience or thoughts on 'contouring' ?

As I said, i don't wear much make up, very light look, just tinted moisturiser, a little under eye concealer, bronzer/blush, and a lick of mascara

But I am intruiged by contouring, or 'nontouring' as I feel my face is losing definition, would love to accentuate (manufacture?!) some cheek bones!

Also, lots of reccs for Fake Tan, I like skinny tan, but would love your reccs.

Fake tan scares me.

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/05/2022 09:44

I use Skinny Tan coconut mist. Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is great if you want instant colour and it really doesn't transfer onto clothes, etc. You don't have to restrict it to legs either.

@Want2beme The Ordinary are very good & one of the most reasonably priced! X

Just noticed I typed microwaving instead of microblading in my last post😳😂

Thanks a million, sjxoxo . I've used their products before. Today, I've ordered

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane - 30ml

The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%, as recommended by a youtuber who says he's 57, but looks late 30s early 40s. Not saying he isn't, just green with envy as I age rapidly and I'm a year younger than him😭

planetme · 08/05/2022 19:42

I am 42 and I must admit have Botox every 9 months and a small amount of lip filler every couple years. But non surgical I absolutely swear by my gua sha Jade massager I do it every morning for five mins (I set my timer) with coconut oil it just makes me look better somehow. I suppose it increases blood flow
I also had a lvl lash lift and tint a few weeks ago which was fab

Also - Really good brows can be a game changer. but I may be biased as I'm a microblading and semi permanent make up artist 😅
