How much would you expect this meal to cost?

I'm not sure if I'm a bit unrealistic with my expectation here so I thought I'd see what wise Mumsnetters think!

We had a meal out at popular chain Italian restaurant. We ordered:

4 x main meals (3 x pizzas and 1 x pasta dish)
1 x meal from child menu (pasta dish)
4 x soft drinks (3 x Coca Cola, 1 x Sprite)

No starters, no desserts, no alcoholic drinks.

What would you roughly expect the total of the bill to be? (Not London if that makes a difference?!)

Zizzis is overpriced processed expensive food!

No cooking involved, pre packaged rubbish.

So expensive OP!

Agree! We won't be going again! The prices have gone right up...

About £60 ish ....depends on pizza topping !

GnomeDePlume · 06/05/2022 06:36

@Sofielou I wonder if what you have been caught out by is the multiplier effect.

I remember a single colleague once telling me that I should take DCs to see some show as the tickets were only £50 each.

She was shocked when I told her that would cost us (a family of 5) £250 plus travel costs, food etc. She was only thinking of the cost per head.

Tornado70 · 06/05/2022 06:40

£85

TortolaParadise · 06/05/2022 06:41

£90 - £100

LethargeMarg · 06/05/2022 06:47

Most main meals are about £15 now in high st restaurants (I don't go to expensive ones by the way !) so im thinking x4 meals = 60 plus £8 kids meal soft drinks another £10 easily so around £80??

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 06/05/2022 06:52

My guess was about £90 so you got a bargain Wink

Yep, going out is expensive!

Searchfornessie · 06/05/2022 06:55

I actually think the pizzas in Zizzi’s are pretty good and they are huge! Definitely don’t need one each!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/05/2022 07:03

i was going to say £70 but of course prices have increased.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/05/2022 07:04

soft drinks are expensive

IvorCutler · 06/05/2022 07:05

And man alive, people do like to write essays here, and it’s so sanctimonious and argumentative.

👍🏻

I still can't get past the fact that some people study the menu to such an extent that they can automatically tot up the bill when the table places their order. That's some skill. Especially whilst wrestling with a toddler who doesn't want to be in her high chair 😂

Those still guessing - I updated already: £75.

cookiemonster2468 · 06/05/2022 07:10

Would have expected it to be around £75 to be honest.

But why go to Zizzi's when you can go to a proper Italian restaurant and pay around the same?

Find a local, smaller restaurant that is not a chain. The food will be a lot better and not from a freezer.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 06/05/2022 07:11

i would have gone to somewhere with a deal on

Mooserp · 06/05/2022 07:12

My guess was £55. I haven't eaten out in a long time!

Zonder · 06/05/2022 07:15

I wouldn't look at all the prices, just glance for a general overview.

Bella Italia is in the same vein as Zizzi so if we want a simple meal out like that we go to BI with Tesco vouchers. Paid £20 last time for 4 of us. That makes it all feel better.

It wasn't planned - more an ad hoc last minute thing whilst out in a busy shopping centre on bank holiday Monday (and the only place we could get in without a 2 hour wait).

We tried here - 2 hour wait for a table 😭

no wonder there was no queue op!
you live and learn
i have also been put off by zizzi's prices

stuntbubbles · 06/05/2022 07:31

Sofielou · 05/05/2022 23:03

Wow quite a bit of variation already!

So I was expecting closer to £60 ... it was £75. Each main was £14 ish, child meal £7 and drinks £3 each. I think prices have definitely gone up a lot as I'm sure we wouldn't have paid this much on past occasions. Just took me by surprise a little!

I am DELIGHTED because I did the maths on your OP and calculated bang-on £75. Though I guessed £13 a meal and £4 a drink. Got the child’s meal price right though. ::misses point::

Remember everything’s gone up: energy prices to cook the food, food itself, overheads and sundries, potentially staff wages as hospitality staff are in short supply.
