To think that Boris bringing back the 'Right to buy' scheme from the 80s is a terrible idea

Just this really. I think it's a slap in the face for all those private renters who cannot afford to buy a home, and just a horrible idea.
Boris Johnson mulls a new Right to Buy scheme as housebuilding hits the curb (cityam.com)

Not sure if link above works, but you can google it.
Evidently he is 'mulling over' the idea of bringing back Margaret Thatcher's scheme from the late 80s that decimated this country's council housing stock.
Just wondered what other people thought about it?

Anyone can say they have a social conscience and they want cheaper housing for those who need it but truth is, no one wants social housing near them.

Whatever conscience you have doesn’t actually matter as you don’t do anything to help the problem you allude to so it’s worthless.

Meanwhile, I am proud that I offer affordable housing solutions to the free market of renters out there.

We just need cheaper housing generally. For all. Not just for the poorest in society. Not just social housing. Houses are not actually worth what they're selling for.

I help by not buying up houses as investments. Equals one more house available for people to buy to live in themselves (as long as someone who already has a house to live in doesn't buy it to make money from.)

Zeus44 · 10/05/2022 22:14

Yeah I could but I’m not in the slight least bit bothered about others thinking of me.

You are wholly contradictory in what you say to the point the words are wasteful.

Zeus44 · 10/05/2022 21:48

You can always sell up, buy somewhere cheaper and donate the money to your local housing association to assist others who want subsidised housing whilst doing nothing for themselves.

This would go down amazing on here, you’ll be the star of the week.

Sell up and buy somewhere cheaper? Which would mean taking a more affordable property off the market in that area? If a few of us did that the houses in the cheaper area would just start increasing in price......

Zeus44 · 10/05/2022 22:16

Shudder away. I am glad I do not rent to housing association tenants and never will.

Many will not know this but BTL mortgage companies don’t want HA tenants, it’s a clause of the mortgage agreement.

Seems like there is quite a sticky reputation there.

Zeus44 · 10/05/2022 22:17

Then don’t say something to make you feel better, it’s worthless.

JollyWilloughby · 10/05/2022 22:34

@Zeus44

Ive known plenty of people to buy their council houses and HA homes via the right to buy and right to acquire. That is why I clicked on this thread, it’s nothing new. The option has been there for years, so your “insider knowledge” is quite laughable.

You do you greedy guts. 😂

JollyWilloughby · 10/05/2022 22:46

Proud to offer affordable housing? Yeah right. Judging from your parasitic posts about food and basic shelter not being basic human rights I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Just be yourself and stop pretending to be a nice person offering affordable rents 🤦‍♀️. Probably would respect your posts a bit more then for their sheer honesty.

You don’t mind being a parasite 🦠. Just own it.

mmmmmmghturep · 10/05/2022 23:27

@Zeus44 You do realised the people who delivered your shit during lockdown likely live in social housing.

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 07:18

@mmmmmmghturep

Her entitled undertones of snobbery are evident. So is the “entitled” projection. Also she thinks people should have 3 jobs and apparently she’s “proud” to offer affordable housing.

The delusion is next level but also hilarious.

Why would HA tenants want your property? They’re already living in social housing on a secure tenancy.

If you mean benefit claimants, a test case made that clause in BTL mortgages and insurance policies illegal some time ago and landlords can now be prosecuted for refusing to let to people on benefits. I’m astonished a landlord with numerous properties is so ignorant of tenancy law.

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 07:27

Who is going to prosecute ? It’s not illegal. Impossible to prove discrimination.

Call any agent and ask for rent a privately owned property and say you’re claiming benefits. You won’t even get a look in.

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 07:28

Name calling? Oh shame on you. How childish.

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 07:32

@Zeus44

Me personally I don’t claim benefits but thankfully I count my lucky stars I do not need to rely on people like you. This thread only confirms that for me.

@Zeus44

Name calling? Fairly accurate I would say. We all have choices like you keep banging on about. Just own yours but please don’t proclaim you’re proud to offer affordable housing to rent. You do not. It is no doubt far higher than my rent which is actually affordable.

Wrong. The street behind me is all social housing. I couldn't care less.

You don't care what people think of you but you came on this thread to defend yourself as a landlord. Why do that if you don't care?

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 07:39

Reminds me of next door which is privately rented. Landlady defo the zeuss type. Kept refusing housing benefit, families and dogs! Honestly she had the worst tenants repeatedly. Single people who were an absolute nightmare. I bumped into her once she said she wasn’t having much luck at all.

I said maybe just consider a family who want a quiet life. She actually took my advice and lo and behold the family have been living there very peacefully for years now.

She is a massive twat mind so I’m still a lot more fortunate than them, but at least they’re not getting moved every 5 minutes.

The house next door to me (attached semi) is privately rented. It went for £725pm. So "affordable" for people on low wages. My mortgage for exactly the same size house is £300pm.

The landlord lives in a different city and the garden is a shit state.

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 11:42

The mortgage doesn’t take into account repairs and maintenance, nor does it account for the legislative costs such as gas safety checks, electrical testing etc etc.

Compare apples with bananas and you’ll end up one.

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 11:44

@Zeus44

Even with that factored in you’re not charging affordable rent. Please stop making out you are it’s embarrassing.

You’re making huge profit at the expense of other peoples misery, just own it.

Are you getting confused with people that claim housing benefit and people who live in housing association houses ,you do realise that many people pay their own rent 🤔?
And I many parts of the country there is no discernable difference between private rent and social rent.

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 11:48

I know I am. I’m happy to be.

Sorry must run, homes under the hammer is on….

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 11:48

Not market rate tho, subsidised by the taxes I pay.

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 11:52

@Zeus44

Tara 👋. At least you’ve stopped pretending to be a good person.

Zeus44 · 11/05/2022 11:55

Laughable what your view of a good person is, if I even cared what you thought that is.

back to the thread in question, no right to buy. Give long term tenancies to key workers, that’s it.

Everyone else can join MN and talk about entitlement all day.

JollyWilloughby · 11/05/2022 11:58

@Zeus44

I thought you were leaving 😂 🎣. Laughable to you because you’re morally bankrupt anyway so that’s not at all surprising.

Also I think you care very, very much what people think.
