Was this unreasonable?

Okay. Today I was on a plane to Ireland from the UK, where masks aren’t mandated. So, I got on, settled on and I didn’t have my mask. I got told that I need to put my mask on, I said sorry, I don’t have one. Any spares? They said they didn’t have any, so I left it and a couple of minutes later the attendant came over and told me that I need to wear my mask otherwise they’ll kick me off. I was extremely confused, explained I was happy to wear a mask but they’re not mandated and had no way of knowing I had to bring one, and there are no spares provided. So, I went around asking half of the plane for a mask, eventually got one. But I ended up arguing anyway. Conversation as follows.
Me: if you’re going to kick people off for not wearing masks, surely you should provide spares?
1: I wasn’t going to kick you off.
Me: The other one threaten to.
1: And she had every right to. You were refusing to wear a mask!
me: I had no access to one?
so. Was I unreasonable?

If you think masks are necessary - why did you not have one?

If you don't think masks are necessary - why are you happy to be ordered to wear one?

unReasonable - no need to add to the confusion and hysteria about covid policies. I just go with the flow and try to be at peace.

And surely the staff have spare masks for themselves on a flight!

I really don't think it's the responsibility of Ryanair staff to pay out of their own pocket for masks for passengers like OP . Sure there was only one on that flight, but if they produced a free mask my guess is others would claim not to have a mask either.
The airline staff have enough to do without being everyone's free mammy, and are doubtless not paid enough to take on that responsibility either.

You're right OP, they should be carrying spares. I guess it's a reminder to all of us to still always have one to hand.

I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would go on a plane without a mask on!!

I'd do it, I'm sound of mind.

WiseRobin · 02/05/2022 18:21

@rookiemere meaning the company they work for surely provide the staff with masks and spares for the flight.

This should have been relayed at the boarding check in. Boarding card given once mask is in place.

WiseRobin · 02/05/2022 18:25

How much would the company lose if they didn’t take off on their designated time slot because they had to offload a customer? Surely it would be cheaper to buy a box of disposal masks?

KarmaStar · 02/05/2022 18:38

😂op I'll give it to you,you don't give in easily!

Maybebabyno2 · 02/05/2022 18:48

I would have just pulled my tshirt up over my face. It's exactly the same thing.
