to ask Christians about dinosaurs...

This is a serious question - so I have been thinking a lot lately about whether God exists, the meaning of life and why is the world in such a terrible state... been thinking about going to church but still feel I am on the fence. One question which has really got me thinking (after watching dear old David Attenborough... ) is where do dinosaurs fit into all this. Sorry if this sounds very weird but I would love to hear an explanation!

@Pumperthepumper So where is the evidence the books are authentic then? I must have missed that part. All I have been told are some people wrote a series of books, but there is nothing to back this up as fact? just hearsay.

What evidence would you like? What do you mean by 'authentic'? If you want proof that God spoke through the people who wrote it then you won't find it. That's kind of where faith comes in. If you have it, then the Bible is real and meaningful. If you dont then it's not. I don't really get what you're trying to achiever here.

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/04/2022 20:12

What do you mean by not authentic? They are real, authentic books written by real people and collated into an anthology (the bible) by a group of bishops in the 5 century@shabbaboot.

Did you really think Gospel of Mark was written by god? Gospel of Luke, that was god too and the Letters from Peter, yep, not Peter, written by god.😂😂😂

shabbaboot · 29/04/2022 20:12

Pumperthepumper · 29/04/2022 20:06

Well, someone must have written them for them to exist.

I'm not denying some one wrote a series of books, obviously they did but people wrote books for centuries and told many tales and fables. But if no one knows who wrote them, then how do you know the wording was anything to do with god. I mean to know that you would have to know who instructed them to write them on gods behalf and how they knew what to put in them, you would need some form of authenticity the content and the instruction was from god or known by god or else they are just fables like any other books.

If you don't know an author you cannot say where the content came from or even quantify how it was asked for.

Staggersaurus · 29/04/2022 20:12

There are 31.5 million Christians in the UK only about 6,000 people in the UK believe dinosaurs don’t exist because the they take the bible literally

My local shyster Tory MP is one of the 6,000 who doesn’t believe in dinosaurs. He is a staunch creationist, totally bonkers. It’s the least damaging of the crap he touts.

Yes, that’s the faith part. That doesn’t make it inauthentic as a religious text.

It is not a complex issue. Dinosaurs fit in the area of rule breaking. The rule was that we were not go digging for answers. Literally, God told us not to dig. So, that tells us he has stuff he doesn't want to explain.

This wouldn’t have been written by a God.

If God was real he would want people to go digging for answers to prove his existence.

It was obviously written by someone who fabricated somethings and didn’t want anyone to find out the truth so they said digging for answers is a sin which is madness.

Pumperthepumper · 29/04/2022 20:14

And I also don’t see what difference it would make to the authenticity of the book if the answer was ‘oh, Steve wrote it’. What difference does it make?

Ah, but you can't say that, because it's sinful!

What was the point of dinosaurs? I mean, if God created them, what was the point if he was just going to send something to wipe them out? I wish I had faith.

I think Caravaggio summed it up ...

They weren't just wiped out after a couple of weeks.
They were like us - we'll be extinct eventually.

Bertrand just disappeared one day Pumper. I didn't see a flounce or a goodbye.

hedgehogger1 · 29/04/2022 20:21

I was at uni (science degree) with someone who said they were just there to test unbelievers

stripeyflowers · 29/04/2022 20:21

No one would need faith if they had good, demonstrative evidence for their belief.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/04/2022 20:22

I’m asking if he was a man who people believe was capable of miracles.

Yes, that is what Christians believe (well, not a man, God and man).

To be honest I don't have a clue who or what Gospel of Mark, Gospel of Luke, Letters from Peter are were because so far I have seen no evidence to suggest any thing to do with the bible was sourced from gods mouth. Its just a case of you have to believe it as fact because we say so.

At least with dinosaurs their remains it can be carbon dated and scientifically analysed, they did not exist just because some one says so. 😂

XenoBitch · 29/04/2022 20:22

Lots of Jehovah Witness folks in my family. I was told dinosaurs were just outright fake.

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/04/2022 20:23

@LauraNicolaides, not Carravaggio, god painted it.😆

I just don't get how they fit into the story. We are here, supposedly, to follow God and be saved. What were dinosaurs here for?

Pumperthepumper · 29/04/2022 20:24

The bible could be dated though.

I have a theory that God actually did create a book and the dinosaurs ate it, so he created a meteor to wipe them out. then he created a load of unknown people to write a group of books again as he could not be bothered to do it all again. 🤔

No one has to believe it as fact, and thank you for sharing your complete lack of knowledge with the group.😆
