to ask Christians about dinosaurs...

This is a serious question - so I have been thinking a lot lately about whether God exists, the meaning of life and why is the world in such a terrible state... been thinking about going to church but still feel I am on the fence. One question which has really got me thinking (after watching dear old David Attenborough... ) is where do dinosaurs fit into all this. Sorry if this sounds very weird but I would love to hear an explanation!

It is not a complex issue. Dinosaurs fit in the area of rule breaking. The rule was that we were not go digging for answers. Literally, God told us not to dig. So, that tells us he has stuff he doesn't want to explain. So, it is either proof that he does not exist or that you can continue to believe with the skeptical magnifying glass or not. Its that simple.

@3ormorecharacters Thank you for letting me know no one knows who wrote it. So then it has no authenticity as I thought.

But what does puzzle me is "No-one thinks God literally wrote it because (as covered above)- no hands.". So God created the universe and all life on earth with no hands! But he could not write a simple book?

He did apparently write (or at least engrave) the decalogue on two tablets of stone on Mount Sinai.

@Jonny1265 , the official Catholic line is that only humans have souls.

The official Catholic line is homosexuality is intrinsically disordered but it doesn't make that right either.

girlmom21 · 29/04/2022 19:57

@Pumperthepumper like I said, I think a man called Jesus existed. I don't think he was the son of God. I think he was either a scam artist or a very good illusionist. But I'm not religious.

shabbaboot · 29/04/2022 19:57

@Pumperthepumper Back to god with no hands though, he can create all these marvellous things with no hands, and I will grant you its hard to write a series of books with no hands. But then again why did he need t others to write the books, when he can have just create them just like every thing else?

This would be far more practical and would save a lot of time and even stopped a lot of wars in the future!

They must be blooming big tablets, where are they now. Let me guess no one has found them?

TheWayoftheLeaf · 29/04/2022 19:59

I learned about Christianity as a child from my devout science teacher (and family friend). He believed in intelligent design. Aka God made the dinos too

Try posting this sort of thing on the relationships board. LTB is the usual advice.

Right, but that doesn’t make the bible less authentic.

StoneofDestiny · 29/04/2022 20:01

According to my childhood Catholic friend their bones and fossils were put there to confuse us

That's a new one - and certainly not part of Catholic or mainstream Catholic teaching.
Being a Catholic doesn't preclude people from talking nonsense. Childhood is usually when people make things up when they can't explain things.

I've been reading the thread with interest.
My answer to the question of how dinosaurs fit in the Christian belief-

"That would be an ecumenical matter".

Moses conveniently smashed them up as I recall!

But lots of people don't believe they're God's teachings

shabbaboot · 29/04/2022 20:03

@Pumperthepumper So where is the evidence the books are authentic then? I must have missed that part. All I have been told are some people wrote a series of books, but there is nothing to back this up as fact? just hearsay.

Well, someone must have written them for them to exist.

Where is Bertrand? I haven’t seen them around for ages!

It is a bit hilarious that an actual young-earth creationist turned up a couple pages ago, and the people keenest to sneer at young-earth creationists still haven't noticed.

LauraNicolaides · 29/04/2022 20:08

We're to busy sneering at the rest 😁

GoldenOmber · 29/04/2022 20:09

Righty-o, then.

The best scientists in the world know what happened 0.001(or a much smaller figure) after the universe came into existence, no one has found what caused the initial spark. This leaves room for God.

No one knows how God defines a day. The universe and earth evolved over millennia. Evolution fits within this.

The bible was written c2000 years ago. It should be read in that context.

I believe Christianity and evolution are not incomparable.

I don't understand this

What do you mean by 'authentic?'

And how does the fact that people have written it have any bearing on whether it's true or the word of god?
