Anyone applied for a new children's passport recently?

I left 12 weeks between application and travel but am now feeling a bit stressed out.

How long did it take for you to receive them?

And also on the tracking website, what's the next step after documents received?

Thank you.

You should be ok. At the moment they have a system whereby you can email the upgrades office two weeks before your travel date and they will fast track it for you. Apparently it’s not a guaranteed service but they try to help. I have just done this. Call the Passport Office to arrange, option 8 then 3. Let me know if you’d like more details.
If you try to cancel the application and then rebook Fast Track they say it can take weeks and weeks for the cancellation request letter to arrive, so this isn’t really an option. Hope that helps

@Newmummy9 would you be able to send these details on for me please?

I've received an update of documents received today (child's renewal) but with only a clear 10 weeks until travel date I want to be prepared in case it does turn out I've cut it too fine.

Many thanks in advance!

I’ve tried to send you a PM but it doesn’t let me for some reason. I’m not great on this site. Could you send me a message and I’ll reply with the details.

One of mine has now been approved and is being printed, the other (exactly the same application except a different child) they raised a query and I'm waiting to have it approved.

I've been so worried but once they look at it, it does seem to happen fairly quickly.

Ordered a new new one in March, mucked the photo up so was processed in April with new one, received 2 weeks after the new photo was approved. Probably 8 weeks in total with me passing about with the pictures.

Partyofthree · 07/05/2022 18:33

Think the 2 passports I’ve sent off have been lost by Royal Mail! Tracker says they haven’t moved from going to Midlands post office depot since last bloody Saturday (live in SE London) 🤯😤😫

clarasara · 07/05/2022 18:36

Mine were sent 3 weeks ago and docs still showing as not been received even though I know they have them as recorded. It is really hot and miss at the moment so best to apply early.

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/05/2022 15:45

Mine has updated to show documents received nearly 2 weeks after the royal mail said they had been delivered .

Update: finally received DS's first passport this afternoon - 10 weeks after applying.

Feel utterly relieved that we can go away.

My advice to anyone in the same situation would be to keep hassling them and contact your local MP to get them involved.

Partyofthree · 11/05/2022 10:41

Old passports have been received at passport office! 🎉 8 days after they were ‘suppose’ to be received by special delivery. Will wait to how the long the next part of the process takes….

worriedparent12 · 11/05/2022 10:43

We were lucky and were able to get a fast track appointment in Peterborough yesterday. Cost us extra, but passport will arrive by Tuesday latest.

Onlyrainbows · 11/05/2022 10:48

Can anybody shed some light on why would they be asking for marriage certificates when parents are divorced?

Phew.

Is that 10 weeks after submitting application or sending docs?

Received my child's renewed passport today.

Application was submitted online, office was Peterborough. The timeline was 3 1/2 weeks from original submission of the application on 17 April.

Hope all works out for everyone else! @Newmummy9 - many thanks for your advice it was much appreciated.

Now for the visa waivers ...

lancsgirl85 · 12/05/2022 09:53

I made my application for my toddler's first passport on 23rd March. I had an email saying documents received on 6th April. I had an email saying photo was unsuitable and I needed to provide a new one on 22nd April. I uploaded a new photo on 5th May. I got an email saying application was approved on 9th May. I got an email this morning (12th May) saying its out for delivery today.

7 weeks from first application to receiving (assuming it arrives today as per the email), but with a delay in the middle due to the photo being unsuitable. I'm not sure sure why it took them 4.5 weeks to tell me the first photo was unsuitable, but there you go. We got there in the end!

lancsgirl85 · 12/05/2022 09:58

Oh and there was also just under a 2 week delay before I uploaded the new photo, so obviously things would have been a bit quicker if I'd not taken so long to do that!

Crof · 02/06/2022 10:21

this is sooooo stressful. I applied for a first adult passport using post office check n send three weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. It’s like playing chicken! Flying beginning of July.

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/06/2022 12:32

I received DDs passport last week. Took just over a month.

CaveMum · 08/06/2022 12:20

Finally after 11 weeks and 2 days, I got the “application approved” email for both of my DC last night.

Might be a coincidence but I fired off numerous emails over the weekend to the various passport offices so that must have kicked them into action.

highly recommend joining the “Passport Chaos 2022” group on Facebook for advice for those still waiting.

Crof · 20/06/2022 17:22

Please could you post the details of who to call here please- or message me directly. Thank you so much

TessBeth · 20/06/2022 17:52

I sent off for two 8 weeks ago. Just got a text today saying one of them is being printed.

CaveMum · 21/06/2022 10:18

@Crof

The emails to use are (using Peterborough as an example):
[email protected]
[email protected]

Just replace the passport office name in each email (Liverpool, Durham, London, Newport, etc)

You can also email a generic email which is: [email protected]

The expedited service team won't even look at your application unless you have been waiting more than 10 weeks or if you are travelling in the next 2 weeks.

Dontstoprunning · 21/06/2022 11:58

Just got my upgrade call for my sons renewal, had to pay £102 despite the fact that it wouldn't have been here in 10 weeks anyway. Just so relieved we can go away, I actually cried 😭

Crof · 22/06/2022 00:18

Thank you.
mum going to get on it
