Anyone applied for a new children's passport recently?

I left 12 weeks between application and travel but am now feeling a bit stressed out.

How long did it take for you to receive them?

And also on the tracking website, what's the next step after documents received?

Thank you.

@obsessedwithsleep sent to office Redgrave Court, Bootle.

Just had a text this morning saying "it's printed and it will be transferred to their delivery supplier in the next few days. When it's ready for delivery, they will contact me with a tracking reference."

So you applied after me and got approved more quickly. What a shambles. Glad for you though!

I also renewed my passport due to name change in late Feb/March this year and it took just under 6 weeks. The courrier put it straight through my letter box on the first attempt. It did take a while to be delivered though and there was no update from the courrier for over a week but it took just under two weeks to be delivered.

I started child application on March 21st, ID approved March 28th and docs received April 11th. Passport approved Wednesday. And printed today. Fingers crossed it will arrive soonish.

Fingers crossed for you. When do you fly ?
We're flying to Italy end of July.

Had to do DS's as new as we'd changed his name (he wanted my surname as a middle name like his dad changed his to!) - took about 5 weeks end to end in autumn.

It's doom and gloom for those of us who applied ages ago and still haven't had any updates despite spending hours a day on the phone to them.

@cigarettesNalcohol we fly on 10 June. Applied 24 March but my friend was slow to confirm ID so application submitted on 4 April - that's 9.5 weeks to when we're due to fly so I'm really hoping that we'll be OK. From your timeliness it seems we might be but it's so stressful! I'm desperate to go on this holiday!

Another restless night stressing about this blinking passport. From experience are the tracking updates real time or are there delays with that. Has anyone managed to get a reply from the online query form?

Yes are pretty accurate. When I chased up my child’s passport and got it expediated, it suddenly changed to application approved and then said passport printed a few hours later.

Bubblepanda · 29/04/2022 16:44

Thanks @Newmummy9 you have given me a little hope. Honestly it's ridiculous I am getting to the can't eat, can't sleep stage. I managed to speak to a lovely gentleman this morning who has put a request in to Newport office for someone to look at the progress. He couldn't promise when I will hear back but I was hoping it may trigger some movement.

When are you travelling? I’ve just been to Newport today to pick up my child’s passport, I applied on 30th March and then suddenly got into a panic it wouldn’t be ready for ages so have spent the last two weeks really chasing them. Totally depends who you get on the phone. I emailed the Newport upgrade team and didn’t hear anything so assumed they were too busy to respond but when I rang to chase yesterday they said there was a note on my son’s application and said they promised they’d have it ready for me to collect today, which they did deliver on!! If you’d like any more specific details about getting it fast tracked do PM me.
Good luck. X

I think they’re only prioritising those who are travelling imminently. I had to provide proof that my flight was within two weeks.

So apparently Peterborough still haven't received the documents. Sent them on Wednesday morning 1st class signed for. They should be there by now.

I'd track it but lost the receipt lol.

Found the receipt and they got it on 28th but haven't updated the online thingy.

Apparently it can take 14 working days for them to get around to scanning it in and updating the system. I was told not to ring them until 14 days was past and only then would they view it as lost.

chillidoritto · 30/04/2022 22:33

DD's renewal took 3 weeks. Ours went to Bootle.

TheTeddyBears · 30/04/2022 22:34

We did ours start of feb when it was I assume a bit quieter. It took about 4ish weeks for renewals and 5 wks for dd first passport.

Ours (2x child first passport) went to Peterborough too. It took 10 days from actual receipt (sent recorded delivery so I know when they arrived) before they updated online to say they had received them.

Both have been “being processed” since 7 April 😤

Thankfully we don’t go away till start of August so plenty of time, but annoying all the same.

Its a manual process of matching the documents to the application, thats why theres a delay in them receiving the documents and then updating the system. There's such a backlog of mail to open I think.

RupertTheCat · 30/04/2022 22:55

Sent a child renewal to Peterborough and it’s been really quick so far. I posted the documents 20/04 and they marked them as received 28/04 and passport was approved 29/04. Waiting for them to print it and post it now.

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/04/2022 23:03

Thanks for the replies! Too many to quote lol. We go on 10th September so hoping that it's back in time

Apologies for gate crashing the thread - but I need to get a renewal for my 6 year old and a new passport for my 19 months old...was going to send now as we travel in December.....but husband and I are travelling to Italy for one day in July and obviously need our passports. So do we have to send ours off for the new passport for daughter number 2? Or do they just need passport numbers? Sorry to ask.

I didn’t have to send my passport for two of my children’s first passports, just passport numbers
