AIBU to think that not all Conservative MP's are a total disaster when it comes to biological reality?

Good evening all,

Today I joined Mumsnet as it has been featured in the news for various reasons, most noticeably that it allows a free flow of views and opinions with regard to todays most "controversial" hot topics. I have on occasion dipped into some of the conversations (as a non-participant observer), such as the threads on Ukraine and some within the feminist forum, however I have not felt the need to join the forum until today.

The reason I joined today is due to a response I received from my local Conservative MP which I would like to share with you.

Over the last few months in particular I have noticed a disturbing theme from some politicians with regard to what constitutes a man or a woman, in light of this I wrote to my MP to ask his definition of a woman and if he thought that women could have a penis as this notion seems to be pushed within the media.

For some time now I have been watching various news items with regard to the new trend of " transgenderism" - I place this word advisedly in inverted commas as there seems to be some dissent as to what this word actually means. In my world view, there used to be transsexuals and transvestites, these words seem to have been combined into an overarching definition which seems to confuse the issue.

Anyhow suffice to say this new trend has caused me some concern particularly when it comes to the apparent safeguarding issues with regard to children and young adults. I attach the response from my MP

AIBU to think that not all Conservative politicians are a total disaster when it comes to biological reality?

I will never vote Tory and am sure the lines are being drawn in the hope for votes. However it is quite refreshing to hear them come out and say they know what a woman is. However my admiration of this is somewhat tempered by the fawning over a man who might be trans who has several seedy activities on record, presumably to garner votes of the TWAW lot. Feel utterly betrayed by some of the Labour Party , the SNP and the other parties also who should know better and who do not seem aware that they are losing womens’ votes. This ideology is seriously beginning to affect our lives. The fact that some of us are even considering voting for the Tories is very worrying indeed, but it certainly reflects how strongly we feel about this particular issue.

They havent come out and said that though, when Johnson was asked 'who has a cervix?' he refused to answer but said men dont belong in womens sport, while on the other hand and being dismissed is what Reeves had to say because right wing posters (not referring to the pp I quoted here as being one) have a vested interest in keeping the right wing in power

Rachel Reeves, shadow chancellor:

The Equality Act explicitly – and we wouldn’t change that – says that there should be places for people, where necessary, for people of a biological sex.

I'm really disappointed with how gullible Mumsnetters are being with this issue.

Some Tory strategist has worked out they can secure a boatload of votes by pretending to care about gender I.D. in sports , and with no sense of shame putting itself forward ss the party for 'real women'.

That a lot of you on here are prepared to fall for this, and forget all the disgusting damaging things they have done to the country is pretty hard to take.

But here we are, a thread started to praise a Tory M.P. .

Have you even checked their overall voting record on other matters?

People in general have bad memories and even worse critical thinking. It's no surprise that the tory party can manipulate the majority of them into believing they are the best party.

Labour is not the best either. None of them are any good. But they are the lesser of two evils and are less likely to leave people struggling to eat and heat their homes. The tories will be having banquets laughing about the poor people struggling and how we voted them back in again. It's almost a comedy sketch, except no comedy and it's actually true.

It does beg the question why some Labour strategist couldn't have figured out the same.

This is probably the only subject the Tories have my backing on. I can’t vote for them because they’re Tories but I agree with them wholeheartedly on this.

Jamie Wallis is the biggest joke of all tbh. It’s total political spin to throw the ‘I’m trans but still refer to me as a man’ in the mix of him running away from a crash.

Mumoblue · 29/04/2022 09:33

Hahahah you absolutely sound like a Tory shill.
I don’t give a fuck about the Tories opinion on gender. They’re useless in practice, and I have to worry about other things that the Tories are massively in favour of. Like being in poverty.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 29/04/2022 10:04

THIS.

They arent silly, they say what people want to hear to get them the vote.

NHS Bus anyone?

The fact is, they have been in power for over a decade and the issues that come up regarding self ID/transwomen in womens prisons ARE HAPPENING UNDER A TORY GOVERNMENT.

Colourmeclear · 29/04/2022 20:22

Is this a political party broadcast?

Just in case commentators have not noticed, I will not be making further responses on this thread as it is fairly evident that the main reason for individuals to make comment is to insult me for sharing a positive response from my local MP. Feel free to think what you will, but bear in mind that not all regions are having local elections. May I also remind commentators that local elections are concerned with regional councils and/or local mayoral elections, they have very little to do with a General Election which is a different thing entirely. Suffice to say that as a new person on Mumsnet, the welcome I have received is far from what I had anticipated - indeed positively hostile and as such will probably not bother to make any further comment on any other threads or start any further discussions - it is obvious that unless one joins the "group think" then mum's such as myself are not welcome.

Messaged our two local lib dem candidates about this.

Asked them if they were my local councillor and the local pool wanted to allow male bodied people into the changing room with my teenage daughter, what would they do. One said he fully concurs with the govt policy and there are more important discrimination issues and trans women are all lovely (I paraphrase!). Other said he's a fan of JKR and that such a situation shouldn't be allowed and he would stand up against it. Wonder who is getting my vote.....!

BishyBarnyBee · 29/04/2022 21:43

I understand why people haven't welcomed your first mumsnet post with sympathetic open arms, it does read a bit like a tory strategist's bright idea to sweep up a few mumsnet votes, especially so close to the local elections.

Boris Johnson's sexual politics are awful - using girly swot as an insult, suggesting Muslim women went to university to get married, referring to gay men as bumboys, referring to historic sexual abuse investigations as "spaffing it up against a wall". There is not a principled bone in his body or a conviction that cannot be overturned if it will further his career.

I think the Labour party are starting to realise that TWAW doesn't work in many situations. The ramifications of self ID are starting to dawn. But they were the party of gay rights when the Tories were thinking up Section 28. They won't just chuck trans people under the bus - they will try to find a compromise in what is, for most people who don't identify with either extreme of the debate, a complicated issue of balancing two competing sets of rights. It will take time and will be messy but I believe they will try to find a principled way through rather than appeal to the lowest common denominator.

If you are a single issue feminist and this is the hill that you want to die on, you will vote Tory. But you will do it at a huge cost to the vast majority of the British public, including most women, who have been royally screwed over by this government for the past 12 years.

Such a defeatist attitude OP, shouldn't you stay and fight your corner.
