My house is 19 degrees today and I’m freezing!

I’m guessing I’m freezing as we’ve had some nice warm weather and I’ve got used to being warm but I’m so cold today. Dreading the winter when it will be colder and can’t have the heating on as much!

19 degrees is a lovely, warm temperature. I'd be worried about my heating bills too if I thought that temp was too cold!

FourTeaFallOut · 27/04/2022 18:15

I had to put the heating on for quite some time to get it to 19c. It's bloody freezing here. I'm back to my big winter coat.

OfstedOffred · 27/04/2022 18:15

Lightand

No but the passages in your nose help to warm the air.

Thus how people manage to live comfortably in countries much colder than the UK

I always say I am a 21.5 degree person

Me too. Husband doesn't feel the cold so we have compromised at thermostat at 20. Heating on 7 til 10 in morning and 5 to 10 in evening. I light the stoves if it's cold. Lots of the firewood is free. I say yes to anything flammable

romany4 · 27/04/2022 18:16

It's 8 degrees in West Yorkshire.
I've had my heating on twice today. I'm cold

No one will die at 19 degrees.

I usually realise in a cold snap at this time of year that I'm not wearing enough and need to layer back up.

I was cold first thing but added slippers and a jumper then was fine

Exactly.

Unbelievable that so many people think they're suffering some sort of human rights atrocity because it's not 20+ degrees in their house.

There's a fuel cost crisis and a climate emergency but woe betide anyone suggesting putting a sweater on.

🙄

Inextremis · 27/04/2022 18:18

No heating on here in the west of Ireland - it's (apparently) 14 degrees outside, and 21.5 in here, with the windows open. I guess I must be radiating menopausal heat or something (actually have the oven on, cooking dinner). I'm happy in just a T-shirt and leggings.

YerAWizardHarry · 27/04/2022 18:22

19 degrees is what our thermostat is set at when our heating is “on”. I’m in the North East of Scotland and have a blanket on my lap but nothing more than my work clothes on other than that

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 27/04/2022 18:38

I had my fleecy pjs and socks on plus the electric blanket and the heating on around half an hour the other night and I was still freezing cold

luxxlisbon · 27/04/2022 18:52

19 inside is definitely not a ‘lovely and warm’ temperature to me either!

I would be cold in a big jumper, fluffy socks and a blanket at that temperature.

Notcontent · 27/04/2022 19:09

I have been feeling really cold too and have just put the heating in.

I get a bit annoyed by people who say “just put a jumper on”. I am already wearing a thermal top, a jumper, tracksuit bottoms and Ugg boot slippers.

orangetriangle · 27/04/2022 19:12

19 is too cold for me in our old bungalow

Rootes · 27/04/2022 19:14

I don't think you can compare thermostat temperatures without knowing size and plan of house. 19 degrees might be nice and warm in a smallish house. BT at last visit advised we set our temp to 23-23.5 degrees if we wanted to feel any warmth. I think most average sized homes will require 22 degrees to warm up.
The temp has really dropped today, and my nose is freezing cold, my chest is also starting to constrict a little, a reaction I get when breathing air that is really cold. Checked the temp and it's 22 degrees! I've ramped it up by half a degree and my breathing has started to feel much easier already.

Svara · 27/04/2022 19:17

My sitting room is currently 15 and a perfectly comfortable jeans and hoodie temperature. I had the thermostat at 17 until this year, then 16 in January, down to 15 in February and off in March. I think we've just acclimatised!

tomatorich112 · 27/04/2022 19:19

I'm still wearing a vest, merino thin jumper plus cashmere jumper. 19 is fine if i'm moving about. if i'm sitting still I have a dressing gown or blanket. My windows are open a crack too.

PinkSyCo · 27/04/2022 19:24

I mean it’s definitely turned cooler but 19 degrees isn’t freezing! My thermostat is set to less than that in the winter! 🤣

poshme · 27/04/2022 19:26

Part of the problem is the clothes people wear. A T-shirt and cotton jumper aren't warm enough. Jeans aren't really very warm. I'm far warmer in fleece lined tights and a short skirt than in jeans.

My heating is off. House is 18.5 and I'm fine moving around, but put a blanket over my legs for sitting still.

mommybear1 · 27/04/2022 19:30

Really cold today but due to rising gas costs we have opted for our log burner - felt odd as we had some bursts of sunshine but it's taken the chill off now my DS4 was thrilled he loves a good fire 🔥😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/04/2022 19:31

Def colder today. Yesterday was lovely and sunny. T shirt in garden playing with dd

today it’s cold and put heating on for an hour

Sexnotgender · 27/04/2022 19:32

Come hang out in my house for a bit, it’s around 14/15 then you’ll feel lovely and toasty when you get home.

I wear a warm fluffy dressing gown on top of my clothes, that keeps me warmer when needed.

Am always shocked at these threads, at how cold peoples houses are!!!! 17?! In winter?! It’s so chilly! Even WHO recommends 19, more for children and old people.
We have thermo on 20 daytime (21 in winter) and 18 night.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 27/04/2022 19:42

It's because it's overcast. When the sun is pouring through the windows it feels warmer even if the air temperature is exactly the same as on an overcast day.

Riapia · 27/04/2022 19:42

The great MN race to the bottom.

18 at night!! I'd wake up puffy faced with that tropical temperature. Heating off overnight here and bedroom windows open even when it's snowing. Boyfriend hates it!
