Is it justifiable?
As a means to escape?

What makes you think that assaulting someone twice your size will help you to escape? Surely the most likely result will be retaliation or more forceful detention?

If you were unlawfully detained, report the person who did it to the police.

IncompleteSenten · 24/04/2022 16:01

Why on earth do you have to go back? Is this your workplace?

To answer your question you use the minimum amount of force needed to escape.

But before that you should try to leave, shout for help, if you have access to your phone you call the police.

It's really impossible for anyone to even begin to give you meaningful advice because we don't know exactly what happened.

IncompleteSenten · 24/04/2022 16:02

Meant to also say you should call the police (non emergency number) explain what happened and ask their advice.

You say ‘it’s not vague’ when your posts are in fact extremely vague so I’m not sure how anyone here would know the answer since you refuse to give the facts

This is interesting. I am shocked that this isn’t a crime though!

Not a lot of info to go on but by English law, you are able to hit someone with reasonable force if you feel you at risk of a threat level that would be similar or higher. Google law of duress

Were you in a healthcare setting (or anywhere really) when the person detaining you had a concern that if you left you may harm yourself?

gamerchick · 24/04/2022 17:53

You've had a bit of beef with various A&Es recently. I think there's a fair bit you're not saying here OP. We can't advise you.

Sorry I didn't update or reply. I actually reported it to 101 on the advice here and they also advised reporting it to the employer however a police officer called me yesterday and said that he would pass it to the local borough. Things got a little busy after I posted that so I've not been able to check her since. Thanks for the advice. I hate vague threads myself. For no other reason than curiosity. But I appreciate that it's someone's life and that they have their reasons for not sharing everything.
