Is it justifiable?
As a means to escape?

OP posts:

Well you need to give more background, instead of pas-agg replies. Was it a nightclub bouncer? a shop? a hospital? prison? were you there legitimately? Did he speak to you at all?

Have you reported it to the police?

5foot5 · 24/04/2022 12:13

Why do you have to go to this place again? Is it to do with your job or something? If so can you report it to a manager? Or take someone with you? I still don't know why you haven't already gone to the police.

Why post if you aren't going to divulge the details?

Did you think people have patience for your bullshit right now? Change your attitude you sound horrible.

burnoutbabe · 24/04/2022 12:14

if they prevented you leaving, then that could be considered a tort oftrespass against the person - false imprisonment, which isn't a crime but you can sue them for it.

Hont1986 · 24/04/2022 12:15

I suppose is it reasonable to incapacitate your captor in order to flee?

No, not necessarily. You can't smack someone in the head with a baseball bat, knocking them out and potentially killing them, just because they are standing in front of you. You can certainly push them backwards, or barge them aside with your shoulder.

QuiEstLa · 24/04/2022 12:15

What an interesting thread from the OP.

Aprilx · 24/04/2022 12:15

There is no point being cagey about it if you want meaningful answers. Nobody knows who you are, having the whole story rather than vague clues won’t change that.

LIZS · 24/04/2022 12:16

Hospital, shop, nightclub? Might it have been for your own safety or immediate safety of others?

3luckystars · 24/04/2022 12:19

We’re you in a shop or a nightclub and the security guard held you and was waiting and waiting and you eventually attacked them and hurt them, now they are suing you for injuring them. Is that what happened?

supertedious · 24/04/2022 12:20

You can be detained and held under the MH act if you are deemed a danger to yourself or others. For example of if you are visiting a MH hospital for treatment and are not currently on section or a CTO the hospital could still section you of on arrival if they deem it necessary.

Again more context is needed.

User12398712 · 24/04/2022 12:22

Your very cagey, defensive/aggressive answers remind me of a couple of previous posts I've seen where the OP has been in a mental health crisis.

If your question is hospital or mental health related OP, please seek help. If it is something entirely unrelated, then I apologise unreservedly.

Toottooot · 24/04/2022 12:22

Right so ‘someone’ held you captive for 4-5 hours without any sort of explanation and you need to return to this mysterious place. Doubt it happened like that darling.

worraliberty · 24/04/2022 12:26

This is like pulling teeth with a plastic spoon.

Russell19 · 24/04/2022 12:27

Hope you are ok OP. If you feel like you might be in that situation again is there no way you can avoid this place? Was the person who cornered you known to you?

worraliberty · 24/04/2022 12:28

It started off about '3' hours then went to 4 and then 5 got a chance Confused

It depends on the specific circumstances

SmudgeButt · 24/04/2022 12:31

I'm wondering if the OP was very very drunk/drugged up and someone was preventing them from running out into traffic. If only because there's absolutely no details. And today they plan on getting very very very drunk/drugged up and attempt to run into traffic again at the same location with the same people hanging about.

I would have thought if it was a domestic abuse situation or something happening at work then there would be a bit of background so that we could offer some practical advice.

Yes it does sound like op was detained for her own safety and is looking for permission to assault the person who helped the first time.

me4real · 24/04/2022 12:37

If it's self defence/ you think they will physically harm you.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 24/04/2022 12:38

You could be held in a hospital if you were a risk to yourself or others but they'd need to follow proper procedure for putting a hold on you.

Look, this is an anonymous forum. Just post the full story and you might get proper responses.

whynotwhatknot · 24/04/2022 12:39

If its a security thing yes they can hold you so to speak till the police get there

if is for your own mh wellbeing theyre just trying to help you

either way i dont think you can hit someone

MadeForThis · 24/04/2022 12:42

Were you considered a risk to yourself or someone else?

SpindleInTheWind · 24/04/2022 12:44

I think it's a hospital setting and the OP has been asked/told to come back today. She probably needs to go back, but doesn't want a repeat of being kept there in a manner which feel like detainment.

Bayleaf25 · 24/04/2022 12:46

Agree with @SpindleInTheWind unless the OP offers a different and specific scenario.

Georgeskitchen · 24/04/2022 13:00

Nobody can detain you for 4 or 5 hours except the police:, and even they need a reason. Are you saying they held you in a room with no explanation? That's called false imprisonment and is a crime
