And if you disagree, how do you do it?
How do you satisfy your appetite and what weight loss is reasonable monthly, if three stone overweight

That's very little for a fully grown adult.

Of course you'll get the typical mumsnetters telling you they are full up on 1200 calories and eat 800 a day.

If you feel this is unsustainable up your calories and Include more low impact exercise.

Ponoka7 · 17/04/2022 18:49

Have you had a look at low calorie meal ideas? I'm on 1000 a day at the moment and it is doable. If you have little of high calorie foods, white bread etc, you will be hungry though. I drink black tea so that helps. My meals are protein and veg. I use no carbs rice/pasta and snack on cooked chicken. I exercise and eat back the calories to not go under 1000.
They say 2lb a week is a healthy amount, but it's too slow for me.

ineedsun · 17/04/2022 18:49

Porridge made with water and fruit for breakfast.

Home made veg soup with lentils or ramen or a veggie wrap for lunch.

Veg based meal for tea, jacket potato with salad, veggie bolognaise, veg curry etc

Snacks of fruit.

Party rings are only 25 calories.

MangyInseam · 17/04/2022 18:50

I think few people will manage to do it long term.

Ponoka7 · 17/04/2022 18:50

Also have you worked out your TDEE?

tdeecalculator.net/

JollyWilloughby · 17/04/2022 18:51

I would never eat 1500. It’s far too low for me and my body would adapt and I would have to eat like a bird for the rest of my life.

I eat around 3000 calories a day and I am a size 10-12. I do a lot of weight training and not much cardio.

I eat real food

All meat
Full fat milk, butter, cheese, Greek yogurt
Eggs
Potatoes
Brown rice
Fruit/veg
Oats
Whole grains
Dark chocolate
The odd packet of crisps and chocolate!

I’ve been 4 stone heavier when I was addicted to refined carbs and sugar (and didn’t have much muscle).

I would be starving and miserable on 1500.

Ponoka7 · 17/04/2022 18:52

"I think few people will manage to do it long term."

You don't need to. Once you have lower body fat and are making better choices in food, you can eat more.

WellTidy · 17/04/2022 18:52

My TDEE is 1406 cals. I am trying to lose a stone, so try and come in 200 cals below this and exercise as much as I can push myself to.

If I do lose that stone, my TDEE will be 1350 cals. Not easy to stick to at all!

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 17/04/2022 18:53

This is about what I stick to when I'm trying to lose weight. Little and often is my mantra - however that's how I naturally eat anyway.

I think it's just about enough, but if you like big portions etc it will be much harder. I always allow myself a day "off". I find I do much better that way!

Also nothing is forbidden so I don't cut out foods, I wouldn't last two minutes if I did that as I've 0 willpower!

I lost about 2st post baby doing this and walking alot. I wouldn't go much lower than this though, I couldn't hack it!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/04/2022 18:55

I kickstarted my loss with 800 VLC for a fortnight and now fast until 2pm. Eat a light lunch such as a supermarket sushi pack, some nuts if I'm feeling peckish, then a normal dinner later.

Lost 15kg so far with another 15 to go, since Xmas.

PandoraP · 17/04/2022 18:58

I eat around 1200- 1500 a day. I exercise a lot too. I am short and 50 years old. If I ate 2000 calories a day I would put on weight. I eat a late breakfast and dinner. I don’t eat lunch. I only drink alcohol once a week and only black coffee and water the rest of the week. I don’t feel hungry as my body is used to it and prefer to be slim so for me it’s worth it.

Madre123 · 17/04/2022 18:58

We have cut out carbs, sugar, processed foods etc...we now eat a balanced diet...fruit, veg, salad and meat or fish every day.....it's easy

Undisclosedlocation · 17/04/2022 19:05

Unsustainable long term, which is why the vast majority of diets fail.

Weight loss at a slower rate but while forming habits that you can live with for the rest of your life is the better way imo.

Iamblossom · 17/04/2022 19:06

I can't stick to 1500. 4ish days a week I do around 1800. More on weekend days, usually due to alcohol.

ZeroCaffeine · 17/04/2022 19:06

No not at all. I eat around 1400 normally, 1200 if I’m trying to lose weight and those targets are recommended going by my TDEE. I’d GAIN weight on 1500 a day

bumpytrumpy · 17/04/2022 19:07

I dont know. How people do it. I know my TDEE is about 1800 so to lose I need to be at 1400-1500. It's hard / impossible

Favouritefruits · 17/04/2022 19:09

I’ve eaten 1500cal for 42 weeks and only lost 31lb I’m struggling to loose more weight because I’m so tired to do exercise.

Twizbe · 17/04/2022 19:10

I'm on around 1600 a day but I'm trying to lose weight and using Noom.

The key is to picking foods that have a high water content as they will keep you fuller for longer on fewer calories. So for example the same calorie amount of grapes will keep you fuller for longer than the same amount of raisins.

Soups are great as are lean meats, whole meal bread, Wholemeal pasta and brown rice.

JollyWilloughby · 17/04/2022 19:12

I feel like I’m from another planet sometimes.

I would feel so ill eating 1500. No amount of soups or grapes would fill me up either. You need good fats and protein for satiety! I train with a lot of other slim women who eat way more than you lot.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 17/04/2022 19:14

I've done it before for about 2-3 months and I lost about two stone - that was on top of exercise. I was hungry a lot though!

I did toast or porridge with fruit for breakfast, cup-a-soups with crackers and cheese for lunch, and salad with tuna for dinner. Snacks were fruit and veg and the odd cereal bar or bag of crisps.

I couldn't do it nowadays though as I work a really physical job so I need more protein and fats than 1,500 calories could provide me.

Concestor · 17/04/2022 19:15

I've checked my TDEE but it says I can eat 1800 and I definitely can't! I gain weight if I eat more than 1500 and to lose weight have to go down to 1000-1200. I'm 5ft5 and weigh 145lbs.

Deadringer · 17/04/2022 19:20

I think if you love vegetables it would make it a lot easier. It would help if you don't drink alcohol too I suppose. I would rather be fat than drink just black coffee and water every day, I would miss my lovely milky tea too much.

CooooCoooo · 17/04/2022 19:21

I lost 3st in 3 months eating around 800 calories a day and that was 5 meals a day (two of which were protein shakes). All I ate was salad, fruit, veg and meat/fish/eggs. No sugar or carbs.

While I was on this diet I had a test done which said my resting metabolic rate was 1200 calories per day. I have a very sedentary job and do little exercise so, because I was listening to "women need 2000 calories per day", I was putting on a lot of weight. I'd keep gaining if I ate more than 1200 per day so 1600 seems a lot to me now.

Pistepersistence · 17/04/2022 19:22

I’m small so my Fitbit tells me, without exercise, 1300 in my daily limit.
I tend not to eat breakfast
Pitta, falafel, salad for lunch 400
Banana 100
Curry, rice for dinner 500
Coffees 200
Other snacks (rice cakes, fruit) 300
Do it is doable!
