To ask how many Easter eggs have you eaten today?

Oh god.

I've had two and half Easter eggs, a creme egg and a small bag of chocolate buttons Blush

Awful I know. But I have the awful mentality that I should eat it all now rather than let it derail my healthy eating by eating bits every day. I know this is dysfunctional...I also find it hard to stop once I start.

Can anyone beat me?

I can at least match you op- have had one large Easter egg, plus 3 creme egg sized ones with filling and about 6 mini eggs. Huge chocoholic. All gifts as I don’t tend to buy chocolate for myself as unable to eat it in moderation.

Same as you, I wanted to get rid of it all so I can go back to healthy eating tomorrow. I also realise this is completely dysfunctional but have zero self control when it comes to chocolate Sad

Blueberry40 · 18/04/2022 00:06

Yes I think I would have been a bit sad if I’m honest…Easter is all about chocolate for me and I love the stuff. All the adults in our family buy each other an egg, so I don’t view it as something only there to be enjoyed by the children.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/04/2022 00:09

I'd have been disappointed as we celebrate Easter like we do Xmas, big family meal etc but saying that I'd be perfectly happy with a nicely written Easter card. I have 6 Easter cards on my mantle piece, I have lovely neighbours who always post them through the door so it always feels special.

AllLopsided · 18/04/2022 00:11

Six but they were only mini eggs (white chocolate filled with white ganache, not cheap or nasty at all). DH has eaten the rear end of a Lindt white bunny. My dark one is still intact!

Fairplay to you then.

I genuinely can’t imagine this at all, but maybe I am the odd one.

Would adults then also do an egg hunt too??

CounsellorTroi · 18/04/2022 00:46

Two eggs (big) in the house. I’ve had two chocolates out of one of them. Had a meal with friends this evening and out dog walking in the afternoon. Not really had time to get stuck into them.

No, they’re just brought as gifts when visiting- Easter egg hunts are for the children….but thinking about it, why not for the adults too? All good fun so I may introduce a new tradition- it could get a little competitive between the adults though Grin

sobby49 · 18/04/2022 08:28

A salad and some pine nuts.

Nosetickle · 18/04/2022 08:36

@Quincythequince

I can’t imagine worse gifts the cheap, over-packaged, bad chocolate l.

Then eating it by 100g multiples

Sounds like torture.

My husband asked me (out
Of politeness I should add) ‘do you want an egg’

Met with a firm 🙄 I am not 12 look.

Can I ask, for those who have eaten this, would you have been sad if you weren’t presented with this stuff today?

Wow, just wow. You sound like a barrel of fun. I bought myself an Easter egg thanks, because I like chocolate. My husband bought me one too which was unexpected but much appreciated.
Nosetickle · 18/04/2022 08:42

Is it just me or does Easter egg chocolate somehow taste so much better than a regular bar of chocolate?

I got myself my own Easter egg. I buy one for all the dc and dh. And then I get one for myself.

Some real fun sponges on this thread.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 18/04/2022 08:45

My Easter Day diet:

  • hot cross bun
  • 1 Lindt salted caramel egg and chocolates
  • veggie burger and chips
  • 1 slice Easter cake
  • various random bits of DD's giant bowl of chocolate
  • orange juice
  • coffee
  • Prosecco

All the food groups, right?

hamstersarse · 18/04/2022 08:47

And we wonder why we have an obesity problem when eating chocolate Is considered FUN!

I absolutely love chocolate but a Monzezumas 100% cocoa one is £10. I don't like chocolate with less than 85% cocoa. In comparison I can get a bar of 85% for £1.50 at Lidl.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/04/2022 08:51

Not everyone that enjoys chocolate or considers it fun is obese. Obesity is far more complex than enjoying an Easter egg. Hmm
tirednewmumm · 18/04/2022 08:53

None today because I've been buying and eating them for the last few weeks Grin

Nosetickle · 18/04/2022 08:54

Ahh that’s different then @Svara I am not keen on dark chocolate and if I got that egg it would sit untouched and eventually be melted down to make Rocky road, which would be a total waste. It’s sickly sweet Cadburys all the way for me!

I don’t think the enjoyment of eating chocolate can be blamed for the obesity crisis. I think it’s more of a problem if people are not really enjoying it and just shovelling it in, not really thinking about or savouring it as a rare treat, that would be more worrying.
PurpleDaisies · 18/04/2022 09:10

The obesity epidemic is because of what people are eating all year round, not one day. People don’t say Christmas is why we’ve got an obesity problem even though I’d bet we eat more calories on Christmas Day than Easter Day.

I'm not saying I'd want to go quite that far, but tbh I'm a bit jealous of your constitution! These days I'd feel genuinely ill if I'd had half that. Booze, chocolate and bread - I can't really handle any of them well any more Sad.

My point was that, like @Quincythequince, eating egg after egg of something like Cadburys chocolate would be torture for me too, it doesn't mean you are not 'fun' or don't like chocolate!
Nosetickle · 18/04/2022 09:50

@svara I absolutely agree with you, it’s down to personal taste what cocoa percentage you’re partial to. What I took exception to was the snooty eye rolling emoji followed by “I’m not 12” aimed at people who enjoy a bit of egg shaped cheap milk chocolate at this time of year. Totally unnecessary and goady. Eating that might be tortuous for some but that doesn’t mean you get to sneer at people who happen to enjoy the experience.

TheOrigRights · 18/04/2022 09:57

I had a few tiny eggs, but won't open the 2 boxed ones my sisters got me.
I'm slipping in the recovery of my eating disorder and don't know what to do.
I want to be able to open them and have a little bit now and again.

Not sneering at all, that’s fairly obvious from my later posts too

But cheap chocolate, and buckets of it (hence my reference to 100g multiples) is what I’m referring to and what the thread was intended to be about.

I actually don’t care for chocolate much at all (hence a Creme egg and a few enchanted eggs which contains lots of other ingredients so not pure chocolate) and I didn’t as a child either, and so my comment about not being 12 was with regards to my husband offering to get me one to fit in. I really don’t care if I don’t have one.

We are the most obese nation in Europe and there are very few countries where eating multiple portions of chocolate in one day, would be considered acceptable.

It’s not - don’t normalise it.

And of course nobody got fat just from eating Easter chocolate, but 66% adults are overweight or obese so clearly our relationship with food in this country is one of many aspects of obesity that needs changing.

It no different to the increase in bottomless brunches, endless ice cream desserts, cheap sweets to get cheaper petrol … just why?
