Should Mumsnet have it's own middle class section ?

Reading some of these threads turning nasty it's really apparent that people have such different lives there will never be common ground . Nor does there need to be but the insults are not nice.

A thread posted by someone asking a question , to some a reasonable question being jumped on by ' the poor ' as tone deaf means legitimate conversation has been drowned out .

Should Mumsnet be divided so
' middle classes 'can discuss things the poor don't relate to and likewise ' the poor ' can discuss their issues without ' tone deaf ' comments from people who aren't financially destitute ?

The other thing I don't get is why jump on a thread you don't like why not just scroll on by and join a discussion you do like . Being a hater is never going to resolve anything .

@FlissyPaps

OP, referring to posters who you don’t know as “The Poor” is absolutely vile.

Money has never, and will never buy class.

Suck it up.

Get over yourself , I used that word and middle class because that's how loads of people have been calling it .

?

I don’t get it. Even if you do the ink there is a class system ,many people move between “ classes “ both ways

Things can change for anyone .

FlissyPaps · 16/04/2022 21:31

No. You get over yourself. Who the hell do you think you are to refer to people as “The Poor”.

Vile vile vile.

Well they have been called the poor all over this forum so it's not me it's an mn phrase . Shall we say the financially challenged would that suit your sensibilities better , jeez

Imlovinglife · 16/04/2022 21:35

A friend wondered if she should let her cleaner go as others are making cuts and it might make them look a "bit flash" if they didn't.

Probably something everyone could discuss

It is you though. It’s vile and tone deaf.

“The financially challenged” is no better.

Serious question, who the hell do you think you are?

@Antarcticant

Just divide the boards up by income - what could be simpler? Wink
Hmm....of course there is a small minority of ill-educated proles who somehow manage to earn above their station. What about them? It's a problem isn't it? OP your grammar isn't good. All educated people know you should have written 'its'. Apostrophes belong with plurals. Tsk.
louderthan · 16/04/2022 21:43

But it's not that simple is it?? I am middle class in background and upbringing, all my friends are middle class but I live in one of the most expensive places in the country, my job is public sector and relatively low paid and I am poor as shit. I live month to month, can't really save anything and can no more think of going on holiday abroad as I could of going to the moon. Can't afford to renew my passport anyway so it's a moot point.
Because I'm single with no kids I'm not entitled to benefits. I don't think I would fit in on a middle class thread.

Regularsizedrudy · 16/04/2022 21:43

Ah yes segregation, that’s always worked well in the past 🙄

RussianSpy101 · 16/04/2022 21:44

@Imlovinglife oh gosh how old is your friend? My mum genuinely said this to me yesterday 😂

Mum and I have also had the conversation about how much the gardener will put his rates up due to the petrol costs rising 😂😂😂

What is wrong with using 'poor' or 'the poor' to describe peoples circumstances.

Dickopf · 16/04/2022 21:45

Not convinced by the middle-class idea, but this is a very sensible point. I hide anything to do with Covid and Christmas for this reason.

Given that people with not much money exist, what would you have everyone call them?

If "your" preferred phrase offends someone else on this forum, how do we deal with that? Do we have to create a system whereby you see your preferred word and the other people see theirs?

Or maybe you could stop being such a drama queen?

Dickopf · 16/04/2022 21:47

And I take it this is a joke?

EliyanahM · 16/04/2022 21:47

Lol yes.
I just read a comment,
I don't understand why people don't get their missing teeth fixed. Is it money?

Is it money???

You know how it is, people (with money) like to try to get with the "zeitgeist" of the times - I think you say.

Like 07/08 recession when a load of middle class people spent tons of money on wool and knitting needles (or similar) and probably got no further than 6 stitches

FlissyPaps · 16/04/2022 21:49

It’s condescending.

Just call them “People with not much money”. Or “People on a low income”.

Absolutely no need to refer to people as “The Poor”.
It isn’t me being a drama queen, at all.

Have some decency.
