Made to get up early in b&b

Arrived at B and B yesterday with 2 parking spaces at the back down a narrow side path. Parked temporarily blocking the 2 parked cars in while getting my suitcase out and told I could leave my car there (the on street parking is resident only) as the two cars were not going anywhere until Sunday.

Yesterday evening noticed I too had now been blocked in.

Woken up this morning at 8 by the owner of one of the cars I was blocking in asking me to get up and move my car. I threw some clothes on and went downstairs, however, the owner of the car blocking me in was nowhere to be found. The B and B proprietor even went into his room - which I thought was illegal. Proprietor then said that some guests are totally selfish and that wasn’t his fault! No idea, however, what blocker was told about when cars might want to move.

Person who knocked me up then decided he’d go into town to buy some baby supplies and would be back at 9-20. So I was stuck unable to go back to bed or even in the shower. The other blocker finally answered his phone was some way away going for a beach walk but agreed to return. When the blocker got back the b&b owner didn’t even tell me straight away, it was the owner of the second car I was blocking in (not moving til Sunday …) that came and found me as they wanted to get out. They had been told don’t park on the road you will get a ticket.

It’s like Fawlty Towers I’ve now been given an in street parking ticket - I’d have paid for one if it had been offered on the first place - but am thoroughly grumpy and over-tired.

Surely this rant is not unreasonable.

Sounds a bit rubbish. You can review them accordingly.

I would have gone for a shower and told them so.

HikingforScenery · 16/04/2022 09:56

Yanbu
Why did the owner say that when they didn’t know for certain?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/04/2022 09:59

why couldnt you shower?

sounds thoroughly disorganised though

ginghamstarfish · 16/04/2022 10:01

This should be noted on their website, clearly not acceptable for parking, and I'd leave an appropriate review.

LIZS · 16/04/2022 10:02

If you were woken at 8 but didn't have to move until his return at 9;20 why could you not shower in between ? 8 am is not that early!

TeachesOfPeaches · 16/04/2022 10:03

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Grumpsy · 16/04/2022 10:05

This is the reason I don’t stay at b&bs - it’s like put luck with the hosts. That and I’m slightly antisocial so would rather stay in a nice hotel where you are guaranteed not to be harassed 🙈

Please don't leave a review and damage a small business. Take it up with the owner in a calm manner and you'll probably be compensated and apologised to. Jumping straight to a review when pissed off is one of the shittest things you can do unless a last resort!
Justcallmebebes · 16/04/2022 10:09

Congratulations on your pregnancy

Who's pregnant? I'm lost

Shinyandnew1 · 16/04/2022 10:09

@TeachesOfPeaches

Congratulations on your pregnancy
This really made me laugh Grin
Gazelda · 16/04/2022 10:14

@mnnewbie111 I think a fair review that points out the parking limitations is entirely reasonable. I'd be pissed off to arrive at a pre-booked b&b that I'd researched to find inadequate parking. I rely on reviews to help me decide accom to book.

I agree however that to leave an unfair, critical, or inaccurate review is unreasonable. In this instance I think it'd be reasonable to mention the limitations but also that the host offered a suitable solution.

Yes if it just says parking is limited of course that's fair, but the whole story doesn't need putting on there or any unfair comments about the owner in what could just be a bad day for him

FairyCakeWings · 16/04/2022 10:16

Complain to the hosts and see if there’s anything they will offer in an attempt to make up for having one of your mornings ruined.

I agree that you should leave an honest review, whatever the hosts do. It’s not a shitty thing to do to the hosts as suggested by a PP, it’s providing factual and helpful advice to people who hopefully won’t have their future trips spoiled in the way yours has been.

If the hosts don’t want people to give them bad reviews, then they shouldn’t give their customers bad experiences.

Tobacco · 16/04/2022 10:17

It sounds like an absolute shambles. Not arranging enough proper parking spaces for visitors is rubbish

SpiderinaWingMirror · 16/04/2022 10:19

I would put a review on saying "ask owner for an on street parking pass on arrival. Parking is limited to 2 spaces and you may get blocked in otherwise"

Chely · 16/04/2022 10:20

@TeachesOfPeaches

Congratulations on your pregnancy
🤣🤣
FairyCakeWings · 16/04/2022 10:21

A suitable solution after the morning has already been spoiled isn’t very helpful though. I think it would make me even more annoyed at the hosts if they had a parking permit available to give me but instead told me to block in others and let me get blocked in too. That is not good hosting!

Chely · 16/04/2022 10:21

This sounds like breaks in Blackpool, musical cars every time.

Cocomarine · 16/04/2022 10:22

“Person who knocked me up then decided he’d go into town to buy some baby supplies”

Well that’s ridiculous - he’s got 9 months after knocking you up before you need the nappies etc. Could have waited.

Cocomarine · 16/04/2022 10:24

@TeachesOfPeaches

Congratulations on your pregnancy
My first thought too 🤣 Dying that it happened to be coupled with buying baby supplies 😭
Branleuse · 16/04/2022 10:25

god that sounds really annoying. To be out of pocket, inconvenienced and not allowed a lie in when youve paid out to stay somewhere is pretty shit. I wouldnt write a bad review but I do think the parking situation needs to be warned about. People shouldnt set up their home as a b&b business if there are no parking facilities unless that is clearly stated. I avoid B&Bs anyway as i prefer the anonymity and freedom of hotels

How did you get out if your blocker had gone for a walk?
