Made to get up early in b&b

Arrived at B and B yesterday with 2 parking spaces at the back down a narrow side path. Parked temporarily blocking the 2 parked cars in while getting my suitcase out and told I could leave my car there (the on street parking is resident only) as the two cars were not going anywhere until Sunday.

Yesterday evening noticed I too had now been blocked in.

Woken up this morning at 8 by the owner of one of the cars I was blocking in asking me to get up and move my car. I threw some clothes on and went downstairs, however, the owner of the car blocking me in was nowhere to be found. The B and B proprietor even went into his room - which I thought was illegal. Proprietor then said that some guests are totally selfish and that wasn’t his fault! No idea, however, what blocker was told about when cars might want to move.

Person who knocked me up then decided he’d go into town to buy some baby supplies and would be back at 9-20. So I was stuck unable to go back to bed or even in the shower. The other blocker finally answered his phone was some way away going for a beach walk but agreed to return. When the blocker got back the b&b owner didn’t even tell me straight away, it was the owner of the second car I was blocking in (not moving til Sunday …) that came and found me as they wanted to get out. They had been told don’t park on the road you will get a ticket.

It’s like Fawlty Towers I’ve now been given an in street parking ticket - I’d have paid for one if it had been offered on the first place - but am thoroughly grumpy and over-tired.

Surely this rant is not unreasonable.

Imagine you run a B+B or a hotel or similar. Guest comes and parks, you ask whether they will need to move their car for the next 24-48 hours. No, they say — so you assure the next person arriving that they can safely park behind. And then car one's owner changes his mind and gets heavy with you about being boxed in and insists you go and knock on doors and get people out of bed. You do so, knowing that this is likely to end up with shitty reviews on Trip Advisor.

If you book a cheap B+B with limited parking, this is the kind of thing that can happen, no matter how careful the owner tries to be. If you want proper parking provision on a Bank Holiday weekend, book somewhere that can offer it or pay to leave your car in a car park.

This sounds like breaks in Blackpool, musical cars every time.
Yeah, this. It is probably the same in other seaside resorts. The last time I stayed in Blackpool the hosts wanted us to go and move the car - which was parked where they told us to park it , blocking other guests in - a minute after they served breakfast. No chance. The B&B owners are at fault here, and I’d leave a review explaining why.

I think a fair review is fine if truthful.
I stayed at a b and b in Blackpool where several reviews mentioned a long narrow car park - you either had to be about at 8am for the daily car park shuffle or surrender the keys to reception. So we used a long stay car park where the price per hour went down the longer you stayed so we paid £30 for a weekend in the end.
We did witness the car park shuffle and it was horrendous and well worth the 10 minutes walk to and from the car

Ultimately it is your responsibility if you block someone in. You knew the B&B owner was not the owner of the car you blocked in.

Frustrating, but find a legitimate space and pay the on-street meter cost.

This is the reason I don’t stay at b&bs - it’s like put luck with the hosts. That and I’m slightly antisocial so would rather stay in a nice hotel where you are guaranteed not to be harassed 🙈
This, absolutely. Give me a Premier Inn over this sort of rubbish anytime. Probably works out cheaper too. Hijack, but the last time my parents ever stayed in a B&B they were visiting me, we'd had a lovely evening, fish and chips by the sea, they went back to the B&B where the owners were angry as they'd missed a wedding reception because my parents hadn't told them what time they'd be back. Despite having keys and nobody saying anything about curfews or any other such rubbish.

So the B and B owner has on street parking passes that guests could use to park on the street but chooses to stuff everyone's cars in the off street parking so they are all blocked in?

Why? Is he limited as to how many visitor passes he can get in a year? Is this a location where most people need to drive to or is there a train station locally? I suspect this is a seaside location with not enough accommodation and he just accepts this type of incident will happen weekly but he can always find new guests and doesn't care whether visitors return or not.

Guests that have booked somewhere to stay with parking shouldn’t need to be asked in the first place if they will need to move their car. If the host does ask that of them, then they should expect that the guest is on holiday and might change their mind, so not risk other guests enjoyment of their stay based on the first guests choices.

So yes, you do what needs to be done knowing that you might get bad reviews for it, because that’s the position you chose to put yourself and your unknowing guests in.

You unfortunately booked a B&B with only two parking spaces. Take it up with the owner. Was this information featured online or communicated by any of the B&B staff beforehand?
If not, I would think that it would perfectly fine to write a factual review to warn others.

Very annoying (paying for a disturbed sleep). And the B&B owner made it worse for themselves and you by telling you that it would be okay to block other cars in.

Why couldn’t you have a shower?

So you had blocked someone in? Of course you would need to be woken up! It’s annoying it turned out to be pointless as you couldn’t move it.

I would be fuming - I book based on things like parking - got caught out recently with one through booking.com that had a weird visitor permit scheme using scratch cards that had to be changed every 12 hours - so if arrived back at 6.30pm had to pop out at 6.30am to swap cards - sometimes the nearest space was 5-10 minutes walk

I would be complaining to the proprietor and then leaving the review.

Complain first and see if it can be rectified with a bit of dizzy before leaving a grumpy review though. I feel your pain but bad reviews aren't always necessary. You might get a free breakfast tomorrow.
