Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:
excelledyourself · 16/04/2022 20:36

No, I would not. Luckily we have vast amounts of LFT's available in my workplace, so I will be stocking up and continuing to test.

No, not everyone has that option, but it's clear that some on here wouldn't use it even if they did.

Making life more difficult for others by making mine easier isn't how I want to live my life.

Rhodora · 16/04/2022 20:40

No I didn’t. I ordered click and collect and my parents picked it up and left it on the doorstep for DH and me. They stood at the roadside to make sure we took it in.

THEDEACON · 16/04/2022 20:47

Absolutely not because I'm not a mindless selfish cretin

Lifetheuniverseandeverything · 16/04/2022 20:49

No. Not fair on staff for a start.

Dozybear · 16/04/2022 20:55

Isolation is no longer a “thing” and, as others have said, the supermarket will be full of people who don’t even know they have it. Common sense applies now. If you feel unwell, don’t go out if you can avoid it. If you know you’ve got an infection (a cold, flu, chest infection, conjunctivitis chicken pox etc etc or, of course, COVID), don’t go touching/breathing all over everyone because some of them will be more susceptible to the illness than others and masks, hand sanitisers and distancing are obviously sensible precautions. But don’t feel guilty for doing what you need to do ❤️

TypicaIMe · 16/04/2022 21:03

@jade9390

No need, stop being selfish and get it delivered
What if you can't?
Angrywife · 16/04/2022 21:04

Going to a supermarket if you had no one else to go for you was an acceptable reason to break quarantine when isolation was a legal requirement.

To answer your question, no, I wouldn't but I'm fortunate in that I wouldn't have to. Other people may genuinely have no other option

So people who need to eat and can't afford or get a delivery slot, or who need to top up their gas/electricity meters are 'mindless selfish cretins'?
Punkyfish3000 · 16/04/2022 21:27

Of course not. My husband and I tested positive over the Christmas period and we had online shopping delivered to us. We said in the delivery note that we were self isolating and they left it in a cardboard box outside the front door.

Hmm1234 · 16/04/2022 21:36

Yes but not at an obviously busy time. Most people have that’s how this thing spread like wildfire

Pootle40 · 16/04/2022 21:44

A lot of people on here will clearly face a big reality check over the next few months.....that much is clear.

FreddieMercurysCat · 16/04/2022 21:47

I wouldn’t. I’d shop online or get a Deliveroo if it was only a very few things.

Threetulips · 16/04/2022 21:47

and its because of assholes with that mentality that makes us wary to go out

People don’t have choices, many people don’t get sick pay, they have to go to work regardless or your medical condition, they have children to feed. That’s not selfish it’s necessary and it’s now acceptable to do so.

MrsJBaptiste · 16/04/2022 21:50

No of course not. If you know you have it, stay at home

But those of us who don't test anymore (and there are millions of us) won't know if we do have it. There will be people walking past us every day who have Covid, this is life going forward.

pourmeanotherglass · 16/04/2022 21:51

I didnt. I tested poisitive a couple of weeks ago and did my first ever online shop.

Supergirl1958 · 16/04/2022 21:51

Not being responsible is fairly silly. There are enough convenience things these days!!! There is absolutely no reason to go to the supermarket if Covid +

SparklyLeprechaun · 16/04/2022 21:58

I personally wouldn't because I mostly shop online and hardly ever set foot in a supermarket. But if I'm allowed to go to work with Covid, which involves a half an hour bus journey, and my kids can go to school on a similar bus, there's not much point in staying away from the supermarket.

There is if you can't get a delivery slot, or can't afford the minimum spend, or don't have friends or relatives who can drop shopping off to you, or if you need to top up your gas/electricity, or if you need medication.

I know I keep saying this but nobody seems to be acknowledging the fact that not everyone has a choice in the matter, and that doesn't make them selfish or assholes.

WildCoasts · 16/04/2022 22:36

Absolutely not. You don't know who you might give it to and what the impact on them might be. Not everyone can handle it as well as the average person. It is selfish to knowingly go to the supermarket with Covid, the flu, or other potentially serious illnesses.

Liesovertheocean · 16/04/2022 22:37

I absolutely wouldn’t. Mind you if I had it the same as the first time it wouldn’t really be a choice thing, couldn’t walk or breathe well enough to leave the house. Still have a very elevated heart rate and chest pain six months on. Not ever going to be comfortable exposing others to going through the same pain, couldn’t give a flying floof what the government want.

NoAprilFool · 16/04/2022 22:40

No.
If I couldn’t get a delivery I would ask a friend. I’ve happily got essentials for friends isolating. Alternatively if no friends locally, I’d post on a local FB group.

cherish123 · 16/04/2022 22:40

No.
Obviously if you live alone and cannot get an online order, you don't have a choice.

TyrannosaurusRegina · 16/04/2022 22:44

@R00K

Yes I would and wouldn't bother with a mask either.

All these people claiming their "medical exemptions" for not wearing a mask, just in case it made them feel uncomfortable proved that most people don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.

If you can't beat them, join them and I won't feel guilty about it.

That's awful.
RockyReef · 16/04/2022 22:47

No, I wouldn't dream of being that selfish. But then I am immunocompromised due to cancer treatment so I suppose I have a better understanding of the consequences of people's selfish behaviour with respect to covid than lots of people. Not going to the supermarket is such an easy thing to do to stop other people from catching covid, I can't believe anyone would do anything other than isolate once they've tested positive. What if you went and someone caught it from you and died - you'll never know I suppose, but it wouldn't change the fact that you caused that person's death.

Ottersmith · 16/04/2022 22:48

No way of course not. Scary how many of you have said yes. Very selfish behaviour.
